Just to ask a question. Is it possible to make your own kind of fan duct so that somebody like me with one crappy case fan can direct the airflow to somewhere useful, like my aero 7+? If so, what would be the best material to use? Its just a theory at the moment tho!

(another thing, wont start a new thread, with a fan like an aero 7+ which is designed like a jet (TH will know) how can you tell which end is intake, which is exhaust? I know i could find out by putting my hand near it, but there aint much room, and i dont fancy getting my finger caught in a big green fan spinning at 3500Rpm )

Thanks

it is actually very common to use paper to make a ducting mod. roll, cut, and bend the paper to your liking. then you may either coat it with resin or glue (my idea) i have tried this on a few micro atx cases and it has worked rather well in getting the cpu fresh air.

And when using paper, there is no chance of it heating up loads and lighting if it falls out of place and comes in contact with a heatsink or something? Why coat in a resin/glue JayD? Thanks.

if you coat the paper, it will last longer and be much more rigid. you can even add color to elmers brand glue to give it a professional look.

I have the xaserIII case and was thinking of a ducting mod - but wouldn't that really restrict the airflow in the case?

- think about that Josh, before you commit yourself.

well, it depends on your case layout really. i have done ducting mods like this on 3 cases and i have also installed blowholes to help take hot air out. the two together have been able to get temps down 5-10C or so in each case. before they had almost no cooling whatsoever. . . keep that in mind

also, if you want, you can prolly even use spray paint to give it a nicer look

Well, after tuesday i have 12 weeks of, yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! So i could look into making a fan duct, and if it dont work, well, ill burn it!! But i think i will stay away from the blow hole mod, it would be fun, but i just dont have the expertise in metal cutting like Jay does, so i think i would miserably fail attempting that

hehehe, expertise. i just made a circle, drilled a hole, and used a jig saw.

i guess if you don't have the right tools then it may be very difficult.

for the second question, the Aero fan pulls air in from both ends and blows it straight down on the hs, they're cool 'cause they dont have dead spots lika an axial fan (the hub in the center)

Yea, blowers are much more efficient.

The only problem is the size.

Yes it is very tall when you have both the HS and the big sideways fan. So are you saying that a fan like mine has 2 sides to it, 2 intakes, 0 exhausts? I always thought that one side would be in, one out. Thanks anways!

NOTE: this was a joke!

Think of a central Air Conditioning Unit, if you look inside one of them, you will notice similarities with Aero fans, Air is pulled in through both sides of the barrel shaped fan, and blown straight down on the HS
