I have heard some rumor around my little town that if i have a microsoft certificate i can get Longhorn Beta for free from Microsoft. Is this true?

I, uh, "alledgedly" had a go on the leaked 3639 beta (or whatever it was called).

32-bit mind, not 64. Theres a newer leak available, although the last one was unuseable so I wouldn't advise trying either as your primary (or only) OS. The 64-bit one, as it's released by MS to the general public, will probably be a bit more stable.

i don't know about there being a trial version of longhorn, but i know you can try out either the 32bit or 64bit version of 2003 server for free for an indefinate amount of time.

sorry, but some people just don't get it.

on another note, some of trial versions seem to be a little buggy. i got a friend that sells stuff for microsoft and he likes to test some of those trial versions of OS's. some have been pretty buggy to say the least. also, there seem to be a pretty good lack of drivers (especially for windows server 2003)
