Hi all,

This is an old question : Are Spybot or Ad aware really good as those reviews made on cnet claimed? I was curious to read a few bad feedbacks for spybot this afternoon and found this

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THINKING TWICE ABOUT USING THIS PROGRAM NO MATTER WHAT YOU HAVE HEARD. LOOK AT ALL OF THE POSITIVE COMMENTS' TIMES AND DATES AND YOU WILL SEE THAT EVERY DAY, WITHOUT FAIL, THOSE COMMENTS ARE POSTED BETWEEN :54-:56 OF THE HOUR. THAT ALONE SHOULD RAISE SOME VERY SERIOUS RED FLAGS. IT TELLS ME THAT ALL OF THAT POSITIVE FEEDBACK IS TOTAL B.S. TRUST YOUR OWN INSTINCTS, I DON'T LIKE THE LOOKS OF IT MYSELF

Couriously enough, I looked at the time those reviews posted and saw the what this quote said. But the funny thing is even with the bad reviews, they are posted at the same time too. One reason can explain this is cnet. They edits first and posts the reviews at a certain time.

I still wonder why there are inconsistent reviews about these softwares. I hope somebody really can test how good those software are.

Adaware is the best out there and can be trusted.

I have used it exclusively and it is great and is completely void of any spyware.

Spybot is another story, they are potentially going to get sued.

Thx, Nathan. I think I agree 99.999% with you at least with the Spybot. I tried both before but can not tell how they perform because I don't know what they are doing in the background. But one thing I can tell is Spybot caused problem for my system. I reconized that immediately after downloading one of their regular updates. After I uninstall it (fortunately it seems that there is no problem for uninstalling :) ), my system was back to normal. Anyway, that was an old story. I am thinking about using one of them again on my new system. One thing about Adaware is it doesn't provide anymore updates??? I don't know if they provide the updates again ??

Some related questions:

What actually spywares can do?

Is there someone experience SpywareBlaster? Please give your opinion.

Stop tested every spyware program out there.

Use Ad-aware and that is all you need.

Spyware allows people to track what you do on the net.

Nathan,
Whats the story with SPYBOT S&D?? I havent heard anything bad about them. I have been using this program and it is kind of disconcerting to hear that they might be sued. Any knowledge on this would be great. Thanks

Spybot's program actually deposits spyware on your computer.

Uninstall it immediately, big security risk.

Download Adaware Standard here:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Once installed, open the program and unpate it via the globe with the magnifying glass in the top right hand corner area.

Then start the scan and clean your system.

Hmmmm from all the seaching I did the only problem I found was a worm that was named spybot.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.spybot.worm.html

This is the only place that I have heard anything negative about Spybot Search and Destroy. I know that Spybot backs up some stuff that Adaware and other programs pick-up again. Spybot does this as well if one of the other programs makes a back-up

Spybot worm is the problem with the program.

They are currently under investigation.

so Spybot search and destroy has nothing to do with the worm, correct? in the link I provided earlier it says that the worm is spread thru kazaa and mIRC rather than the program of Spybot.

or am I missing something?
