I have a 9600pro 256mb vc, 1 gig ram, 2.8 P4, and a sound card. I've update to the lastest catalyst driver, and it still crashes. I'm running at high quality 1024 x 768. Anyone else having this problem?

Yes, please explain the crash as detailed as possible.
We will prolly want to know mem volts, vcore, and some temps, too.
And...be patient with us we are playing our new game.

Try lowering your res and detail level!!!!!! that would be the first place to start! I mean for God's sake man arent you demanding a little too much from your hardware? What did the system auto-detect at? And what tweaks (if any) did you do with the config file?

I turned off AA and that seemed to do the trick. If AA is on at all, eventually the game freezes, whichever the last second of sound was playing repeats, and I have to restart my computer. Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work either, nor Alt-tab. I haven't messed with the config file and my video card isn't overclocked (yet anyway). I've been able to run FarCry on it's highest settings without any trouble, even AA and AF at max. I assume this game is a little more demanding.

Should I oc my vid card? or will that just lead to more problems.

Aaahhh. Well turning off AA merely buys me a little more time before the next crash.

I know my temps are fine. To answer the previous question.

Is there anything that, after I have to restart my computer, will tell me why it crashed? The only thing I've seen so far that is similar, was before the game crashed, in the console, is said a sound file couldn't load. I'll have to find that again to see exactly what it said. Could some sound card conflict cause it to freeze up?

Your temps are fine?

What are you temps and we will decide for you.

you can go to administrative tools / event viewer, and click the "Application" tree, it will show you all the events concerning application, including system hangs, right click to get properties, you will see what app caused it, it won't tell you much else, but it's something

I didn't find anything unusual in the event viewer, but in the console I did notice two warnings: couldn't load gui: 'func_static_1317' and couldn't load gui: 'func_static_95'. Are these just textures?

Hmm maybe the install missed some files? Did you try installing the game again?

I would try to reinstall it again.

What kind of motherboard do you have?

Play the game for a good 15-20min and check your temps quickly. Then let us know. Temps may seem fine but they could be way too high.

Also, go into your bios and make sure that the temp protection is set at about 50-55C

I've got an Asus P4P800 Deluxe mobo. I know that they have a problem with the winbond thermal sensor, and that they are about 10-15 C too low.

I just played it for about 10 minutes on high settings with AA at 16x. The cpu temp jumped up ~10 deg C. The motherboard temp also went up about 8 deg C, presumably from my video card. I have a decent cooler master fan for the cpu and my wiring is tidy to help with the air flow. Should I add some heat sinks to my vc?

I'm also going to reinstall and see what happens.

I got the 10-15 from this forum actually. I'll see if I can find it. Several people posted saying that Asus boards were known to have that problem.

I've never actually stuck a seperate thermometer in there to check it. If it's only a couple of degrees off, then my processor and mobo are around 20 deg C (which seems a little low). That's why I have always been suspicious.

if you are taxing your system too hard it will lock up or boot you to desktop.

The is on test map lotsaimps I believe that my cousin was checking out on his system last night and it was running at 4 fps and after a minute or two he was booted to desktop. His system is no slouch 2.6c (stock) DFI LP 875 rev B, 1gig mushkin (2.5-3-3-6@2.8 volts) 6800GT Vantec stealth 520 psu.

This game is showing us that if we demand too much from our computers, the computers wont take it.

yeah show me where that is........i think people may have been reffering to how the bios shows your temps....but i only remember it being 5-7 degrees.......but 20 degrees C......seems a bit low without hardcore cooling.......according to my asus probe, my system doesnt go above 47 and idles around 30............bios tends to read a degree or two higher......

I just installed DOOM3 and have exactly the same problem. The game locks up my PC completely.

Configuration is:

ASUS A8V-Deluxe
AMD64 FX-53
ATI 9700Pro
1GB Corsair PC400 RAM
Dual 74GB Raptors in RAID 0 array
Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platinum

I have tried it with various video settings and lowering the settings simply delays the freeze. Asusprobe and the BIOS say the CPU tempurature is ~45C. I'm running out of things to try.

The Activision web site says shut down all applications and services that are running in the background. I wonder of Norton AV or Norton Firewall are part of the problem?

No, I think the problem is more along the lines of the system overheating with the intense gameplay and shutting down to prevent harm. This has happened to me on occasion but very seldomly. What other intense graphic games have u played and does it happen on them? Is that 45 before or after playing the game?

you try turning off your AV and also if you ahve any cd cloning software Doom3 can give you troubles.
One recommendation is that you defrag before and after your Doom3 install.

Oh yea....Doom 3 Absolutely does not like emulation software loaded on the computer. Some ripping progs may look like emulators to it. Some kind of protection to prevent HDD disk cacheing I believe. I think it's just suppose to stop the game though.

According to ASUSPROBE, the CPU tempurature was 45C the instant the game froze. After the third time, I tried running ASUSPROBE in the background so I could see if the processor was getting hot. It may be the video card is overheating, and I don't have a sensor on it.

I'm going to go without AV and Norton Firewall and try that. I also downloaded the Beta Catalyst 4.9 drivers.

i would stay away from the beta drivers.....IMO........and why dont you set Asusprobe to record your temp history........this way you can watch what it does during your game........

also, check the bios and see what the auto shut off temp is set at.......your chip can take 45 deg......so that should be set around 55 i'd say....=]
