It seems that P4 1.8Mhz doesn't need more than 512MB DDR ??

This is just a curious question I have when noticing how much memory used in the window task manager (XP). It looks like the system never used more than 300MB even though the CPU is running at maximum speed. Is that true
If it is true, does that mean you only need 512 MB. More than that is redundant
Another question is which one is better : 2 256MB on2 slots and 1 512MB ???
Thanks for discussing. Iam still learning . Don't laugh if this is a stupid question

Welcome to the community.

These are some great questions and they should be addressed for everyone's benefit.

For calculating your memory, the cpu doesn't really dictate what amount of ram you should use.

For windowsXP, 512megs seems to be the sweet spot for everyday computers users that like to game etc... Anything more than that will not be used seeing unless you work on extremely large graphics in photoshop for example.

If you want to install 512megs of ram, I always suggest using the simplest method with would be using one stick of 512megs unless you are using a dual channel board such as the nforce 2 ultras and the intel canterwood or springdale.

Hope this helps....
