You may need to google about the newcastle core . . . i knew at one time but alot has passed since.
Just make sure you get one of the latest chipsets so you can lock the agp/pci bus speeds if you want to overclock. Try for the nforce2 250 northbridge chipset. Seems to be doing ok for now. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

| Actualy tis the Nforce3 250gb chipset and IMO the best mobo is the MSI K8N Neo Platinum for socket 754 or the MSI K8N Neo2 PLatinum for socket 939. |

How many AMD 64 bit mobo's have you used?
I have seen and worked with a few abit ones and they seem to be rock solid but I do know that MSI has a good reputation for being rock solid also. They just don't have the overclockability that Abit does. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

I'm glad someone else asked this question, I just bought the amd athlon 64 3500+, and now I'm stuck with the question of what motherboard to get, it's a socket 939, I was looking at the Asus, cuz that the one I'd always heard about till I saw this thread, but yeah the only ones I've seen are made by Asus, Abit, ECS, Gigabyte, and MSI...what the hell, I dont know which one is best, I dont even know how to begin to tell...any help would be appreciated. _________________ ALL JUNGLISTS! |

Do you plan on overclocking much or just a little?
Make sure you get the nforce3 250gb chipset like FTR said. If you want to overclock alot, get abit. If you want nice stability and a little overclock, go with MSI.
Great manufacturer's! _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

AMD
Athlon 939 (Athlon 64)
- 1. Abit AV8 (fast, for overclockers, silent)
- 2. MSI K8T Neo 2 (G-Bit LAN, silent, not a lot additional features)
- 3. Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939 (fast, two bios chips)
Athlon 754, 940
Not recommended. I heard that AMD hasn't plan any further (or just one more) CPUs for this socket. Therefore, I would choose an Athlon 939 board.
INTEL
Sockel 775
- 1. Asus P5AD2 Premium (fast, silent, a lot of additional features)
- 2. Albatron PX915G Pro (fast, reasonable price, good features)
- 3. MSI 915P Combo (DDR1 and DDR2 support, silent)
Sockel 478
- 1. Aopen AX4SPE Max 2 (fast, a lot of additional features)
- 2. Asus P4C800 Deluxe (really fast, silent, a lot of additional features)
- 3. Asus P4P800 (fast, stable, silent, reasonable price) _________________ Malware: http://www.tweaknews.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3395 | https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/main-nf.htm

Anyone here have a chance to use the DFI LanParty board that supports AMD 64? I've been interested in it. _________________ Love Is Not Enough... |
