|
|
I modified my 32MB GeForce2 MX400 only by placing a 40mm Fan onto the Heatsink. This hopefully will reduce the temps of the GPU enough to allow for enough of an Overclock...and indeed it does.
Well after stress testing my several OC's for my 32MB GeForce2 MX400 card I was finally able to achieve 3000 3DMarks! (Actuall I made it to 3023) with the only modification to the video card: adding a 40mm fan to the heatsink.
Here are the test-system specs:
MSI K7T Turbo (MS-6330)
AMD T-Bird 1.2GHz
384MB PC-133 SDRAM
WinXP Professional Corporate
DetonatorXP Drivers: 28.32 (BTW, these drivers are the latest stable version and they've worked real well with my system and include a noticeable performance increase from the previous versions)
Here are the speeds of each Overclock (including stock speed) as well as the score I received from each (including stock) using Mad Onion's 3DMark 2001SE:
Stock Setting
Core = 175MHz
Memory = 166MHz
2680 3DMarks
Overclocked Settings
Core = 180MHz
Memory = 176MHz
2798 3DMarks
Core = 180MHz
Memory = 186MHz
2893 3DMarks
Core = 180MHz
Memory = 196MHz
2973 3DMarks
Core = 185MHz
Memory = 200MHz
3023 3DMarks
Yeaaa! :)
I'm sure with more time and more tests I could Overclock this card to 190MHz/225MHz and it will still be stable...maybe soon I will. Currently it's been running at 185MHz/200MHz for the last 2 hours without a hitch, during games and just plain websurfing. :) |

nice score bud, you should put some ramsinks on that puppy and see how high you can push the memory. I'd say it should hit 210-220, now that would be crazy!! _________________ Owner & Administrator

| What program do you use to check your 3Dmarks? I've overclocked my Riva TNT 2 to 201/190 Mhz, and would like to see what mine woudl be. |

I stumbled across this while surfing the internet as it seems as though (especially for you with your new fan) THIS would work. Now I know that some people say that the differences aren't that impressive for playing games, however if you look at the graph that is shown they report a 40% faster Quake II (not that anyone plays it anymore) fps gain at 1024x768x32.
I have a PNY Geforce2Mx 200....they don't have any docs on my card. But you might be able to use this. |

Hmmm, that's very interesting. Can't say I've seen that before, I'll definitely take a look at that article in further detail and consider doing that mod (never used the solder tho ).
BTW, Welcome to TweakNews, Nick :) |

hmm no need for a Quadro while playing FPS...so no soldering for me!
I ran the demos and my classic athlon slotA 700 (set to core's 900) with a geforce2 pro - 64MB
put out 3111 3D Marks....settings were all at default just the 1024/768.
ran it twice more on my TBird1.4 with geforce4 Ti4200 - 128MB
again all at defaults..... 7481 3D Marks.
then set the chip to 1.6GHz (12X133FSB) and ran 7831.
1.6 is just about the limit for this chip...but obviously the cards are being held back by the CPU...
I will see what each of the cards can do when I can run the XP2100.
7500 3D Marks reasonable for a 1.4 and the Ti4200? |

lol
turn off the vert-sync, off the AA and enable block transfer and ya get 8205 3D Marks....hmm
might actually try moving a few more of the setting from their default values...... hehe |

Peer,
He is not running a amd XP, he is running a normal Tbird 1.4Ghz @ 1.6.
8205 is a very good score for that cpu, you should be proud. _________________ Owner & Administrator

well..since it was time to reload my neighbor's PC...
I borrowed their CPU and RAM
An XP1800 and PC2700 generic DDR (Samsung K4H560838C-TCB3)
I was hoping to see that the 256MB of ECC 2100DDR was holding me back...
But with the xp1800 and their RAM, it only ran an 8416 3DMarks
with the xp1800 (OCed to 1.61GHz) and their RAM, it went to 8509 3DMarks (not quite the improvement I was looking for)
my Tbird @ 1.6 with the 2700 DDR still kept me in the lower 8K range. ...
given that I didn't do any research on the board and I didn't "optimize" many of the setting other than the cpu multiplier..... I am looking forward to some quality RAM and the new CPU!
She may not be the fastest rig in town...but I can rely on her 100% |
