ok, heres the story, I had a few network cards laying around that I wanted to see if they worked because I am going to a lan party this weekend and I would bring the cards for extras if someone dident have one. I turned of my computer, unpluged it, took off the side cover and removed the network card i had in there, i put in the new one and pluged the computer back in and started it up. it worked fine, win xp recognized it fine, so in turned of the computer, unpluged it, removed the NIC and put in the one I originaly took out. i then got a can of compressed air and blew the dust out of the case, since it was a little dusty. I then pluged the computer back in and started it up. Heres where it gets scary. When I started up the computer, it started beebing at me, about 8 beebs and then the beeps repeat. I dont know what is going on, i removed the NIC and my modem so i just have the essentials in the case and it still gives me those beeps, the worst thing is that i lost my mobo manual, DOH!
I have:
Athalon XP 1800 +
MSI 745 ULTRA SIS745 DDR333 mobo
512 DDR 333
and a shitty WD 10 GB 5400 rpm HDD
and a Enermax EG301P-VB(FM) 300W PSU
someone, please HELP me, |

First of all, pull out all the power connections and then reseat them. Pull out all the pci cards and blow out the slots just in case some dust got in there. Then, reseat your ram and see if it helps. _________________ Owner & Administrator

I just got back from a friends house, i tried removing all the pci cards and such to no avail. I tried his ram in my comp, but it still gave me the beeps. then i tried my ram in his system and it worked, i also tried my video card in his system and that also worked, so the only thing that i can tell that is wrong is that when i switched the NIC back in it somehow fried my mobo. so tomorow i have to call the store where i bought it from and see if it is under warrenty, |

First off, here's the link to download your motherboard manual: http://download.msi.com.tw/support/mnu_exe/E6561v1.1.exe . That's the english version in .PDF format. I downloaded the manual myself and looked to see where it explains BIOS Beep/Post codes, and there's nothing in there.
So, I recommend you do what Nathan mentions above first. If that still doesn't work, I've found out what 8 beeps means and it would concur with why you're still having trouble even with just the essentials in ur PC. According to this: http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/beep/ami.htm , 8 beeps means there's a "display memory read/write failure and the BIOS is unable to write to the frame buffer memory on the video card."
I'd make sure the vid card is seated properly and that its not damaged in any way. Just for kicks replace the video card if you have another one to test and see if that helps. Also, double-check ur jumper settings, and all cables. Go here to further troubleshoot ur video card/motherboard: http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/comp/video/fail_Failure.htm . |
