Okay, my bro 'Aztec' had his b-day today and he's planning on building his own computer. He's fine with me giving him his present a little late, and I'm plan to get him the Abit IC7-MAX3. Here are his future system specs:

Radeon 9800XT (He will not go lower than this, though he is willing to wait to see nVidia & ATI's newest cards... would it be better to wait?)
Abit IC7-MAX3
Pentium 4 3.2
Dual DDR 512MB PC3200
That's just the core of it.

Is this a nice setup? Please post comments, any tips, it'll be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
-Polar and Aztec

Sounds to be a kick ass start (kid has taste in video cards). I'm going to regurgitate the logic which has dripped from this message board on the subject of waiting for the new graphics cards: YES, great idea to wait. If you don't decide to get any of the new cards to be released, at least you'll benefit from the inevitable price drops on the OTHER cards, including the 9800XT and other stellar performers.

Throw in some SATA raid and a big damn monitor and get gamin'!

if he is overclocking he should prolly get higher than just ddr400, maybe some ddr466(pc3700). i dont have a p4 but im sure people are gonna say just get a 2.4c or 2.6c or 3.0c because of the easy over clok to 3.2ghz.

waiting for the next gen graphics cards is a good idea but only if you are willing to wait. a sata hdd and better ram would be recommended also. it will help get the most out of the pc for a small increase in price.

nvidia said they are releasing their cards in 40+ days, so its not too long of a wait, but if he wants the computer soon i guess the 9800XT, otherwise the new gen of cards should really kiss @$$

Thanks for the comments guys, he's decided he's gonna wait for the newer cards. He will also take into consideration about the RAM and he's got tubloads of $$$ for this comp so he's gonna stick with that P4 3.2!

Also gonna listen to the SATA and we already have some nice 21" flat screen monitors!

Also, consider faster memory than just PC3200.

Don't wait fir the next generation of cards, get a 9800pro or XT and enjoy your computer.

The high prices for the new cards will not be worth the purchase right now.
