|
|
I’m trying to get a lil bit better performance out of my machine by stopping some background apps that Win XP runs at start up. I am basically taking some of the suggestions from this article at PCStatS
http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1494
My question is what are these apps found in the msconfig/startup and do they need to be running?
1. Telephony (Microsoft Corp)
2. Ghost start service (Symantec) -- I don’t use Ghost Maybe I should
3. Remote Access (Microsoft Corp)
4. Connection Mgr (MS)
5. Print Spooler (MS) I don’t have a printer
6 Themes (MS)
7. Distributed Link tracking Client (MS)
Thanks in advance

Never EVER disable any service through MSconfig.
Always disable your services through services.msc _________________ Owner & Administrator

Why? What is the problem with using msconfig?

MSConfig is more of a 'back-end' kind of setting changer. If you get what I mean.
Services.msc is more user friendly front-end. Plus when you disable something through services.msc the rest of the operating system is normally aware of the change and msconfig doesn't work quite like that. Msconfig is basically the last resort.

It is not the proper way to do it.

Ok how does this sound I go back into msconfig reset to normal startup. then go to services.msc and make the changes there ? No can I only change the Services here or do I have control over the startup as well?
b/c it looks like services only , and much of what i am stoppin is start up stuff
