6 months ago I upgraded from my bt878 play tv to play tvHD(2388x) because the quality of my captures degraded significantly.. The Play TVHD was pretty damned good .. until the other day and now it is exhibiting the same quality loss as my old card. The capture seems grainy or even like its only capturing half the information it should and there is evidence that something along these lines is happening : Before, when i capture at 352x288 from my VCR to create VCD i would have to crop 6 lines from the bottom of the picture because of tracking issue. but NOW I only have to crop 3 lines.. each line i remove now jumps the equivalent of 2 lines when the capture was good. Does this mean anything to anyone? Also when everything was working well I could capture 2.5 hours of 352x288 huffy yuy2, Now the setting remains the same 352x288 huffy yuy2 but with this poor quality capture and now can capture 5 hours! over double normal.. Do capture cards fail in this manner?

Please help me!

I dont want to have to buy another capture card until i know what is going on..

Sounds like your software is mistakingly setting the resolution lower than it displays.

First reinstall all drivers and software for this product and also check for any updates on the manufacturers website.

I don't think this is a hardware problem, but a software issue.

Thanks for responding so quickly Nathan.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling old and new drivers to no avail.

I still agree it may be software based problem because I have been trying all sorts of software to improve apon what i thought was pretty good quality.

Maybe I should reformat my system and start again? this is a big pain in the ass.:)

It might be a pain in the ass, but it will allow you to have a clean system and you should see a difference.
