Nope, completely whipe any drive you are going to put Windows on and do a fresh install.
Don't do it half-assed or your comp will work like crap. _________________ Owner & Administrator

| um, no. I was asking if I could just detect Windows from an old HD and install it on a NEW hard drive. So it would be a new install.. right?? |

that should work as long as you install it on the right partition/disk.
or . . .
do you have the windowsME setup disc? if so i heard than you can boot from the XP upgrade disc and when it asks for an older version, just put the winME disc in. after that you should be able to put the XP disc in and get a full install.
this is just heresay however but i'm pretty sure it does work. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ

Maybe I can make my question a little clearer.
I am going to build a computer, a new computer. And I don't want to pay for a new OS. So I was asking if I could take my current HD and use it in the new computer, so I can have XP Home Upgrade CD detect Windows ME and install XP into a new second HD??
Also, another question. I have a Compaq at the moment (bleh) and it came with Windows ME, I did a New Installation of Windows XP Home Upgrade. Is it possible to do a factory restore after a New Installation, so that way it will have WInsows ME again?
Also I forgot to mention that I don't have the Windows ME Installation Disc. If I did.. I don't think I would be here.. All my Compaq 5000 came with where "Recovery CD" and another CD which isn't usefull "Compaq Learning.." something.. |

Im not sure if that would work because if its an Upgrade version of XP, i'd assume it would write itself over ME, but then again im not sure, it wouldnt hurt to give it a try.
As for the factory reinstall, you'd need the drivers cd that came with the compaq that usually has everything that the computer had on it when you bought it.
-recovery cd should do a factory reinstallation, but it will reinstall whatever os came with the system. |

| Also, when I did a new Installation of Windows XP. I think it asked me where I wanted to install it too. My memory isn't the greatest.. i wish it was in this case.. |
