Im new to this but i knew i saw you guys here know yer stuff....I am currently building my PC and it's gonna be done next week here is the stuff i have bought already
Asus P4P8X-SE
3.2 GHz Pentium 4 512Kb L2 HT
XFX GeForce 6800 GT
PC-3200 (512X2) 1 Gig mem total
480 powersupply
i guess that's the important stuff fer now....
my problem is that on this motherboard it says i need to overclock to have 800 FSB and these freakin representitives in ASUS wont tell me anything cause "it's against the policy" when i look in my user guide to overclock i know i have to go to advanced and then set overclock tuner to manual...however i also need to tweak (pun intended) the Dram frequency but in the book it says there is only three options....233, 333, and auto what does this mean ? that i cant get my 800 FSB bus to start working help me guys your my only hope!!! |

Welcome to TweakNews!!
You don't need to "Overclock" to get to 800Mhz FSB, that is the stock frequency for that CPU!
(I've never used an Asus board, but there are a lot of folks in here who do)
CPU clock should be at 200 Mhz ( X 4=800 Mhz)
setting the Dram freg. to "Auto", should work fine
Hang around, and Learn some, teach some, and have FUN
Should be a SMOKIN rig! _________________ Yeah....... ok |

really?
Other people told me that the card had to be tuned in order for the CPU to work at 800FSB cause it says everywhere (overclocking mode) so they said it had to me manually put into 200Mhz so that it could go to 800FSB or will it recognise all of my stuff so that it would work at 800FSB ? _________________ In a dark time, the eye begins to see...--- Theodore Roethke

and i know that's the stock frequency for the CPU but it's in the BIOS that needs to be altered cause it has jumperfree overclocking where i would need to change the CPU frequency _________________ In a dark time, the eye begins to see...--- Theodore Roethke

p4p9x?
isnt that an 865p board?
that would mean it would only support 533fsb natively and you'ld have to go through the bios and manually set the FSB to 800(Which, in that case would be viewed as overclocking as the mobo will not be running at specification) |

How could this place be addictive?!?
<---
Good catch, Meobius. Make sure you get a motherboard with the 875 chipset if you are going intel.
If you plan on overclocking and would like to spend a little less, you could also check out an AMD system including the Abit NF7 series mobo and a mobile barton 2500+ with a good cooler.
Don't forget to get a good case and good cooling to protect your investment whichever way you go! _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

yes thank you for catching that meobius. I remember seeing this a while back that on Asus' website that in order to run a 800 mhz fsb you had to overclock the board to run your cpu at rated speeds.

Yeah that's what i thought the only thing is that i know how to manually set it to 800 FSB by making the CPU frequency to 200. and someone else told me that i had to make the Dram Frequency to 400 (i have PC 3200) but in the manual i only see the options to set it to 233/333/auto...i havent seen it yet cause the machine is going to be finished by this friday so who knows what will happen maybe when i set the CPU frequency it will give me the xtra option _________________ In a dark time, the eye begins to see...--- Theodore Roethke

You will have to change it to user defined and set it to that yourself. That is what they meant by overclocking. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

User defined? How do I do that or where do i go in the BIOS to do that? _________________ In a dark time, the eye begins to see...--- Theodore Roethke

try leaving at auto, it will, by nature, try to leave the ram to cpu at a 1:1 ratio
Set cpu frequancy to 200... stir. reboot and enjoy... (i hope) |

there is the 865p and the 865pe
the 865pe is the one we are all familiar with dual channal ddr, 800fsb etc.
The 865p only supports 533 officially but supports 800 through "overclocking" |

If you already have that mobo, you will have to overclock manually. Set the memory speed to auto and start raising the fsb from there. Make sure the vcore is where it is supposed to be too. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |
