Running hot?

i have recently bought a Thermalright SP-94 and a 90mm fan for my P4 3.0. i have a MSI Neo 875 P mother board and i think there might be something malfunctioning with it. the computer will spontaniously restart. i dont know what else to do about the heat, because i think that is the issue that causes the restarts. can anyone help me with this problem. naybe some sort of diognostic tool to run. any ideas would help im at the end of my knowlege. thank alot. by the way i have had the computer for about 6 months now and heating has never been an issue. thanks again.

What is the cpu temp?

If this started after intalling the heatsink make sure its seated proper and that cpu is fully covered with the thermal compound.
This heatsink fits close on some boards make sure its not hitting anything on the sides.

the CPU temp is anywhere from 39 C to 48C...i used the thermal compound that came with the thermalright but i have some AS3. i think i have the right amount on it...and the heat sink isnt touching anything else. thanks for the reply.

Are you overclocking at all?

What are ram timings set to?

yeah i set my mem timming to 2 2 2 5, but i had to do it manualy. i was just playing BF Vietnam and when i came out of the game my CPU temp was at 54C! is that normal...is it ok?...im not overclocking and i have the thermalright SP-94...let me know, thanks alot....

P.S. i just cleaned up the inside of my case to improve airflow and the case temp is 28 to 30C...

that seems a little warm for a p4 processor. carefully touch the heatsink to see if it is hot to the touch.

also, what kind of case and case cooling do you have? what are your case temps?

case temp is 28-30C and idle of the CPU is at 41...the case is some generic antec clone and i have 4 80mm fans running (two intake...two exhaust) i dont know what else to do...the last thing im going to try is to spred some arctic silver 3 on the chip rather than the stuff that the Heatsink came with. any other sugestions would be awsome...thaks again.

The temps seem to be ok. I think that MSI boards read higher like some Abit ones do. But just to be sure, apply some AS3 and see how the temps are then.

Before you apply the AS3 use alcohol and cotton swabs to clean the HSF and processor completely, so that no old heat transfer compound remains. Then use a small amount of AS3 spread over the entire cpu heat spreader in a thin layer. Then install the HSF and with a little pressure use a slight twisting motion back and forth to seat the HSF then fasten it down and check your temps again.

Canterwood chipsets seem to be more compatible with those timings. Trust me, been there, done that.
