So hope'n to get down my temp a few more degrees (I've NEVER seen my cpu temp below 39C and it sits idle at about 40-41C) I lapped my intel IHS to a very close to mirror polish-it turned to the copper color, added new AS5 and put it back together but, to my dissapointment no drop in temp, stayed the same. So I decided to add a side case fan blowing air directly onto my HSF/CPU and it turns out my CPU temp raised to 43-44C afther I did this!!!! It is no big deal considering I can switch the side panels out and not use the fan but WOW what a weird occurance. Any ideas what might have caused a rise in temp? I'm thinking about removing the IHS alltogether, anyone tried this yet?

where do you live....?

your ambient room temperature matters greatly.....where as since my comp is in my cement basement, i get pretty good cooling down there, but my old appartment was on the upper floor and i had a bit of a heat problem.......try flipping the fan around and pull the hot air away from your CPU..........although, i dont know how the rest of your case is set up so this may suck just as bad....lol

perhaps a better HSF or another cooling solution......

theres always my GOO.......j/k

Possibly your fan is blowing onto the cooler improperly and slowing the fan rotations.

Also, you don't want the fan directly above the CPU cooler seeing that directly under the fan center there is no air movement.

yes, having a fan there can greatly disrupt the proper airflow you to your cooler. if you really want to try to cool your temps, attempt to make a ducting mod that pulls air from the outside of your case and fits right over the cpu cooler. this seems to work very well.

That or use a slower fan with less air flow.

or unscrew your window and flip it, then your fan will be blowing on the mobo and not distrupting the HS/F air flow, try that and see if it will amke your temps go down.

Yes, it is a much slower fan (and smaller). Yea, I do want to try a duct, I hear good things about them. What about my other questions?- Has anyone tried removing there IHS off there CPU?

I have read of people doing it but the results didnt seem to do worth the risk. You have to ask yourself is it worth 2-3c? (I believe that was the difference)

dude he is using an Abit IC-7 MAX3. They are known to display higher temps than say, Intel or Asus boards. Unfortunately there is not a standard for temp readings on the motherboards that use the same chipsets. So you cant compare the temperatures from one manufacturer to another and sometimes you cant compare from on series (p4c800 to p4p800) to another by the same maker.
