I might be purchasing an Antec Sonata case. My only question is regarding the 120mm fan behind the HDDs'. Will it cool off my WD Raptor 10k RPM drive? It is suppose to suck air through the HDDs' from the front of the case. Do any of you guys know if this airflow system is efficent enough to keep my HDD(s) cool?

Later,
Eli

It is a different way of doing things I know but all in all it works. I draws air directly over the HDD's.
I bought this case for my brother and his computer is stable as a rock and alot cooler as well (not to mention quieter)

As long as there is moving air, it will be fine.

that 120mm fan will pull cool air in from the outside of the case in the front.

the 120 mm fan at the rear of the case pulls enough air out of the case that you already have cool air coming in the front. With the second fan it just helps that much more. If you are concerned about it install a sunon 120 x 38 mm fan at the rear (105 cfm) that should be enough airflow especially with the other 120 mm at the front location.

the 120 would do a good job keeping that wd in good condition. if you ever want to keep it even cooler, just slap a hdd cooler on it.

yeah if you use a high cfm fan take precautions for small furry creatures and children. Their remnants are hard to remove from electronics.

not to mention they can get to smelling really bad if you don't realize they have gotten 'themselves' caught in there.

well, Isopropyl alcohol always seems to do a good job cleaning up my "accidents". lol.

About a week after putting my pc together I started to do some overclocking. I wanted uber cooling, so I baught a Vantec Tornado for my SLK-800A heatsink (mistake; way to loud). I have an Antec Performance Plus 1080AMG (big case). Since I was overclocking, I was clearing the cmos a lot. I had my computer right next to me on the ground with the door open. I have a little mexican dog called a Chuwawa...and it likes to do strange things; After a series of vicious barks she ran right into my case headon, like the case was some sort of predetor. she shreaked, and ran out. for about a minute later, she wined. i thought "s*** my new computer was ruined!" I turned off imediately. appearently her big ears got in the way of my tornado. It buzzed about 1/10" off of her ear. My Mom freaked out and encouraged me to get rid of that fan. Apperantly, there was no "flesh" spilled in my case. I looked all over in the case, and couldn't find any. it probably shot out. Now I know why they invented a case door.

Anyways, back on point. So I am confident that I wont need anymore cooling besides that 120mm fan. Although it would work better sucking air from the front and pushing it over the HDDs', I think it will be enough.

Later,
Eli

OMG, LMFAO!

Don't get rid of the fan, get rid of the stupid dog.

The computer didn't attack it.

funny, funny.
you don't have to get rid of the fan. run to radioshack, or any other electronics store for that matter, and get a potentimeter. it will give u the ability to control the voltage going to the fan (the speed its running at) they are pretty inexpensive and give u a great adjustable fan.

p.s. you will have to splice it into the line that supplies power to the fan. (usually red or middle wire for 3 pin connectors but do research)
