In Win 'NA Hard Drive Enclosure Review @ High Tech Reviews

Posted by Nathan @ 2:10 PM (EDT)

Is it written somewhere that every piece of hardware made has to look like computer hardware? Not in the eyes of our friends over at In Win. They have taken a 3.5" USB/eSATA hard drive enclosure and turned it into something that as far removed from normal hardware as possible. The device I am referring to is the In Win 'NA 3.5" Hard Drive Enclosure. They have taken a standard hard drive enclosure and have set it up so that the top of the device can look like standard hardware or be replaced with a small porcelain tray. You will have to see the device to truly appreciate it!

Cooler Master V10 CPU Cooler Review @ Legit Reviews

Posted by Nathan @ 2:10 PM (EDT)

"I have to say that I really like the Cooler Master V10 CPU Cooler. Cooler Master has been hard at work on it for over a year and it looks like all that hard work paid off. Yes it is big, yes it is bulky, but that and the ability to cool so well are what make this thing awesome. Even though you may not get Megan Fox under your side panel checking it out, I'm sure that you'll have plenty of friends asking you about your new CPU cooler..."

Super Talent Luxio 64GB High-Capacity Luxury USB Drive Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 2:08 PM (EDT)

"The Super Talent Luxio looks very professional. Its wood finish combined with the metal band creates the luxurious style wanted. Also, who can complain about a 64GB capacity? There is room for a lot of stuff in there! A nice addition is that the user can partition that 64GB into two smaller partitions of the desired size. One can then be locked with a password using the SecureLock application. Data is encrypted using a dedicated chip inside the thumb drive for maximum protection, which is far more secure than software encryption. Moreover, it has good transfer speeds. They are not as good as The Godfather USB flash drive from the same manufacturer, but in general they are great. Also, with the Luxio is provided a black genuine leather carrying case which can be attached to a belt or anything else."

Olympus Stylus Tough-8000 Review @ Digital Trends

Posted by Nathan @ 6:02 PM (EDT)

Given the high ratings of Survivor and extreme sports, it makes all the sense in the world that tough digicams are more popular than ever. You've gotta record those exploits to share with the world, right? As we reported from PMA, several companies added their names to the growing list offering cameras that can take a serious beating, such as crashing onto rocks, being stepped on, tossed into overboard or just plain manhandled by a rambunctious three-year-old. Olympus started the trend with its Stylus SW series, and now has introduced two new ones with an official "tough" designation. The 12-megapixel Tough-8000 is the more rugged of the pair and the one we were most anxious to try out. Should it join you on the slopes or white water rafting?

In-Win Commander 850W Power Supply @ Bjorn3D

Posted by Nathan @ 6:01 PM (EDT)

The power supply is sometimes misunderstood as one of the main components that every computer requires to run. When shopping for power supplies, sometimes we don't understand exactly how important it actually is and tend to not give it some serious thought and even sometimes grab the least powerful/costly unit that we see. This is a very bad idea because the power supply regulates and protects all your other components, and when getting the cheaper units, they tend to die and most times they don't go out alone.

Cooler Master Elite 360 Case Review @ OCIA.net

Posted by Nathan @ 6:00 PM (EDT)

"We're certainly no strangers to Cooler Master here at OCIA.net, particularly their superb lineup of cases. In every instance, Cooler Master has walked away with an OCIA.net Seal of Approval, and garnered praise not only from myself but also other reviewers. However if there were one negative detail to point out, it would be the higher than average price that these cases demand. One other might be the overly large size of the chassis. Cooler Master's Elite series of cases address both of these issues however. Prices for these entry level enclosures are well below $100, some even under $50! But in order to get the cost down to this budget level does Cooler Master have to cut corners and deliver an inferior product? Or is the Elite series every bit as capable of holding up to the Cooler Master name?"

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550S Processor Review @ Legit Reviews

Posted by Nathan @ 5:19 AM (EDT)

"The performance of the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 processor was impressive, and for those wanting to spend under $275 on an LGA775 processor it packs some horsepower under the hood that rivals nearly any other LGA775 processor. With four processing cores running at 2.83GHz, a total of 12MB of shared L2 cache, a 1333MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) and the fact that the processor is built on the 45nm process are the reasons that it does so well in the benchmarks. The Intel Q9550 is also an overclocking monster as we were able to reach an overclock of 1.2GHz with ease. With the Intel Q9550 processor running at a clock frequency of 4GHz it was easily able to compete against the Intel Core i7 series, which shows what a little clock frequency will do to the potential of the Q9550..."

Asus Eee 1002HA Review @ Digital Trends

Posted by Nathan @ 5:19 AM (EDT)

"If there's one problem plaguing just about every netbook out on the market right now, it's that cheap, toy-like feel. Manufacturers just can't seem to escape it when they're having their devices manufactured thousands of miles away in factories that seemingly just switched over just last month from building olive-green plastic army men. Asus attempted to remedy the netbook's image problem with the high-end S101, but price followed suit, and the $800 price tag made us question whether you call it a netbook at all. The Eee 1002HA stands as a compromise between the two, adopting the luxurious look of the latter within the price range ($499 MSRP) of a true netbook."

Asus P6T Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 5:17 AM (EDT)

"But both the 920 and P6T put on a little show and came up big. The maximum baseclock I could achieve with stability was 222MHz. But this was pretty much bench stable. 220 was stable enough to be prime stable at 220x18, or 3.96 GHz, pretty sweet so far. To get there I needed just 1.38 volts on the CPU, a QPI voltage of 1.39v, IOH of 1.36v, CPU PLL voltage of 1.86 with the memory at 1.62 volts. Not a whole heck of a lot to do to bust out that kind of speed. But of course, 3.9 is not enough and I wanted to see if the little 920 was indeed a bona fide 4GHz chip without big volts. To push higher, I dropped the base clock down to 215MHz from 220MHz with a multiplier of 19 to get to 4.1GHz. I was expecting a fight to get there and was surprised at the fact that all it took to get this clock speed stable was an increase in the CPU voltage to 1.395volts with no other changes to the previous voltage settings. Now the one thing I found that you have to do though is keep air flowing over the X58 chip to keep it cool to maintain stability at the high baseclock levels I was playing at. Other than that, nothing really special was needed to push the clock speeds on the P6T. I have got to say that the board delivered the overclocking goods with an untested CPU."

Noctua NH-U12P CPU Cooler Review @ OverclockersHQ

Posted by Nathan @ 6:32 PM (EDT)

"Overclocking and tweaking are a way of life for most enthusiast users. We love squeezing every little bit out of our rigs, and pushing limits, to get the most we can out of our machines and our hobby. What are some of the bottle necks of overclocking and tweaking? For one, hardware is of course the first major factor. Two having a bios that will allow you to over clock etc. Once you have the check list of all the enthusiast grade components you can begin. The number one OC killer as I am sure any enthusiast can tell you is temperature. When you start increasing voltages you start getting your CPU nice and toasty. This is simply unacceptable if you want a stable clock speed, this is where after market coolers like the Noctua NH-U12P CPU Cooler come into play. Let’s see what kind of benefits a cooler like the Noctua NH-U12P has over your run of the mill stock cooler:"

Now, however, under competitive pressure from the iPhone and other touch screen cell phones, RIM has decided to create a version of the BlackBerry with a touch screen rather than their traditional BlackBerry keypad. They have also included additional special features. The result is the BlackBerry Storm. We took a look to see how if the Storm could become a formable opponent for the iPhone and/or a working force in the BlackBerry corral."

TRENDnet TV-M7 Wireless IP Monitor Review @ Digital Trends

Posted by Nathan @ 9:07 PM (EDT)

"Trendet's Internet Camera Monitor kit, which consists of a seven-inch LCD and a wireless IP (Internet Protocol) camera, is a versatile video-surveillance system that doubles as a networkable digital picture frame. In case you're wondering what differentiates an IP camera from a web camera, the key is that a web camera relies on a PC to make its video available to a network. A web camera typically connects to a PC's USB port, and it cannot operate properly without a host system. An IP camera is more or less a standalone device. It connects directly to your network and can be monitored directly-even over the Internet, if properly configured."

ASRock N7AD-SLI Motherboard Review @ Virtual-Hideout

Posted by Nathan @ 9:06 PM (EDT)

“Of the computing marketplace, there are always niches to fill. Sure, the budget user has their darling and the enthusiast simply empties their wallet, but what ever happens to those users who want something eclectic, that has certain features, but not others - often things that are in no way offered by a chipset, motherboard, or manufacturer. Call me crazy, but it seems that for the bulk of it, the engineers of ASRock take delight in producing an uncommon product. Whether it's a 945 board that fully supported SLI, a 680i board that sported 45nm CPUs, or the simply odd layout of their backplate, ASRock's boards are always eye-catching, to say the least. Though there are reviews of their products in the month coming, what we'll have to settle for today is the 740i - a motherboard that offers a thick feature set for the Intel platform, at a reasonable price. Let's dive in.”

eVGA X58 3X SLI Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 9:06 PM (EDT)

"It seems like eVGA wasn't too affected by nVidia's abandonment of chipset design for Intel's latest processors. Their X58 3X SLI is exactly what we have come to expect from an eVGA product. It works perfectly out of the box, comes with a decent bundle, looks great and, more importantly, it overclocks well. Performance is right on par with what we have seen from other X58 boards as of yet. The board's colour scheme looks pretty good and the black PCB is a no-brainer. The layout is also very well done, mostly everything is exactly where it should be. I do say mostly, because the 8 pin auxiliary power connector is in a rather awkward position, right between the regulator's heatsink and the rear I/O connectors. That makes it hard to reach once the board is installed into a case, but at least it's usually a one time thing so I can live with it. The one SATA port above the top PCI-Express is kind of in a odd position as well, but with eight other easily accessible ports it's not much of a problem. Spacing between the PCI-Express is exactly like it should be, three dual slot cards will fit perfectly."

Rosewill Conqueror Case @ Bjorn3D

A mid-tower chassis is a happy medium between a full tower and a mini ATX tower. These types of computer towers are easier to move around, generally lighter, and also can house large computer components without sacrificing airflow our computer components may need to help them stay cool.

AMD Phenom II 720 X3 Black Edition Processor Review @ OCIA.net

Posted by Nathan @ 7:11 PM (EDT)

"With the launch of Deneb, AMD has finally moved to the 45nm process and are breaking in a new socket interface at the same time. The main difference with AM3 is the introduction of DDR3 support. But rather than require a forklift upgrade, AMD has incorporated both DDR2 and DDR3 memory controllers into the AM3 chips. One of the first of these chips debuted last month with the tri core X3 BE 720, running at 2.8Ghz. But with only three cores, is the 720 even a viable upgrade for someone with a first generation Phenom quad or is it just a hamstrung slug of silicon?"

CrossFire vs. SLI @ InsideHW

Posted by Nathan @ 7:10 PM (EDT)

“On every presentation of new GPU generation that we attended in past few years, systems with more than one graphics card were presented as ultimate performance setup. Problem with those configurations was their price in a real world environment. Even now there are more users that have only one graphics card in their rig but the times has changed and now even low-budget users can have Crossfire of SLI system thanks to price drops. First of all, motherboards that support Crossfire or SLI are not too expensive anymore as they were a year ago. Secondly, graphics cards have become also cheaper so users now face a dilemma: if they already have a graphics card from mid or high-range class with motherboard that supports CrossFire/SLI, is it better to sell that one and buy new one, or to buy same graphics card and make CrossFire/SLI system?…”

Corsair TR3X6G1600C8D 1600 Dominator Memory @ Viper Lair

Posted by Nathan @ 7:10 PM (EDT)

"From an enthusiast point of view, 3GB is the minimum most should consider when choosing a kit. For a long while, 2GB was the recommended amount, but since two does not devide into 3 memory sticks, we're now at 3GB. The question is now, do you need 3GB or 6GB. If you are really rich, you can even get yourself a 12GB Triple Memory kit but be prepapred to sleep on the couch if the significant other was budgeting that joint bank account for something important like rent or food."

OCZ 2GB Diesel USB 2.0 Flash Drive Review @ Legit Reviews

Posted by Nathan @ 7:08 PM (EDT)

"The OCZ 2GB Diesel USB 2.0 Flash drive is a decent little device as long as you aren't looking for blistering fast transfer rates. The Diesel should be fast enough for mainstream use or for those that don't do a whole lot of file transfers. If you only use a USB 2.0 Flash drive to back data up or to move files around when needed the Diesel should be perfect. The OCZ Diesel also has a slick looking appearance and is certainly not bad looking by any means..."

Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 @ Bjorn3D

Posted by Nathan @ 7:07 PM (EDT)

The NH-U12P has been considered one of the best, if not the best air CPU cooler. It is truly a master of engineering, with no detail overlooked in the design process. The cooler was built with, not only quality in mind, but price also. The price is easliy comparable to the Thermalright TRUE 120, but unlike the TRUE, it includes two fans. While you may be able to run the TRUE without a fan due to its great design, a fan lowers the temperatures by leaps and bounds.

The large backlit blue LCD display is really visible from long distances and it will automatically charge your iPod while it's docked too."

Slingbox PRO-HD @ TestFreaks

Posted by Nathan @ 3:54 PM (EDT)

" Over the years, SlingMedia has expanded the Slingbox line from its humble one model beginnings. Now they have a new flagship model known as the Slingbox PRO-HD. Previous Slingbox (PRO and SOLO) products supported HD component inputs, but down converted the high definition source to standard definition 640×480 resolution. This version not only allows you watch your TV anywhere including High Definition video and is the first Slingbox to stream high definition video. In addition, it has three input sources including one for a high definition video source. The Slingbox PRO-HD replaces the Slingbox Solo as the king of the SlingMedia family of products."

HoneyWell Securadrive @ Bjorn3D

With portable external HDD's becoming more and more popular they are also one of the easiest things to magically grow legs and wonder off. Or in plain terms, ripped off or stolen. With that in mind, whatever we have on that drive, the person who took it has complete access to it and the files or personal information that we may have stored on it. Securing an external HDD usually required a software program or a key to physically lock the drive in an attempt to keep our 'Private Lives' safe. Which are normally easy to break or crack to access the information on that drive.

Cooler Master ATCS 840 Case Review @ Motherboards.org

Posted by Nathan @ 3:54 PM (EDT)

Cooler Master did it with the HAF 932 case I reviewed last year and has done it again. For those wanting the ultimate in cooling solutions this case has no less than 7 fan spots with three of them being of the 230mm variety. The removable motherboard tray allows the end-user to install everything outside of the case and test it before installing it. Cooler Master knows its stuff when it comes to cases and this one fits the bill. The only negative I can see is the screws on the PCI Slots being necessary. The all aluminum case is lighter than one would expect at less than 30 pounds.
