yeah that high is fine but if you dont feel comfortable with that then you can set it lower like 65c. But if you have good cooling you wont ever see it reach that high.

I keep mine set around 70 now. When SOMEBODY took it upon themselves to set MY computer to 55... It would shut down when I ran Halo. I am not going to name names.... I agree with Weaz, 70 is just fine.

I installed Cat 4.9 and ran DOOM 3 crash free! 44C was the peak tempurature recorded by ASUSPROBE during the game playing. Still getting some artifacts and tearing on the graphics, but I haven't yet tried to raise the visual quality above medium.

yea... do what they said, the heat saftey thing might be set at 45C so when the system hits that it freezes, thats great it didnt freeze but now watch out for more problems from beta drivers. U wont have ne if ur lucky and move the settings up to see what happens, if it his the 45 and freezes again then u know what u have to do.

lol.....to get off topic for a minute.....lol....sorry chef......i'll name names ...it was ME........the shutdown temps for intel and amd are different......so agree with weaz all you want......lol..=P.....70, IMO, is too high for an intel.....i think even 65 is pushing it.....i would push it up to 60....but god forbid anything goes wrong...i wouldnt want my precious chip sitting at 65-70 degrees for too long....better to be safe than sorry in my mind....=]

but i guess if i thought like weaz i would be testing the survival of tropical fish in my case during load temps....=P

Guess there's two schools of thought here....If it's cooling alright you'll never get past 60C, if not you won't kill an intel chip w/ 70C. That is considering standard temp rise (aka not OC'd)
The older AMD's would come apart if the cooling wasn't good. So it didn't matter as long as your cooling is okay. If it wasn't you were screwed anyway. I understand the modern AMDs are far superior in their cooling, and I don't know what temp you would set them at.
Here's a thought on the P4...set it at 65 and if you get any "stops" in the action, you need to look at your cooling solution ASAP.

I agree with that. =]

Simply, my methods are based on the principal that all chips are different, and i value my equipment too much to risk it........who knows....ive been know to get the sh*t end of the stick in life before....=]

You wouldn't know the Sh** end of the stick if it was smacked across your face and rubbed under your nose a few times for good measure. Free PSU, free Video Card, Free....... COMPUTER. That is a real rough road =P

2Old.. It is my understanding that the newer, modern, AMD chips tend to run at higher temps than intels. So toggleheads thinking (I hate saying stuff like this) is correct. For an intel user maybe the settings for shut down could be lower. Personally I do not think that even 70c will hurt an intel, and it won'get any hotter after shut down so there is really no point. But again it is all up to the user's preference.

Beecrosse.. just out of curiosity, where did you end up keeping the shut off at?

and i meant in life before this.....that doesnt necessarily include computers.......jerk......=P

but still......60 max....IMO

if you are getting visual tearing you should enabling Vsync in the doom 3 control panel and see if that helps.

Just to comment on the software incompatibility stuff, I have DVD decrypter on my system. Is this what your referring too? Ever since I put the graphics settings on medium, it's run great. I'm still going to reinstall, then defrag it.

As for cooling, I think I'm going to do a little sawing this weekend and install some more fans. It's a good excuse to do some case modding to my stock setup too!

If I remember correctly, I posted the word "gigs" when refferring to the processor speed. I never said gigabytes. But if it makes you feel better, you win Sea........ um... Frenchy =]

No, it was useless because I specifically mentioned I install the newest drivers, and the guy spent half the time telling me stuff I'de already done.

I reinstalled the game, but I still see the warning in the console saying it could load some wav file. Since I've been playing on medium though, it's been ok. Thanks for everyone's help.

So many people bitchin ill tell you whats what!

Yo try
lookin for a patch!
installin latest drivers fro GraphicCard
install directx from the NET (latest ver)
sort out the bios (vidmem,buffer,etc)
check for space on you hd (the one windows is installed on most likely C:\) the higher the graphics settin the more space it needs to work(swap, etc).

ps check you system temps if its high. coz its not the processor or graphic card that overheat its the RAM yes it is! gets some ram heat sinks.

if its still crashes its bad programin email the developer of Doom3, the more people that email the quicker a patch is released.

Part time Game DEveloper.

Ok, so some of you will probably call me a noob for not thinking of this sooner. I installed my sound card about three months ago. When I did so I disabled the mobo sound in the bios, but I did not disable the program that I originally used for sound controls. After installing the sound card and it's respective software I didn't think of the other program.

I can now run Doom3 on ultra high with the AA on 16x without any crashing. My fps range from about 15-50 or so, but no crashes at all. I guess it was the software conflicts that were the trouble.

Glad to see you figured it out....and software conflicts happen to n00bs and 0lds alike.

BTW...I was playing along last night in D3 and....artifacts...WTF....I've been playing without problem for days. So I took a screen shot, re-booted, and then played (till I finished, Mars is safe now) with no problems...Moral: Chit happens.
