I am poking around to see if anyone has seen / heard of an AMD-XP board that supports DDR2...serial raid...built in LAN....etc.
I am looking for the best home for a new XP chip I have and was just wondering how far off these boards are from production....
anyone?
YOUR favorite? and why? |

Well, from a trusted source there currently aren't any AMD-based motherboards w/DDR2 support. I talked to Nathan and he said VIA should be coming out w/an AMD board that supports DDR2 soon.
I did some research tho and found a couple good boards w/some of the specs you posted (including AGP 8x):
- MSI KT4 Ultra-SR KT400 8X AGP DDR
- ASUS A7V8X
I'll keep you posted on any updates I receive. |

OK now...since there just isn't going to be time to wait....asuming that it's going to be another 3 months or so b4 DDR2 is supported.
The NForce2 boards have been out for a bit....a better board for the OC and gamer in me?
I have had this damn XP2100 for 3 months now and no board to call it's home.
I have no need for the integrated graphics (unless my Ti4200 dies) but I would like to see what the 'soundstorm' (sp?) is like....a seperate audio processor? not taking hits on my CPU?

hmmmm........I want to place some sort of an order in the next 12 hours.....(I have to order a hard drive for a client to be here by the weekend....save some shipping fees.

Get the Asus nforce board.
Even if you dont use the onboard video, this board overclocks like a mad man.
Also, Asus is a great name in mainboards. _________________ Owner & Administrator

Niiiice. That'll definitely be a sweet setup!
BTW, if you're into modding and customizing your own stuff - then go for building your own H2O-cooling unit using parts you can find from hardware & automotive places. If you need any good references/how-to's on how to build a H2O-cooling unit, ask us and we'll provide ya w/some.
Here is a review we wrote over a H2O product - Next-Cool WaterCUBE GT3
Otherwise - I suggest you buy a pre-built/modded H2O rig such as the ones offered by Koolance here. If you just want to buy the H2O unit and not the whole pc case then they have their EXOS unit that you should have a look at.
If you can afford it - get a H2O block for your chipset and/or your graphx card (you'll see some wicked performance w/H2O ur graphx card)
I WANT TO SEE SOME PICS! |
