anyone else having some issues with XP and some of the older GeForce cards?
This one is starting to get on my nerves...
Abit KA7 (SlotA)
Fresh XP PRO install
Micron 256 PC133
I have done everything I can think of except for setting the bios to failsafe defaults.
Latest driver for the card, mobo, and chipset...
It worked just fine in another machine with XP a few months ago.
HHMMmmmmm........
Could be a PS issue....nothing is OCed at the moment.... heat is not possible. Good thing about working for Telecom...you can get the best (and loudest) damn fans out there.... |

I have an MSI K7T Turbo (MS-6330), 384MB PC133, and a 32MB GeForce2 MX400 along with WinXP Pro Corporate and I've noticed no problems.
I've found 30.82 Detonator Drivers to work the best for me. I have all of the latest WinXP updates except for SP1 (I'm avoiding that one for now...).
Does your copy of WinXP Pro have all the latest updates?
What exactly is your problem with the graphx card, and which model do you have? |

I am able to go with or without the SP1...some of my machines have it and some do not.
I might just load 98SE back into it.
This ATHY700 has a 900 core and just ran all day long @950 with 98 in there...but it is set to 700 currently.
I do have many copies of the detonators and have even been using the Leadtek drivers as well....
Might give the detonator scrubber a try.

I do belive so...I seem to recall even a driver patch for a similar video issue being suggested by the update manager. something about a "black screen" when the games initialize.

In XP it looks fine becuase I am guessing it is using default VGA drivers. But there is no adjust ment for refresh rate.....no video card info available...and the monitor is defalt with no ability to alter.
In UT03 it tells me to enable Direct3D in DXDIAG....which to me appears already done.

Honestly, it's my oldest GeForce card and I may try putting in the MSITi4200/128 to see if I get the same issue.

well then.......as it turns out, when I replaced the stock HSF on the card with a Crystal Orb and some RAM sinks...
I wanted to keep using the thermal probe built into the chipset...
By doing this, I was keeping hte Orb tweaked to one side and not making full contact with the GPU. Apparently, the GPU can get hot enough to malfunction even by the time the OS loads. As I removed the Orb (for salvage from my thought to be trashed card) I noticed that the Arctic Silver paste still had tiny grooves in it from when applied...and did not look like it had been mashed as most pastes will once contact is made. so I wiped off the paste and place the orb back on the GPU to check for one of the two to be warped...niether was.
As I said before...the Orb was rocking from side to side over the thermal probe.
Probe is out....used Arctic Silver Adhesive this time...HSF is flush...and all is better now....I can get through to the Direct3D tests in DX9.0
yipppie! |
