Gigabyte G-Power 2 PRO Review @ XSReviews

Posted by Nathan @ 4:25 PM (EST)

"CPU cooling starts with the stock HSF you get with your new processor, but these are loud and poor at removing heat from the overclocked silicon beneath. As a result, the consumer demands more, and the manufactures provide; mostly in the form of tower coolers.

Today I have the hip-hop Gigabyte G-Power 2 Pro which features ‘atmospheric blue LED lighting’ and a 120mm fan. Lets see how it performs…"

Asus Triton 75 Heatsink Review @ Frostytech.com

Posted by Nathan @ 4:24 PM (EST)

"The fangs at each corner of the Triton 75 bring a smile to our intrepid engineers' face; pointy strips of aluminum dangle like a canines teeth over each Intel retention clip and lie in wait for unsuspecting fingers! Should we really expect anything different from the Asus Triton 75 heatsink though? With errant design elements that hamper the user experience and do nothing to improve thermal performance, the Asus Triton 75 is an example of what not to do. On top of that, the Triton 75 fails as a heatsink for processors with a 150W power rating. And yet, the Triton 75 is not a complete write off..."

Icrontic's EPIC Socket 775/AM2 Heatsink Roundup Part 2

"Put simply, the Noctua NH-U12P is a fantastic heatsink. It is a phenomenal performer on both LGA775 and AM2 platforms, is not overly large or heavy and has the best mounting system I have seen to date. The lower fin density of the NH-U12P means that it performs remarkably well with near-silent fans."

Asus EAH3870X2 1GB Top Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 4:21 PM (EST)

"The Asus EAH3870X2 differs from the standard ATI partner cards in a few different ways. First and formost is the cooling solution used by Asus. This is a far cry from the hair dryer models of the recent past (think 2900XT and 1900XTX). The cooling solution chosen by Asus uses the same style heatsink on each card instead of the separate copper and aluminum sinks used on the reference ATI design cards. Each heatsink on the Asus EAH3870X2 has a copper base and dual heatpipes leading to the fin assembly to cool down the GPUs. Each heatsink has its own individual fan so that each processor gets it own fresh air. This is in stark contrast to the blow through design used by ATI."

Over the course of the years, games have been growing progressively more complex. Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 8:27 PM (EST)

"400 x 10 at 1.325 volts for a first boot was a promising start to my overclocking adventure with the QX9770. 400 x 11 at 1.50 volts came easy as well but the required voltage was more than my poor water cooling setup could handle under load. At this level the stability was not there on the test system. It was stable enough to run Super Pi 1m and I was graced with the best score I have had to date. At that point I started hunting for a combination of FSB and multiplier that was acceptable for day to day use. 475 x 9 (4.3GHz) at 1.4625 volts ended up being the sweet spot for benchmarking and successfully completed our entire benchmark suite. For day to day operations, I settled on 455 x 9 (4.1GHz) at 1.395 volts. Hitting 4.0+GHz stable for everyday use makes for one e-ticket rig. Getting to the 475 FSB threshold required adjusting the northbridge voltage, FSB termination voltage, PLL volts, memory and southbridge voltages to gain stability. Getting to 4.0GHz on a Core 2 Extreme is the simple part. Getting more requires some work to make it happen. Keep the CPU temperature in check and the sky may be the limit. Of course your mileage may vary."

Thermalright Ultima 90 Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 11:11 PM (EST)

"How well did the Thermalright Ultima 90 actually do? On the Intel side, compared to the stock heatsink, the Ultima 90 won hands down. As per its other two competitors, both come equipped with 120mm fans that put out between 85 and 110 CFM, where the fan that I used only put out a max of 68 CFM. On the AMD side, while it was only compared to the ZeroTherm Nirvana and the stock heatsink, it performed just as well or better aside from idle temps while overclocked. The Ultima 90 is much lighter and compact than the Nirvana and the Tuniq tower, which to me is a plus since I always seem to cut my hands on the fins of the others."

"The Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme heatsink is a continuation of the Ultra-120 series, only with a little more muscle and a couple extra heatpipes. It's predecessor has remained at the top of Frostytech thermal test results for both AMD and Intel platforms basically since we tested it, so we're especially interested to see how the Ultra-120 Extreme model handles. Like the Ultra-120 that came before it, the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme applies fairly simple concepts to yield a well performing tower heatsink that doesn't have to generate much noise to get the job done."

PC Apex Review // Zalman ZM850-HP Power Supply

Posted by Nathan @ 10:00 PM (EST)

"Voiding the warranty on the PSU, I took off the top to get a look at the inside and the "Dual Heatpipe Cooling" design and all the other internals. The inside is nicely laid out with the output wiring bundled off to one side and two heatsinks running from front to back like most power supplies. However, unlike any other PSU I've seen, this unit boasts two copper heat pipes that run from the standard heatsinks to a pair of finned heatsinks right in front of the exhaust venting at the back of the unit. This design allows the heat disapating from the main heatsinks to travel along the copper piping, and out to the fins where the exhausting air from the fan will blow the heat out of the box thus keeping more heat away from the electrical parts in the power supply."

Tuniq TX-2 Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 9:57 PM (EST)

"A few degrees less for a few dollars less is how I would sum up Tuniq's TX-2 high performance thermal grease. It performed the best in all of the tests by a few degrees. A few degrees is significant to overclockers because we need to keep our temperatures down as low as possible to be able to overclock the furthest. Also, this TX-2 is a couple of dollars cheaper than Artic Cooling MX-2 and it performs better!"

AutumnWave OnAir GT (USB HDTV Tuner) @ Bjorn3D

Posted by Nathan @ 9:56 PM (EST)

A few months ago, I reviewed the VisionTek TV Wonder HD 650 PCIe. It is a great expansion card for desktop users but it has small limitation that it will only work with desktop. For the user who is always on the run or has committed to use their laptop as their primary PC, it is not an option. There is no shortage of TV tuners designed for laptop users from many desktop TV tuner manufactures. They come in different shapes and forms and connects through laptops via USB, ExpressCard, and PCMCIA. Despite the fact that the PCMCIA is quickly being phased out in laptops and is being replaced by the ExpressCard, you can still find some of these cards on the market specially for the old analog tuners. Whicheve card you choose ultimately depends on what expansion slots you have in your system.

Kingston MobileLite Card Reader @ ASE Labs

Posted by Nathan @ 9:56 PM (EST)

" The reader itself is not much bigger than a normal sized USB flash drive. Granted, the MobileLite can only handle SD and MMC (and its variants including micro and SDHC), there is much versatility in its use. Since it is hardly bigger than a normal flash drive, you can use it as one with no problem. Imagine keeping a mini-SD card in the slot and having the other slots free for other memory cards. This is a very handy device. "

ASRock ALiveDual-eSATA2 AMD Socket AM2 Motherboard Review @ OCInside

Posted by Nathan @ 7:27 PM (EST)

The ASRock ALiveDual-eSATA2 Socket AM2 motherboard is an exceptional board with AMD Phenom processor support. Well, Phenom support isn't unusual these days, but which current motherboard offers an AGP port? ASRock once again comes up with something special, because they make it possible for customers to upgrade their older systems more smoothly with less money. Thanks to the nVidia M1695 and nForce3 250 chipset combination, this board is able to manage an AGP 8x video card or a PCI Express 16x video card. Thus users can use their AGP card of the old PC and are able to upgrade it to a Socket AM2 or AM2+ processor without necessarily buying a new PCIe graphics card. This review will show if the performance can keep up with current systems and if this AGP/PCIe motherboard offers enough additional features and high overclocking results.

PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610W PSU Review @ XtremeComputing

Posted by Nathan @ 7:25 PM (EST)

"PC Power and cooling have been around since before I was born, and are one of the oldest and best PSU brands around. It was with their reputation ahead of them that I came to testing their new PSU, the silencer 610W EPS12v. Why EPS and not ATX? Well the EPS is a higher classification standard that ATX is heading towards anyway, it basically means it has to have a 24pin motherboard connector and 8pin 12v aux power to the board/CPU. Don't worry though as the Silencer is also ATX 12v compliant, so will work if you only have a 4pin aux 12v on your motherboard. Let's see what treat PCP&C have got for us then."

HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 TurboX Review @ Tweaktown

Posted by Nathan @ 7:24 PM (EST)

"It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything from HIS which is a bit of a shame as their IceQ series of cards have been one of the more stand-out models of ATI based graphics cards.

As we mentioned earlier, this particular model not only carries with it an aftermarket cooler but also increased core and memory clocks."

OtterBox for iPhone Defender Series Review @ OCIA.net

Posted by Nathan @ 7:24 PM (EST)

"OtterBox must have heard similar reactions from others, as they now have two distinct lines of cases for your valued electronics: The Armor Series, which is rugged to the extreme, and the Defender Series, labeled as "semi-rugged". Today we will be looking at the latter, in the OtterBox for iPhone Defender Series."
