Seagate 1 Terabyte Barracuda 7200.11 Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 10:38 PM (EST)

"The Seagate 1TB drive swept all the other drives in the HD tune benchmark and took two out of four in the Sandra benchmark, which gives an overall total of about 80% in the win column. The 1 TB Barracuda is a second generation perpendicular recording drive, hence the 7200.11 as opposed to the 7200.10 that the 750GB Barracuda, so this could possibly be the reason why it does a little better than its little brother. Or could it be that my 750GB drive is starting to wear down a little considering the punishment I've put it through."

LG VX10000 Voyager Full Review @ TheTechLounge

Posted by Nathan @ 10:37 PM (EST)

“First, I must admit that I have a hard time not comparing the LG Voyager VX10000 to the iPhone. I’ve owned an iPhone for six months and am very happy with it, but to be blunt, the two phones shouldn’t be compared directly. The iPhone is more expensive, $100-200 more than the VX10000, and isn’t available on the Verizon network. The best feature of the phone is the Verizon V-Cast mobile TV. It’s fairly expensive at $15/mo, but having eight channels of TV at your disposal is pretty sweet, and I was usually able to find something to watch between ESPN, Comedy Central and NBC News. The biggest flaw with this phone (and it’s not the only phone with this problem) is that the touch screen is more of a gimmick than an honest to goodness feature. It’s as if it’s added on to compete with that other phone rather than be a useful feature.”

Zalman CNPS9700NT Heatsink Review @ Frostytech.com

Posted by Nathan @ 10:37 PM (EST)

"The Zalman CNPS9700NT follows in the footsteps of the popular CNPS9700 LED heatsink, and it's just as big as the latter. What sets the CNPS9700NT apart is a 100mm Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) compliant fan - making this heatsink a more attractive choice for Intel platforms than the pervious version and its manual fan speed controller. Oh, and did we mention it's chrome plated an evil Terminator-grey shade of silver? Blame nVidia for that one, personally we prefer our heatsinks in bare aluminum or copper."

OCZ PC2-6400 ReaperX HPC Enhanced Bandwidth 4GB Memory Review @ PCSTATS.com

Posted by Nathan @ 10:37 PM (EST)

"OCZ has put together a very interesting 4GB DDR2 memory kit, namely because these modules feature heatpipes and a large aluminum fin heatsink. The ReaperX HPC heatsink system draws heat way from the DDR2 BGA DRAM Modules, allowing system airflow to do all the work silently. The OCZ PC2-6400 ReaperX HPC Enhanced Bandwidth dual channel memory kit is 4GB in capacity, and it retails for a competitive price. This 4GB kit of PC2-6400 memory kit operates at DDR2-800 speeds with timings of 4-4-3-15."

OCZ Vendetta CPU Cooler @ Pro-Clockers

Posted by Nathan @ 10:36 PM (EST)

OCZ would like to take us back to the good ole days with their new cooler, the Vendetta. If you had to put the Vendetta in a class it would definitely be a tower type. The Vendetta stands tall being supported by three heatpipes surrounded by plenty of aluminum fins. The Vendetta is not the top of the line cooler from OCZ but more in the middle. So I would venture to say it is gear to take on the middle range of coolers from other manufacturers. How tall will it stand in our test?

VisionTek TV Wonder 650PCIe @ Bjorn3D

Posted by Nathan @ 10:35 PM (EST)

The core of any TV tuner is the chip that is designed to receive the signal. Currently, there are various chips that are designed to receive different signals. If you have purchased a TV tuner two years ago, you are most likely to have a card that only receives analog signal. Lately, the newer tuner card comes with digital tuner receivers which receives DVB or ATSC transmissions. Many newer and more expensive tuners even come with both tuners (combo) where users are able to receive both signals. A combo tuner is different from hybrid tuner. A combo tuner can receive both digital and analog together to allow users to watch TV coming from both signals while a hybrid tuner can only receive one or the other.

GeForce 8800 GT Round-Up: Asus, EVGA, MSI @ HotHardware.com

Posted by Nathan @ 5:07 PM (EST)

As you all know, availability is still tight for the GeForce 8800 GT, but we thought it was time to round a few cards up for a benchmark fest. We’ve got factory-overclocked GeForce 8800 GT cards from Asus, EVGA, and MSI in house, the EN8800GT TOP, the e-GeForce 8800 GT KO, and the NX8800GT, respectively. At their most basic level, all three of these cards are quite similar, but each company does put their own spin on the GeForce 8800 GT in an effort to differentiate their product from the competition. Which one does the best job remains to be seen.

Why the Wii Zapper Sucks @ OCModShop

Posted by Nathan @ 5:06 PM (EST)

Yes I proclaim that the Wii Zapper sucks. Why, one might ask? Well, I bought one hoping that somehow it would be like the old NES Zapper that came with the old gaming console (bundled together with Super Mario and Duck Hunt), or just slightly like the bazooka you got with the SNES console, but Im afraid it turns out to be nothing more than an expensive piece of plastic, just because it's branded..

Asus EN8800GT TOP Geforce 8800GT 512MB Videocard Review @ PCSTATS.com

Enter ASUS and a very strong contender for your cash - the PCI Express x16 ASUS EN8800GT TOP/G/HTDP/512M/A videocard. GeForce 8800GT-class videocards tend to overclock well, so it's no surprise that many come pre-overclocked from the factory floor. The Asus EN8800GT TOP videocard is tweaked to 700 MHz core and 1000 MHz memory, up from the default 600 MHz core / 900 MHz memory settings. Sunon Waturbo Liquid Circulation Heatsink Review @ Frostytech.com

Posted by Nathan @ 5:05 PM (EST)

"The Sunon Waturbo isn't your average heatsink, at its center is a liquid core and a little magnetically coupled impeller to stir things up. As the 92mm fan spins, so do the blades of the internal impeller. This pumps the red glycol based coolant around the small aluminum chamber at the heart of the Waturbo, through a pyramid of 1mm square copper pins and around again. The idea is to use the liquid to distribute the heat from the hefty copper base to the rest of the aluminum heatsink. In practice, the concept more or less works."

YouGamers Latest Content: Need for Speed ProStreet (PC) Review

Posted by Nathan @ 5:13 PM (EST)

"To actually play the game without any slowdowns that tend to lead to crashes, you need a considerably faster system. NFS ProStreet seems to tax both the video card and the CPU, and both need to be up to a reasonably modern spec to allow smooth play with consistent 30fps+ at 1024x768 or 1280x1024 resolutions. While lower frame rates are fine with some genres, you simply can't take an fps dip while zooming down a track at 300km/h+, or you'll end up as a twisted wreck. In the case of ProStreet it's even more important as the driving physics seem to be synced to the frame rate, so if the game stutters constantly, it becomes impossible to drive. This is probably also the underlying reason for numerous complaints about the ProStreet handling - in reality it handles fine as long as the fps figures stay constant."

OCZ ReaperX HPC DDR3 10666 2 x 1 GB Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 6:19 PM (EST)

"Overclocking the Reaper X was not as challenging as I had been expecting. With all of the sets in this review, I would run into hard walls that no amount of tinkering with voltages or sub-timings would let me past. The same was true here with the Reaper X HPC DDR3 1333. But the speed and latency that it happened at was much higher than I had experienced with the other test modules. Ultimately, I was able to get into Windows at 8-7-6-20 at 950MHz or DDR 1900. Not too shabby for a set of 1333MHz (667MHz) system memory. Unfortunately, that speed was unstable with the voltage used in this review and resulted in BSODs. Loosening the timings to 8-7-7-20 results in a successful boot into Windows at 470 x 7 with the memory at 940MHz. This represents an increase from the stock speeds of 274MHz. That's huge when it comes to overclocking potential."

Noctua NT-H1 Thermal Compound Review @ DragonSteelMods.com

"There are so many companies out there now making their own thermal compounds now, most every company that makes a CPU cooler now has their very own thermal compound to go with it. Well that's why there are sites like this one to help people make informed decisions by throughly testing these products and comparing them to the other leading brands out there.

I just reviewed the Noctua NH-U12P CPU cooler and with it came a small sample of their new NT-H1 thermal compound, they also sent me a full tube as well to test for review purposes. VisionTek Black Box HD3850 Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 4:01 PM (EST)

"The VisionTek HD3850 is a pre-overclocked card. As such, the expectation is that it will indeed perform better than the stock speed cards in this comparison. I'll be comparing this card against the Sapphire HD3850 and Diamond HD3850, as well as the Sapphire HD3870. I'm really curious to see how the VisionTek compares to the three of them. In addition to those ATI cards, I'll also be comparing it to the eVGA 8800GTS 640MB. Let's see how the VisionTek HD3850 stands up to all those cards."

Kingston 2x1GB HyperX PC3-13000 DDR3 Memory Review @ Virtual-Hideout

Posted by Nathan @ 4:01 PM (EST)

“If you are looking to make that jump to a DDR3 setup, then I would suggest investing in the Kingston KHX13000D3LLK2/2G kit, even if it's just for the simple fact that 1333MHz and above will surpass the performance of the top-of-the-line DDR2 modules currently out. The low latency of the KHX13000D3LLK2/2G kit will yield great efficiency, but don't expect massive overclocking at the stock timings; but then, who cares? It's a DDR3 module at 1625MHz!”

ATI HD 3850 256MB Videocard Review @ HardwareLogic.com

Posted by Nathan @ 4:00 PM (EST)

"Turbulent. Tumultuous. Bumpy. Disappointing. There's no shortage of unflattering adjectives to describe AMD's journey through 2007, including their graphics division, ATI. Purchased just over a year ago for roughly $5.4 billion, the acquisition's long-term verdict remains to be written. In the meantime, the short-term outlook hasn't been rosy up to this point, with ATI conceding defeat in the high end GPU arena and instead focusing primarily on the budget and lower mid-range sectors, much to the chagrin of the ATI-loyal. That's about to change.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, ATI still doesn't have an answer for nVidia's flagship 8800GTX and Ultra GPUs, but with the release of the RV670 core, they're no longer relegating themselves to the lower end graphics market, and seem to be targeting the upper mainstream market with a vengeance."

OCZ Freeze Thermal Interface Material Review @ Tweaktown

Posted by Nathan @ 3:59 PM (EST)

"Now comes a new material hot on the heels of a new breed of thermal interface material that is trying to knock off the industry leader from its high perch.

Other compounds we have recently tested have done quite well, so now the big question is if OCZ can add its name to the list of products that can trounce the popular Arctic Silver line."

HIS Radeon HD3850 IceQ3 TurboX Review @ Overclockercafe

Posted by Nathan @ 11:12 AM (EST)

Gameplay, image quality, silent operation are the keys to success and the HD3850 achieves these with a street price $200. I prefer to class products in categories of price. With this in mind, the HD3850 seems to be in a class by itself between the GeForce 8600 and the 8800 GT. This $200 sweet spot is where a lot of folks live with their upgrade dollar. A card with a half gig of video memory capable of playing Crysis smoothly at 90% max settings?
