Well if any of you tweakers live here in wonderful So Cal, you've noticed that lately its been a bit toasty "weather" wise lately. and to say the least my comp was OVERHEATING because of it... no matter how i set the fans or anything the room temp was just too high... so i devised a little solution that dropped my temps down from the restarting highs of 68 and 70 load temps ... down to a more managable 37 idle and at the most a 54* load temp.

I figured that my PSU was putting out too much heat than the slow fans could remove so i needed to move it. it wouldnt fit anywhere else in the case so i mounted it right to the top panel... i know it sounds crude and WHY? (comes to mind) but truly the answers are coming...
i had to say the least about 5 spare psu's lying around which i then used to create a cooling box that would exhaust the hotter air that rises to the top of the case and also directly remove the heated air from above the CPU. via a 80mm fan and a 120mm fan... (pics later) the back panel of the PSU box was a vented one so the air has a HUGE vent as it were to flow right out of the case with... and with the same 2 80mm intakes and other 2 exhaust this additional upper chassis cooling technique is making my temps drop down to suitable and manageable temps. ill add pics as soon as i can so you guys can see what im talking about

"wonderfull" eh? psh, that is such a lie, its horrible! i hate so cali more than i hate my compaq comp. which means its pretty bad. but the past few days has been fantastic! it rained so much on... thursday. it was awesome! i loved it.. sign.. if only it lasted a bit longer..

i don't have a problem with my computer temp. my compaq is so bad that it only needs the processor fan. thats it.. -.-'

yes i agree on the so cal part... its only nice when it rains... or the day right after a big bad ass thundershower... the mod works... but my rig is OC'd pretty high and it really needed the cooling... i reached my limit i think as ive heard that the 2.8s' max oc is like 4.0ghz
and im at 3.8

well turns out this is a really useful for a time but still failed and i found out why... Nathan was right... the airflow just wasnt there... i have 2 intakes and 3 exhaust fans... but the 2 intakes werent moving any air... i had the side case panel taken off and started the comp put my hand in the air flow and low and behold NO FLOW. i then proceded to remove the front cover ... which covers the fans... and OMG did the air flow... so i found that my front cover doesnt have ANY means for ventilation... so i had to modify it in a way to make a vent or opening for incoming air to get to the fans... and after that... i proceded to put my PSU back into its original spot in the case... and low and behold my friends... instant difference in temps... under load my cpu doesnt go anywhere about 50* C. with my OC that kicks me in the BUtt.... ill post pics of my mod later... but man oh man... what a difference

Ummmm, I seriously doubt the PSU was contributing to case temperatures.

no the PSU wasnt ... but i needed additional airflow... i just didnt knowwhere...
but to increase the functionality of the space above the CPU and knowing that heat rises i thought it best to try out...

Honestly, just install a blowhole in the top between the power supply and the cd drives.

Looks cool and performs well.

trust me theres barely any space between the PSU and cd drives... maybe 2 40mm fans but thats about it... this little kick did the trick just fine... my temps are never more than 50 now even under 5 hrs of Deus Ex... a very killer game... graphics and speed are a must... it handles it no prob... the paint is just some ford Black touch up paint... the wrinkling of it is because the paint is too corosive for the plastic and started to melt it... he he... cool effect i think...
