|
|
Hey fellas, here's a tough one for ya.. My buddy has a dell computer but since those cases don't breathe at all, he baught a new one and asked me to transfer the insides from one to the other... well, after struggling for the better part of half an hour trying to get the mobo OUT OF the case, I went to install it in the new case - Dell mother boards don't have holes to screw them onto the case.... they just connect via little hooks and retainers. How can I get the mobo in the case so it doesn't fall off?? Zip ties??
I told him he'd be better off with a new mobo, but money is sort of an issue.... Any ideas on how to mount this stupid thing?? _________________ DFI Nforce 4 SLI-DR

ohhh.. man another person got delled.... he should of just bent over and said give it to me the easy way, at least i won't have to pay to get F#$(@d over
my advice drill holes in the old dell case... just drill tons of holes...
if your serious about moving it watch the powersupply on some models the connections are inversed, so using anything other than the dell powersupply will cause the board to blow up. |

hahaaha..nice! We just zip-tied the motherboard and it's staying in place pretty good. We completely dissected the DELL case .... we stomped on it til there was nothing left. I'm thinking we should do a complete viking burial for it..... that means we're going to burn it til there's nothing left. Funny thing is another guy i know has a dell and wants me to do the same thing!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! _________________ DFI Nforce 4 SLI-DR

Maybe you should do the other one too.
Sounds like fun stomping and burning Dell stuff. _________________ Abit Max3, Intel2.4@ 3.42, 9800pro 460core/380mem., 2 Raptors raid0 |

hahahah - ya that idea crossed my mind too. In the end I just got those funny little plastic stand-offs that came with the new case, chopped off the part that goes through the the holes in the mobo (just to keep it away from the metal case) and zip-tied it all through some holes i drilled in the case. It actually holds pretty well.... lol.... one dell down, one to go :) _________________ DFI Nforce 4 SLI-DR

the zip ties should work, but i just want to make sure that the mobo will not touch the case other than in the designated areas (screw holes). too often i have seen mobo's go when they ground out against the case. keep the mobo elevated off the case and you should be dandy _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

you might want to find a way to use some duct tape too!! now that would be a sweet mod! who needs a window? the best mod is just a couple rolls of duct tape holding the whole thing together. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

jay, I used some plastic stand-offs unde4r the mobo and cut off the parts that would go through the holes. basically, all that did was raise the mobo off of the case by about 1/2 inch
Weaz, funny you should mention duct tape... I was about to go down that route when I realized that the screws won't work! lol - even that's more than that stupid DELL deserves....
why does dell make everything so frikken proprietary?!!?!? Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper for them just to use the standard equipment instead of making their own?!?! _________________ DFI Nforce 4 SLI-DR

Because they dont want you buying anything else but dell.
This seems to hurt them more than helping them. _________________ Abit Max3, Intel2.4@ 3.42, 9800pro 460core/380mem., 2 Raptors raid0 |

I moved a dell over to a new case last month.. no probs with the mobo holes or the atx power conn. but the damn front panel connections had to be completely reverse-engineered
( I found out about the power supply thing AFTER I was finished, Guess I got lucky). I HATE DELL!!! _________________ Yeah....... ok |

| yup, evopilot had to help my sorry ass with the dell. my front panel is taped on the back of my comp right now. we couldnt figure out how to get the front panel to work with the dell mobo cuz it has its own pin thing. also, the mobo faceplate that came with the new case doesnt fit on the dell mobo, so its sitting there with nothing around it. thats where the wire for the front panel is coming out of. i have to reach back to my comp just to turn it on. its pretty good now tho, i have a light that dances to music and stuff and we ended up taking the dell case parts and using the circle things as frisbees. dancing on dell cases is fun!!!! |

|

Hello,
I got screwed over by Dell I think. I have mounted my board in the new case and the power supply does work the only problem I am having hooking up all of the jumpers for my switches and such. I noticed Dell does it via the usb card in my front of my Dell case with my ribbon and then another ribbon off of that onto my motherboard. Does anyone know how I can hook all of the stuff up? I have thought about hooking them up to my pins on my usb board on my Dell and just putting it somewhere in my Aspire Case hidden but I am not sure what jumpers go where on my pins. All it says on where the little ribbon from the power switch and things hook up from my dell is Ctrl Pnl which means control panel. I have noticed on this board that some people have gotten around this problem it seems can anyone help. I just spent 92 dollars on this case and I do know the power supply works I checked that out. My father also bought one so we need assitance ASAP. Than you I really apperciate it. My email address is fatenabu1@hotmail.com if you have any suggestions. Thanks again.
Thanks,
Dustin |

all you can do in this case is remove the "Front Panel" assembly from the Dell case, and basically "Reverse Engineer" it, cut, and solder each of the wires from the old power switch, to a stiff piece of wire that you can insert into the new case's power switch connector, do this same thing for the power and HDD activity LED's. this will ensure that, if you decide on a new Motherboard, you can still use the connectors from the new case.
good luck trying to get the USB stuff hooked up to the new case, I would just secure these somewhere out of the way inside the new case, and get a 4-Port hub _________________ Yeah....... ok |

CAREFUL WITH THE POWER SUPPLY!
I essentially built a new comp cause my crap a$$ Dell didn't have an AGP slot, which didn't find out until I bought a vid card. That's how I learned to build a computer. I guess I should thank Dell for making me realize to never buy anything from Dell again.
I asked around about what parts I could salvage from the Dell and found that that non-Dell power supplies could fry my mobo. Just make sure all your parts will be compatible and won't cause damage. |

Okay my 2˘....Done this...it sux....
For anybody googling in here to this....Before you get into this real heavy, think to yourself...
Q: Once I take a Dell apart to it's components, what do I have?
A: B-rate OEM parts...bought on the cheap to try to make a buck selling consumer compies. Incompatable...and out of date when it was new.
Q: If I leave it together what can I do with it....
A: Sell it to somebody (who may be inbreed) Cause "Dude, It's a Dell!!!"
Moral....maybe you can get $ out of it...invest that $ into your new compie. _________________ .
