Pinnacle Studio 8.5, videoediting

does anyone knows which codec (converter) should i use to compress DV - AVI files (ca. 220 MB/minute) in smaller files (ca.20 MB/min) with best possible quality.I used DIVX5.03, MPEG2, Cinepak Codec by Radius,Intel video 5.10,Microcrap MPEG4. The DIVX 5.0.3 has the best results but the quality is not so quite good.

AMD 1800 XP
MSI KT3ULTRA ARU
WIN XP Pro SP1
512 MB DDR PC333
1 HDD IBM 80 GB 7200 rpm (master)
1 HDD WD 80 GB 7200 rpm (slave)
using Pinnacle Studio 8.5 to convert and edit videos.
