I'm building a new PC. Top of the line everything. Radeon 9800 Pro in the AGP slot. It's going to be a system designed for portability as life demands that I move.
I need an LCD. CRTs are too bulky for my lifestyle.
Problem is, I'm a gamer, a graphic designer, movie enthusiast, writer and web surfer. I do everything.
I'm trying to decide now between the Samsung 191T and the Hitachi CML174SXW 17. One is larger than the other. One has a better respones time than the other. One has a better contrast ratio than the other.
It's a complex maze and for the life of me I can't decide what i want. I don't want to sacrifice any aspect but at the same time know I must.
Samsung Pros:
- Great clariy
- Contrast
- Style/Design
- Viewing space
Cons:
- 25MS response time
- Bad for gaming
Hitachi Pros:
- Great for gaming
- Little more compact
Cons:
- Color problems
- Inferior contrast ratio
- Not the best for design work
I recently went to Best Buy and saw the Samsung in action. I'm enthralled with it. They had it hooked up to an Alienware Area 51 with a Radeon 9800 Pro powering it via the DVI connection.
Rainbow Six 3, War 3 and Freelancer all ran flawlessly. Rainbox six I had 6 teammates behind me, no ghosting. No ghosting in the other games, albeit not at paticularly "intense moments."
I've read every review for this monitor, the first being this site's article, and have read ghosting is very, very bad.
In my heart I know there must be ghosting, these reviewers aren't involved ina massive conspiracy, I just haven't seen it live on the floor.
Can anyone give me any sagely advise on what to do? Listen to my heart and go with the Samsung? Think practically with my brain and go with the jack-of-all-trades Hitachi?
Anything to break the deadlock. Please! :) |

The new 191T is supposed to be leaps and bounds above the older model I reviewed over a year ago.
Hands down, Samsung will be your better buy. _________________ Owner & Administrator

That's interesting to hear. Thank you for the information.
Assuming that, the best bet for me would probably to order it from some place like Newegg.com and hope they ship out one of the more recent models then? |
