Help! Cd burner question

My moms boyfriend gave me a cd burner for my comp and its the kind that goes right into your computer .. i have it in, but when i go to the program to burn a cd it says it cant find a cd burning device .. i have no1 here to help me with all the wires and everything and i was wondering if some1 could tell me what wires go where ..? i know its a weird question, but i have no idea what im doing.

If you posted the question once, in the wrong forum (i've read it in the other one too) then just leave it and the admin will move it later otherwise if you post it again it creates confusion.

1. Make sure it is a CD burner
2. Make sure it has proper drivers installed.

The only wires you need to have plugged in for it to work is hte IDE cable and the power cable. If htose are in, then there is something else wrong.
