Hey!
How's it going?

I was just wondering if there is any way I could screenshot a video that is playing on my computer. There is a clip that I just want a screenshot of while it is playing in Windows Media Player, but I don't know a way (if there even is one) to screenshot it into a still image. I'm running Windows XP Professional Version, if that helps.

Thanks!

press Prt Scr on ur keyboard, it stands for Print Screen, it basically copies watever you see on your monitor. After that, open it in either your image editor, or MS Paint, then Paste it and it will show up, just save it to a jpg or watever format you want it in.

Kind Regards;
Cyrus

Hey Cyrus,
How's it going?

Thanks for the attempt to help me, but if it were that easy, I would not have had to ask =P When I screenshot (with the Print Screen key) a video that is playing in Windows Media Player and try to paste it into Paint or any other graphics program I have, the video plays in the Paint file as well. The easiest way for me to explain this is if I don't - instead, you can try it yourself =P

Please help me if you can,

I'm talking about files (such as mpeg files) in general. Try screenshotting any mpeg video file while it is playing in Windows Media Player and pasting it onto Paint and see what happens.

I have been able to capture video stills by using InterVideo's WinDVD Platinum, but if anyone finds an easier way to do so, please let me know.

See.... the reaodn print screen doesn't work is WMP doesn't render it on what we consider the screen.l It makes it's own mini screen and plays it there. That's why on most systems you try and Prnt Scn something and you get a black square.

Actually there is a way to screenshot in wmp and it actually pretty simple. All you have to do is go into your options and find your video acclerator performance, slide the little bar down to none, hit apply/ok or whatever. stop your video and replay it, then hit prnt srn and it'll work for you

EDIT: Then simply go into paint or any other image program you may have and go to edit/paste. The image of the screenshot you took should be up there.

there is actually a way to get screenshots from WMP, what you have to do is load up the old style wmp that came with like windows 95, its on xp too. you have to go into your windows media player folder and open the "mplayer2" file, that will load the oldschool one, play it in there, and use the print screen button, this works 90% of the time.

when you hit the print screen button, it saves the picture to your clipboard, just go into like an image viewer, and paste it in.

:/ No one bothered to read my way on how to take a screen shot. Oh well -.-. But incase you didnt.

1)Open up windows media player 8 or 9 or whatever.
2)Navigate to tools and then options
3)Open up the performance tab.
4)Slide the video acceleration down to NONE
5)Hit Apply and Ok
6)Replay your video and press Print Scrn on the picture you want to capture
7)Close down your video and open up paint or any other image editing software.
8)Naviagte to edit then paste. And wala theres your picture.

Taking the performance slider down DOES take away performance and picture quality so once your done you may wanna slide it back up to full.

Just slide it down, hit print srn, open up PAINT, and go to paste.

There are better ways to capture single frames from a video, but in general, they require that you get a "real and proper" player, instead of WMP.

there are always "better", then there is the "more convenient" way.
