ECS G33T-M2 Intel G33 Express Motherboard Review @ PCSTATS

"The ECS G33T-M2 motherboard is based on Intel's news integrated graphics chipset, the G33 Express, and like the Intel P35 Express makes an awesome duo when paired with a dual core Intel Core 2 Duo processor... or a new 1333MHz FSB CPU for that matter. This board is also interesting because it's the first platform to pass through the PCSTATS test labs without an IDE slot."

Intel Core 2 Duo E6320/6420 Review @ Digit-Life

"In this article we'll examine performance and other characteristics of two processors that came out relatively recently: Intel Core 2 Duo 6320 and Core 2 Duo 6420. It is easy to notice that they are only distinguished from the older C2D E6300/6400 by a complete and full-sized, as in high-end models, 4MB shared L2 cache. However, besides explicit differences, there is one less evident – the newer stepping technology. In theory this could have lead to a change in such an important characteristic as power consumption. Well, let's see the test results..."

PC Apex Review // Nexus NX-8050 500W PSU

Posted by Nathan @ 5:11 AM (EDT)

"The outside of the NX-8050 isn't flashy and it doesn't have a lighted fan or a window but it does have an attractive flat black finish, a plus in my book. On the front the fixed cables exit the housing and the connectors for the modular cables are mounted to the case. On the bottom you can see the 120mm fan used to cool the unit. On the back you will find the usual on off switch and power cable connector. There is no supply voltage selector switch as this is handled automatically by the PSU. The venting on the back is made up of a very open and attractive honeycomb pattern for plenty of air flow."

"As you'd probably guess, this PSU is an ATX 12V v2.3 specification, 1000 Watt rated (surprise!) part, with active PFC. Where things get interesting is looking at the output properties of the M1000 - Where Thermaltake's ToughPower featured quad +12 Volt rails, Cooler Master one-ups it by featuring no less than six +12V rails, with a total output of 960 Watts, while giving the +3.3V and +5V rails 250 Watts to play with. Unfortunately, I don't have any details as to exactly how these six +12V rails are broken down as regards supplying the various aspects of connectivity available to the PSU, so all we can say at this point is 'Blimey, that's a lot of 12 Volt rails'."

TrackIR 4 Pro Point-of-View Headset Review @ HardOCP

Posted by Nathan @ 5:12 AM (EDT)

"Comparing the side-mounted array and top-mounted bracket is like comparing two vastly different products. In general, the side-mounted system was very disappointing and didn't work in any of our applications. The top-mounted system worked very well in GTR 2 and FSX, but we ran into some difficulties with BF2142. This has a great deal to do with the fact that there is no TrackIR profile for BR2142 and the software essentially had to "fake it" with a mouse emulator. The Y-axis was backwards and it was generally not of any great benefit to game play in that title. However, in the simulation titles, it worked ostensibly exactly as it should and we had no problems."

AMD FINALLY PULLED BACK the curtain on the remainder of its DirectX 10 GPU lineup recently, and we, erm, kinda stumbled on getting the review out at that time. I offered various excuses, including word of a small fire in Damage Labs and limited time with the cards themselves, all of which were true--and dramatic, which really helps sell an excuse. But I was also held back from producing a review by the same borderline obsessive-compulsive impulse that drives us to produce detailed reviews with extensive test results and commentary. DH Review: Supertalent DDR3 - 1333mhz

Posted by Nathan @ 3:45 AM (EDT)

On a speed level, it seems that DDR3 modules start from where the fastest DDR2 modules left off. DDR3 PC3-6400 (800MHz) and DDR3 PC3-8500 (1066MHz) are offered as ‘mainstream’ modules and PC3-1067 (1333MHz) and above are currently offered as high speed overclocking RAM. The best enthusiast DDR2 modules are currently struggling to reach 1250MHz and require voltage settings much higher than the 1.8V DDR2 standard. DDR3 timings appear considerably inferior to those of high-performance DDR2 modules but they are not directly comparable since the 8-bit pre-fetch buffer and the introduction of more technologies (such as power saving features, i.e. the auto self refresh and partial array self refresh) has them doing more things per cycle. PC3-12800 (1600MHz) modules are already being released to the market, so we feel that it won’t be late before we witness 1866MHz and even >2GHz modules available for sale, but it will certainly take several months, perhaps even years for DDR3 to overthrow DDR2 modules in the mainstream market. DDR2 RAM production is not going to decrease in the following months at the very least.

The Vantec EZ Swap EX 2.5 Inch Hard Drive Enclosure is the compact, internal/external, storage solution we're talking about.

DH Review: Arctic Cooling MX2 Thermal Compound

Posted by Nathan @ 3:43 AM (EDT)

Arctic Silver have everything to cater for chipset, VGA, Case or CPU cooling. Our most favoured product to date has been their original Freezer 7 CPU cooler which despite being 2 years old still cools our QX6700 Intel CPU without issue and in near silence, 24hours a day. Of course a good cooler can do only so much if a generic thermal compound is applied between the CPU/GPU/Chipset and the heatsink, luckily Arctic Cooling have us covered on this front as their MX-1 paste provides some excellent benefits over standard "gloop". However, the reason we are here is to introduce a new product, the MX-2 High Performance Thermal Compound.

Arctic Cooling Accelero S2 GPU Cooler Review @ Elite Bastards

Posted by Nathan @ 3:43 AM (EDT)

"The principle behind the Accelero S2 is simple enough - The cooler's two copper heat pipes draw heat away from the GPU core, where they are dissipated amongst the thirty-one aluminium fins on the heat sink. From here, cool air from the case removes that heat, where it can be exhausted out of the back of the case thanks to the inclusion of a ventilated backplate for the second slot occupied by the cooler. Also included with the S2 are eight RAM sinks, to attach to the board's memory modules, completing the passive cooling solution."

Genius Look 313 Media Webcam Review @ The TechZone

Posted by Nathan @ 3:42 AM (EDT)

One of the first things that will strike you about the Genius Look 313 Media webcam -- they call it a "multifunctional & 330k pixels video camera", but I'm just going to call it a webcam -- is that it's quite a large item. This is because it not only contains an image capturing camera, but flanking the manually-focusing lens on either side is a speaker. What's more, you can twist this tube 90 degrees so that the speakers actually point towards you, instead of jutting out the sides. Nifty idea.

Thermaltake Shark Aluminum ATX Full Tower Case Review @ Tweaknews.net

Posted by Nathan @ 4:13 AM (EDT)

"Thermaltake's Shark chassis has a lot going for it. It's light, stylish, roomy and does cool very well. Features like the removable mobo tray, rail storage scheme, drive installation design and front door treatment make the Shark a pleasure to work in and aesthetically pleasing. It's quiet, sturdy and the interior design is great for wire management, making a neat, tidy installation relatively easy."

Maxtor 750GB OneTouch III Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 4:11 AM (EDT)

"The amount of data we go through and accumulate these days is absolutely insane. With the ever broadening landscape of the information super highway, higher resolution games, more in depth and sophisticated software, not to mention photographs, movies and music, our need to find storage room grows just as fast. The storage has to not only be secure but high speed and portable as well. It definitely doesn't hurt if it looks cool, too. To this end Maxtor has recently introduced a line up of high speed, external hard drives. The 750 GB Maxtor OneTouch III boasts bus transfer rates of up to 800 Mb/sec and sustained transfer rates of 73 MB/sec. Could this be the solution to my data dilemma?"

Halo 2 PC Game Review @ Gamepyre

Posted by Nathan @ 4:11 AM (EDT)

Halo 2 PC is no reason to run out and upgrade to Vista, which is one thing you can be sure of. I don't know if Microsoft was trying to get more people to buy Windows Vista or what, but just don't. This makes the cost for most users far more than just the $50 to buy Halo 2, but also a Windows Vista upgrade. Wait for a good game that actually takes advantage of DirectX10 before you do that.

The GameTap Experience: What is it and How does it work? @ OCModshop

Gametap is a one-stop-shop for emulator junkies, casual gamers and, perhaps most importantly, budget-conscious (aka. cheapskate) players who dont have $50-60 to drop on a game that may or may not turn out to be a buggy mess.

MSI P35 Platinum Intel P35 Express Motherboard Review @ PCSTATS.com

Posted by Nathan @ 4:06 AM (EDT)

The MSI P35 Platinum motherboard overclocks pretty well (to 408 MHz), even though it does not have CPU clock multiplier adjustments in the BIOS. The new Intel P35 Express platform looks to be an excellent overclocker. We're excited to see what kind of results will be possible with a 1333MHZ FSB processor... Don't forget to check out the maximum motherboard overclocking chart at the end!

Akasa AK-965 Intel Core 2 Duo Heatsink Review @ Frostytech.com

Posted by Nathan @ 4:05 AM (EDT)

"Akasa's AK-965 heatsink utilizes three "U" shaped copper heatpipes to connect a compact copper base block with widely spaced aluminum fins. It's 95mm PWM fan spins only as fast as needed to achieve good temperature control, and works well at moving air relatively quietly through the aluminum fins. Copper heatpipes are positioned close to the processor, and in the direct path of airflow at the other end. All good thermal design criteria in fact. Now if this heatsink looks familiar to you, it's because this arrangement of copper and aluminum works, so many other companies have released similarly built heatsinks. "

Intel Pentium E2140/2160 and C2D 6320/6420 Review @ InsideHW.com

Posted by Nathan @ 4:03 AM (EDT)

"NetBurst is already history, whereas the Core architecture is the very high-end of CPU offer nowadays, but still Intel decided to resurrect Pentium and give it another shot. Pentium E2000 processors have only 1MB of L2 cache, but when overclocked and compared to newest C2D E6420 processors with 4MB of L2 cache, they put impressive performance for sub-100USD processors. Let's see what Pentium E2140 / E2160 and Core 2 Duo E6320 / E6420 have to offer..."

NVIDIA Low Budget 7300 GT vs 8500 GT Comparison @ Madshrimps

Posted by Nathan @ 4:02 AM (EDT)

"When we finished our first round of testing with the PNY 7300 GT DDR2 and 8500 GT DDR2 we came to the conclusion that the 7300 GT was only able to keep up with the newer card if we overclocked it. NVIDIA had succeeded in making a new generation low end card which improved performance over its predecessor. But then we got our hands on a DDR3 equipped 7300 GT and we had to change our conclusion."

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P @ Bjorn3D

Posted by Nathan @ 3:46 AM (EDT)

Evolution is the driving force behind change. It's what causes all forms of life to evolve in order to survive in their environment. The recently released P35 chipset is the next step in Northbridge evolution and Intel's answer to a changing environment in mid-range motherboards. Gone are the days when buying a mid-range board would leave you wanting for more features. Now when you buy a board such as the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3P you get eight, that's right eight, SATA-II ports and a whopping twelve USB 2.0 ports. This is all on top of some serious overclocking capabilities and high quality components. But trust me it just sounds expensive. So without further ado I present the next step in the evolution of the motherboard; the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3P.

YouGamers Latest News: Microsoft to pimp Vista with Gears of War?

Posted by Nathan @ 3:46 AM (EDT)

The PC version of Gears of War is definitely going to be announced at the E3 2007 this week - a leaked video (that got quickly pulled) confirms as much. What's interesting is the fact that it's apparently going to be a Games for Windows Live Title. So far every GFW Live title has been a Vista exclusive, supposedly because GFW Live "only works on Vista". So it looks almost certain that Microsoft is going to keep on pushing Vista with Gears of War as well and the XP gamers will have to wait and see if hackers can come up with a "fix" for this one, similar to the "fixes" produced for Shadowrun and Halo 2.

DH Review: ATI X2400 - NV 8400 Roundup

Posted by Nathan @ 3:45 AM (EDT)

While enthusiasts care only about the middle and high end computer parts market, it is the low end cards that bring in the most money for the manufacturers. All those desktop machines that are only used to browse the internet and write the occasional document don’t really need a GeForce 8800 Ultra, but considering that more and more people want to watch videos on their PCs an integrated graphics card doesn’t cut it either.

HIS ICEQ3 Radeon X1950 Pro 256Meg PCI Express Videocard Review @ Tweaknews.net

Posted by Nathan @ 5:24 AM (EDT)

"This videocard has more or less everything that a gamer needs other than a sufficient amount of onboard memory. Although this card looks great, comes with a complete hardware bundle and software package with a full version game, it all means nothing when a card is hampered with a lack of sufficient memory for today's gaming environment."

NZXT Hush Silent Tower Case Review @ Pro-Clockers

Posted by Nathan @ 5:23 AM (EDT)

The Hush has some of that elegance the Lexa had, but at the same time it has a little space-age design in it as well. The thing that the Hush has over the Lexa and all the other cases from NZXT is that it is aimed at the silent PC crowd. Granted this is obviously where it gets its name from. With silence as one of the main features of this case a few other things one would look for would be pricing, size and manageability. And the Hush has all of this and more. Now that I have talked up the Hush lets move on to the review and some pictures.

SUB-ZERO ExodusFlow Altauna CPU Water Block Review @ Madshrimps

Posted by Nathan @ 8:12 PM (EDT)

"Watercooling.de has had design and manufacturing input in several water blocks they've sold online over the past five years. My first introduction to German engineered water blocks was through this store when I tested the original CF1 Microstructure block and later with the "upgrade kit" compared it to popular USA system Dangr Den TDX vs. CF1 Rev.2. Watercooling.de's recent arrival has already received high praise from other testers, so today I test the new SUB-ZERO ExodusFlow Altauna, will it earn my "Brass O-Ring"? "
