Posted: Sun Aug 17, 2003 5:42 pm Post subject: Question about Antec Case Fans |
|
|
Hey! I have the Antec ATX Plus 660AMG, and was wondering which fans should do what. A picture of the case can be found here: [http://www.dealsonic.com/anpepl66megr.html]
There are 4 x 80mm fans - 1 rear (installed) - 2 front (optional) - 1 side panel (standard). Which ones should have air blowing in, and which blowing out? Currently, I have the two in front and the side one blowing in, and only one blowing out, is that okay?
Thanks.

Balance the airflow.
Take one of the front intakes out and install it as a rear exhaust.
What you have a at the moment is a positive pressure environment in your case. Seeing that you are not exhausting the warm air, you are more or less circulating warm air around the case.
Installing the front intake as an exhaust should help things out immensely. :) _________________ Owner & Administrator

In a related question.... currently the only fans I have are my HSF and the fan on the PSU. I just ordered two fans from Xoxide and they'll be here tomorrow..
The way my case is set up the only really available fan holes are the two next to my I/O panel. There are two in the front but my Bezel is solid. So putting them there would seem to do nothing.
One in, one out seems sorta dumb to me but I really don't know. Any thoughts? _________________ __________[(Crayola)]>_____________

the add says that cooling is capable of "up to" 4 fans....and in one description says that the side panel fan is optional.
you need to call and ask exactly how many fans are included in the sale.
the power supply included is an AMD approved unit and therefore CAN be included as an exaust fan (but should not be depended on for major ventillation).
those two intake fans are nice on most cases due to the restrictive front bezel.
I have'nt seen if the slits in the front of this case are open or not....but I hope they are!
a few more details of the type of hardware you intend to install might help with fan orientation.
or did I miss another post where this was covered? |

If their is two places for front intakes, chances are they get the air from the bottom of the front bezel and not through it. _________________ Owner & Administrator

So I should drop one in the front and one in the rear? *blinks*
Or would putting'em both in the back work better? Would putting on on the outside working as a intake, and one on the inside working as an exhaust actually work? Wait. couldn't I just reverse the fan so that it's an intake but still on the inside? _________________ __________[(Crayola)]>_____________

And is it bad that when I pop my window off and touch my HDDs they just about blistered my skin? _________________ __________[(Crayola)]>_____________

I usually cook my eegs and toast on my HDDs...it's just good practice to combine activities!
anyway, ....give consideration to taking one of the intakes from the front and cutting a blowhole in the top! I wish more cases came with them by default.
sorry that I read it as you were "getting" the case and not that you already "have" it. |

The guy in the first post is "getting" it... I already have mine. Yeah..... unfortunately I am currently dremel and drill less. Damn RadioShack salary. *L*
But I did figure out that removing the top of my cvase is quite simple with no rivets involved. _________________ __________[(Crayola)]>_____________

*sighs in relief* Okay. That took a LOT more work than it should've but I've now succesfully installed two case fans.
I went and picked them up and then started installing the first one. Then to install the second one I had to move my HDDs. I didn't wanna risk hurting my RAM so I took that out first. Moved my HDDs got the first one up and running turned on the computer.... uhhhhh..... lights turn on, nobody's home. Oh wait. I left the RAM out. DUh.
I put the RAM in the slot, flip on the computer, let my attention wonder for a sec, pinky goes in the CPU fan parts and blood fly.
I would just like to point out that the first word out of my fan was a common expletive. The entire setence was "EXPLETIVE! I just broke my CPU FAN!" nevermind the streaming blood.
Thankfully I live over top of a computer parts store. Ran down, bought a new CPU Fan (those things ain't freakin' cheap) install it. Turn on the rig. LIghts..... no action. DDamnit. Apparently I'm incompetent at installing RAM. Fifteen minutes and a trip to RadioShack to see my coworker John that's solved.
Then I get home and decide since my floppy disk doesn't work I can take that out and install both my hard drives there. SO I did. Then I screwed in the other fan. And now everything runs. Except now when I boot I get a message saying "A: Disk Error, press F1 to continue" *swears* _________________ __________[(Crayola)]>_____________
