|
|
I am able to play HL fine and have great sound as long as I dont go online. The moment I start an Internet game I have completely no sound. I used to play it fine online up until I loaded some some MS updates ( at least I think thats what did it).
Short of completely reinstalling the OS doese anyone know how to correct this problem.
I have uninstall and reinstall HL servral time already. I even reinstall the lastest version of DirectX 9b, still nothing.

I dont really think that the specs have anything to do with it, but here is what I remember anyway. Dell Optiplex, P4, 512+Ram, 180G HD and Win 2K.
Like I mention, I have been able to play the game fine until the MS Update. which leads me to beleive it is a software issue.
I have been trying to remove the MS patch updates but cant find them.
Help. |

try reinstalling your soundcard drivers.
Did this happen when you updated your drivers through MSupdate? _________________ Owner & Administrator

yep "ESPECIALLY" if you have a C-Media powered sounds card right now there is a driver update for it... my system kept crashing because of a faulty driver... turns out it was just the soundcard... MS had the update and now my comp is back to normal _________________ Remember When Sex was safer than racing???

Where is the souncard installed?
Is it onboard or a separate card?
What PCI slot is it in? _________________ Owner & Administrator

Sound card is on the board.
I have done all the following
Run Direct X and enable full sound acceleration:
1. Click Start, Run.
2. Type "dxdiag" (no quotes) and click Ok.
3. Click on Sound tab.
4. Move Hardware Sound Acceleration Level slider all the way to the right.
5. Click Test Direct Sound and make sure tests complete successfully.
6. Click Exit to quit Dxdiag.
7. Launch the game
Set preferred sound device:
1. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel.
2. Open Multimedia applet (may also be called Sound & Multimedia).
3. Select Audio tab.
4. Verify that your sound card is selected in Preferred Device box. Also, see what other choices
are available. Try other choices. Main sound card usually works best, though.
5. At the bottom, try checking Use Only Preferred Device checkbox. Try the program with this box
both checked and unchecked.
6. Click Ok.
7. Try the program.
Adjust game audio settings:
- from main menu, select Config, Audio
- uncheck all checkboxes there,
- click Done, Done, Quit
- relaunch the game
Set all sound to be played as in WAV format:
1. Right-click on the shortcut icon you use to launch the game
2. Select Properties
3. In Target box, move cursor to the end of current line, type space and then add:
-wavonly
4. Click Ok
5. Play the game
Lower sound acceleration in Windows:
- select Start, Settings, Control Panel, Multimedia
- select Audio tab (selected by default)
- under Playback, click Advanced Properties
- select Performance tab
- move Hardware Acceleration slider one step to the left
- select Ok, Ok again
- restart your computer
- try the game again
Nothing works./ Hellllllllllllllppppppppppppppppp I Need my HL,,, l!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
