“Asus saw the need for an enthusiast-class motherboard based on the P35 chipset, but with a more flexible PCI Express configuration. And leveraging what they undoubtedly learned from designing the PW564-WS , engineered the Blitz Extreme and Blitz Formula motherboards, complete with a PCI Express switch that allowed them to connect the P35 Northbridge's PCI Express lanes to not one, but a pair of PEG slots. Asus didn't stop there, however, and also outfitted the Blitz boards with a hybrid air / liquid cooling apparatus and a number of other features that are sure to please.” |

Notebook makers generally ask a lot of money for replacements so you may end up spending a lot less money by buying the NP-100. Not only will it be cheaper, but you'll also be able to use this adapter for other notebook you buy in the future and the NP-100 may be able to charge your battery faster and more efficient. |

I was very impressed by the overall construction and quality that this case possessed - it was definitely up to Lian-Li standards, and you can immediately tell that it's a sturdy case that won't fail you." |

One of the most critical components any PC enthusiast can drop some cash on is a decent CPU cooler. Whether you pick air or water cooling, a heatsink can make or break your CPU’s performance and longevity. One unique heatsink on the market right now is Silverstone’s NT06-Lite. This CPU cooler is designed to be used in Small Form Factor systems without a fan. But, users also have the option to install any 120mm fan on it for improved performance. Let’s see if this all aluminum and copper wonder can fit the bill in our LGA775 system. |
Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H AMD 690G Motherboard Review @ PCSTATS.com |
Posted by Nathan @ 4:44 AM (EDT) |
For AMD to succeed in the future, it needs to build a pedigree of inexpensive and fully featured chipsets that draw in users on a budget. After all, we all want to spend the absolute least for the most return, right? With that kind of mind set, a motherboard based on the AMD 690G that offers you good solid performance in WindowsXP or Vista, comes with a built in videocard, and even allows you to output HD movies to a big screen HDTV via one thin HDMI cable... all for under $100 bucks. That kind of feature set is hard to resist, and one of the reasons why the AMD 690G is so popular. |
Intel Core 2 Duo E2160 vs E6300: Budget CPU Comparison @ Madshrimps |

"Last year Intel gave us the Core 2 Duo, a competitively priced CPU with very acceptable prices for the low and mid-range. This year Intel introduced newer models from low to high end, we take a look at the new low priced E2160 model which has less L2 cache but higher multiplier and compare it with the low end part from last year, the E6300." |

At a recent briefing for AMD's latest entry and mid-range cards, the HD2400 and HD2600, I was told an interesting little tidbit that AMD had found out. It turns out that a lot of the customers buying their previous entry-level cards, the X1300, had bought it mainly for playing games. Even AMD was surprised that people would first spend as little as possible on the video card and then buy games each month for 50-100$ instead of buying a few less games and put the saved money on a faster card . It probably is not as strange as it sounds though. We have all seen all those "gaming computers" that are being sold with slow X1300, NVIDIA 7300LE cards or even (shudder) on-board video. How should Joe Average know what is a good gaming card or not? |

Yeah, that's what I thought too, until I got my hands on the Saitek X52 Pro Flight Control System. Like the popular X52, the Pro is an upgrade to the already proven platform that precedes it. "I like my water-cooling, and in recent years the CPU cooler market has lost it's attraction. However, I was intrigued by the design of the Arctic Square and was hopeful that it might prove to be interesting. Holding it in my hands for the first time I became more than a little concerned that it just wouldn't be able to perform all that well. It was mainly aluminium and quite light considering the size. Testing proved it to be quite the sleeper though, with load temperatures almost as low as the stock coolers idle temperatures." |

The ALiveNF7G-HDready has no problems playing H.264 HD-DVD or Blu-Ray movies at resolutions of 720P, 1080i / 1080P with a minimum 2GB of RAM installed and a CPU at least as powerful as an Athlon64 X2-5200+." |

Obviously when I'm doing a review, I am looking to see what doesn't work, if anything, along with what does work. In the case of the Targus ACH80US Desktop USB 2.0 4-port hub with Audio pass-through, there wasn't anything that didn't work. It did all that it says that it will do, and it did it easily. There was no forcing required on any of the connections, everything plugged in smoothly. All of the functions worked as they should and basically there were no surprises. With four USB 2.0 ports, two of which being "high power" for those devices needing that extra bit of juice, I can see where this hub will find many a happy home with both notebook users and PC users. |

The 5.25" drive bay also doubles as part of something best described as a processor isolation chamber. Air is drawn in through the vents in the top of the case, through the removable air filter mounted to the top of the drive bay by the processor's fan, and then it exhausted out of the vents found above the rear I/O panel. This cooling arrangement is another point that reminds me of a BTX setup, as the processor fan doubles as the case cooling fan. |

So, you've got an HDTV with just one or two HDMI ports, but you've got that high definition satellite set-top box, you've got that glossy wonder known as Apple TV, you bought yourself an HD DVD player in preparation for your new home theater experience, and you're itching to get in on some Virtua Fighter 5 or Resistance: Fall of Man. But you don't want to have to crawl behind your TV each time you want to switch sources. Well, that's where this lovingly simple solution comes into play. The XtremeHD HDMI Switcher from XtremeMac is simplicity itself. It swallows up to four HDMI sources and spits out a single HDMI cable that you can connect to your HDTV. There's no strange configuration to consider, no software to setup. Just plug it in and it's good to go. |

"The Lexa Blackline is a nice looking rig. The window could be a little smaller, to hide some of the wire mess, but not a big deal. The red LED fans are a change from the blue ones most rigs use, and the black/red combination is a cool look. I ran the front, rear, and side 120mm fans with 12v, and the trio are surprisingly quiet. So quiet that I may not change them to 5v in the future as I usually do. Keep in mind if you run them at 5v, the LEDs probably won’t light up much. The red HDD led is different…goes very well with the theme." |

If only you could bring the temperature down a little, to have some fun overclocking it, or even just for the peace of mind that the card is running cooler than the stock 55 to 70 degrees Celsius. As with many other cooling applications, Thermaltake has introduced an air cooler that just might suit your needs. As far as a down side, the Tuniq 3 didn't really have one. I wasn't crazy about removal of the 3D Core Fan assembly but it took all of 60 seconds and is a small price to pay for having this adjustable cooling mount present. A removable motherboard tray would have also been nice but the addition of one would have added to the end cost of the case which I think is absolutely fantastic. There is a lot of case here for $70. And it is this price that really brings it all together in the end. |

Many of us have been saying this lately; with the prices of computer components dropping and just becoming frustrated with all the wires that need to be ran from all the separate components when you build a normal home theater, it just might be easier to have everything come from one source. How many of you have tons of movies lying around collecting dust in, on or hidden in shelves, racks or closets? "It's just about time for school, and everyone is looking to upgrade their current computer or to build an inexpensive computer that will get the requested tasks done. Maybe you just need another computer for the kids or grandparents, but you don't want to break the bank getting one. At today's prices, you can build yourself a decent machine without spending more than five hundred dollars. All you'll need is a motherboard, processor, memory, hard drive, CD drive, power supply, and a case. You don't necessarily need a video card if you have onboard graphics on the motherboard. The ECS G33T-M2 motherboard is what we'll be looking at today and it has onboard video, which will save you at least one hundred dollars since you don't have to purchase a graphics card. Can this motherboard give you the performance you need while keeping your wallet full? Remember, this is not going to be used in your main rig or gaming computer, but rather in a computer that you can build with components lying around the house. Join us as we examine this ECS G33T-M2 motherboard." |

"Although PNY might not be the general port of call for enthusiasts when it comes to upgrading their graphics card, they produce a wide range of GPUs designed for users of not only the latest and greatest, but the mid range cards too. Today I have such a card, the 8800GTS 320mb which other manufacturers have done very well with. Let's see if PNY can do the same." |

What separates the PC gamer from a console junkie? The keyboard, of course! But while many XBox kiddies have found their demise at the hands of the mouse and WASD combo, the keyboard was never intended as a gaming device, it just naturally fit the task. Looking to improve upon the mechanics, Cyber Snipa releases their PC Gamepad 2, a new take on an old standard. Can it improve upon the keyboard experience, or are some things truly better left alone? |

"The ASUS Blitz Formula is easily one of the best motherboards we have ever used. It scored higher in the benchmarks, set new overclocking records, and did it all while being a feature-rich solution with stock water cooling for the northbridge that enhances cooling across the entire platform. If you want a great enthusiast motherboard today, and want to experiment with water cooling, the ASUS Blitz Formula should be at the top of your short list. That is if you have the cash for it. This motherboard makes you realize just how much life is left in DDR2." |

Logitech claims that that the Alto -- which retails for about $99.99 -- will "raise your sights on notebook comfort with an adjustable stand that puts your notebook display at eye level and gives you a full-sized keyboard for faster, more comfortable typing." Better still, it's supposed to work "with virtually any notebook." Bold claims, but does the Alto live up to these expectations? |

"When building an HTPC, most look to achieve the HD standard at a minimal cost, so to accommodate this we are seeing more motherboard manufacturers produce boards with onboard HD video and sound. Some have HDMI capabilities, which will also carry sound, and some choose to use DVI as the way to transport the HD digital image. With straight DVI, these motherboards must have an additional sound source onboard since, at this time, DVI is incapable of transferring sound by itself. We are also seeing two formats of motherboards that are equipped with the HD qualities, Micro-ATX and ATX. Micro- ATX allows for a smaller system case which will be more compact, whereas ATX will require a normal sized case and may not fit in most entertainment centers." |
SOYO FM-SY-SLIM20GB 20GB 1.8" SlimEx Platinum @ Benchmark Reviews |
Posted by Nathan @ 4:12 PM (EDT) |
Do you remember SOYO? It has been almost ten years now since I build my very first computer system from parts ordered over the web. Back then, it was all about searching Price Watch for deals, and the AMD K6-II CPU. I clearly remember learning how difficult it was assigning IRQ addresses for dial-up modems, and how troublesome it was to load the drivers for Windows 98. In those days it was very common to find SOYO brand motherboards for sale almost everywhere you shopped, and most often times those motherboards fetched a premium for the high-end accessories they featured. Those were the good old days, and that was the old SOYO. |
Super Talent 2GB 200x USB Flash Drive Review @ Virtual-Hideout |

“Not too long ago, 128mb flash drives were the norm; now the norm is around 2GB or up. Well, today I'm going to be reviewing a 2GB flash drive from Super Talent. Now keep in mind that size is not the only factor in a flash drive, but the speed in which data flows also plays a major factor. The Super Talent 2GB drive has a rated speed of 200x. 200x is extremely fast, but just for the sake of comparison, 400x is around the speed of USB2.0 Super Talent also offers other varieties of flash drives.” |

"Today we are going to take a look at the Antec Nine Hundred gaming case. This is a mid-tower ATX case with the capability of using ATX and uATX motherboards. With this case, any gamer or regular computer user who wants a little kick-in-their-case, will be totally satisfied at not only the look and quality, but the whole tower itself inside and out." |

"Raula first pointed out that there is no universal definition for next-gen games. Next-gen is as much about innovation (he gave the Nintendo Wii and DS, Playstation Network and Xbox Live Arcade as examples) as it is about increasing hardware capabilities, and Recoil's innovation is Cinegames." |
ASRock 4Core1333-FullHD HTPC Motherboard Review @ Virtual-Hideout |
Posted by Nathan @ 2:46 AM (EDT) |
“The latest motherboard to reach my test bench is the ASRock 4Core1333-FullHD HTPC Motherboard. The features it offers aren't completely new yet it does support 1333 Front Side Processors right out of the box. Being a movie buff that enjoys a good movie, I also enjoy great sound to go with the movie even more. Compared to current A/V Component systems you can pick up at any Best Buy or Fry's, the ASRock board offers up upgradeability and a more configurable Home Theater experience. This is a new kind of ASRock, so read on to see what kind of goodness we found.” |

"We have been prattling on about DDR3 and the Intel platform for some time now. It has only been a few months since DDR3 hit the shore, but its already starting to be produced in mass, especially by the enthusiast companies such as OCZ, Micron, Mushkin, Corsair, Geil and so on. |
