this answer will vary on the cooling method you are using.
it isn't the voltage that kills. the voltage carries the current. the current provides power. power applied generates heat. and heat killz.
the better the cooling solution the more power you can apply.
for a "top of the line" air cooled HSF combo....1.85V is near the tops.
all increased voltages will shorten the life of the components you are using....and by "shorten", I mean that you might only get 3 years of use as opposed to 10 years.  |

so, i have a SLK-800A with a panaflo super high output fan, aswell as five non ball bearing case fans, and I want it to last atleast 5 years. Is there some sort of chart that you know of that tells what the max voltage is for the Barton 2500+

It's not the max voltage on the processor, it's the maximum your motherboard will allow you to raise it to. 1.85 seems to be the max for any overclocking, if you can't get anything with that, then I don't think going any higher will help. _________________ Owner & Administrator

for the most part this is very true...there are a few instances where with the very best of parts and a combination of the best cooling (water cooling or a TEC or both) then you may have slightly higher gains.
this would require a voltage mod to the MOBO for the higher settings.
BUT keep in mind that with the expense of better parts and the cost/risk of the combined MODs...you may very well, be better off buying a faster chip outright and reducing the risks. |

| Cheap CPUS are where it is at! I see the 3.2 P4s are out. Give me a break! Even running extra voltage and killing two to three 2.4Cs is less than one of them. Like a lot of things, accepting the risks is part of overclocking. Um, one question though, just how many watts does a 2500@ put out at 2200MHz? Is it as high as a 3.0 P4? |

Much higher per unit area.
The P4 can dissapate(sp.) more heat faster seeing that the heatspreader is sooo much bigger. _________________ Owner & Administrator
