Hey Everyone,
How's it going?

Usually, when I right click on any file in my computer (I'm running Windows XP), it gives me a pretty long menu of options, such as "Browse with Paint Shop Pro, Add To Winamp's Bookmark List," and "Compress And Email" (with WinRAR). What part of my REGEDIT do I go to to take these options out so that I can have a shorter Right-Click Files Menu (but without harming my computer at all).

Thanks a lot! =)

Welcome to TweakNews.net, mastavic!!!

Well - with a little work I found the entries in the registry you need to edit in order to do what you want. A lot of programs you install will add themselves to the right-click menu of your files and/or folders. And most times, you have no choice in the matter and, as a result, your right-click menu can get very long with added items you don't even use.

Deleting the following program entries in the registry entry below will remove entries when you right-click on files only, to remove entries when you right-click on folders and/or drives look further below in this post.

1) Open up the registry -> navigate here HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers (note the asterisk "*")

2) Click the the + sign next to the ContextMenuHandlers key, to expand it.
Now you will see some of the programs that have added items to your right-click menu. Simply delete the program keys you don't want.

To remove entries from right-click menu on folders and/or drives navigate here HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers -or-
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

and follow the same procedure as you did with files.

If you don't want to delete the entries -> simply double click the default value for the program on the right hand pane and rename the clsid value by placing a period or dash in front of it.

This is a perfect tweak to add to the Tweaks & Tips forum, I'll do this shortly -> check out that forum for more cool tips/tweaks!

Hey [TN] jadison,
Thanks a lot for the help.

However, when I got to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers, there was no listing of items or anything other than the "default" file.

Hmm, any chance you can take a screenshot of what you have their? (Press Alt-Print Screen, then go into Paint->Edit->Paste)

I don't know of another instance where you can remove entries in that right-click menu.

You can delete those right-click options by removing the unwanted entries in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\shell\

Hi folks,

I have a similar question, regarding Winamp 3.

I seem to have no enqueue option from folder view in Windows XP. To explain, I have a pop up menu from my toolbar at the bottom allowing me to view my HDD and folders etc. From there I used to hover a folder, right click and enqueue. This seems to have been removed in Winamp 3, and idea of how to manually add it?

Thanks all :)

Tweak UI will do all this for you, without the need for manually editing the registry. This program is part of Microsoft's power toys.

About that winamp 3 problem, I would also like to know how to do that now and I haven't been able to figure it out for a while.

Since I couldn't figure out how to do it that way, I open Winamp and depending what you wanted to enqueue, delete all the files in it. Then you open the folder that holds the folders of mp3's and go to edit and select all. You just then drag and drop all the folders in winamp and they should be enqueued in alphabetical order or however you have it specified in windows.
Instead of selecting them using edit in the toolbar, you can also select them manually.
