Thermaltake ToughPower XT 750 Watt Power Supply @ Pro-Clockers

Posted by Nathan @ 7:28 PM (EDT)

The new Tough Power XT models are not going to replace the originals but to offers some nice features that are not part of the older models. The XT series boast a single and powerful 12 volt rail. Yes we know this is not revolutionary but they have also added the neat ability to determine how much time after PC shuts down that the fan stop spinning. If that isn't enough the XT also tells you if anything is ailing it. If all this is not enough then you have to read the rest of the review to see what else the XT has to offer.

OCZ 8gb CrossOver USB 2.0 Flash Drive @ TestFreaks

Posted by Nathan @ 7:28 PM (EDT)

" Yes, it’s yet another USB drive, it’s from our friends at OCZ, but this one is a bit different than your usual USB drive. It’s called the CrossOver, and the reason for the name is that it crosses two storage mediums together basically. The CrossOver I got for review is the 8gb version, but what makes it so special is the integrated card reader for microSD cards, this allows you to take 8gigs of storage with you and be able to read the microSD cards from your phone, media player etc. It truly is a useful little USB drive, though from my tests I’ve found that it’s not quite that fast… "

Different Brand Video Cards Change What You See in Games @ Legit Reviews

Posted by Nathan @ 7:27 PM (EDT)

"After some further research from the community it and on the test bench it appears that when running Enhanced Full Dynamic Lighting that the camo mesh is present on NVIDIA GeForce GTX 200 series graphics cards, but not on ATI Radeon 4000 series graphics cards. If the setting is changed to Enhanced Full Dynamic Lighting (DX10) on the ATI Radeon HD 4000 series of cards the camo mesh appears after the game is restarted. This is still interesting as it means that benchmarking ATI versus NVIDIA with the 'Enhanced Full Dynamic Lighting' setting doesn't matter much as the cards will be rendering different objects in various parts of the game and this could impact the frame rate as the render path is not identical..."

ATI Radeon HD 4890 & NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 @ Techgage.com

Posted by Nathan @ 7:26 PM (EDT)

It's not often we get to take two brand-new GPUs and pit them against each other in one launch article, but that's what we're doing with ATI's HD 4890 and NVIDIA's GTX 275. Both cards are priced at $249, and both also happen to offer great performance and insane overclocking-ability. So coupled with those and other factors, who comes out on top?

Mushkin HP3-12800 DDR3 @ Bjorn3D

Posted by Nathan @ 7:26 PM (EDT)

There is no better choice than the new Intel Core i7 platform. While it may be a little more pricier than AMD's offerings, the Core i7 packs a lot more punch. To complete that punch you will need a triple channel kit of RAM. What better kit of RAM to get than a Mushkin HP3-12800? This kit is aimed at the mid range system builder, with a speed of 1600 MHz. While not the fastest DDR3 out there, it is the perfect blend of speed and price to keep you from breaking your wallet in half. Another nice feature of this RAM is its ability to run on only 1.5 volts, which should help out on the power bill even more. That is, unless you plan on overclocking it. With overclocking results of Mushkin RAM of the past, there is no doubt these sticks will overclock quite nicely.

So what can we expect from the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610W PSU? Seagate Momentus 7200.3 320GB Notebook Hard Drive @ Legit Reviews

Posted by Nathan @ 5:31 PM (EDT)

"The Seagate Momentus 7200.3 320GB notebook hard drive didn't disappoint and was much faster than the 200GB hard drive from the 7200.2 series. Not only was it faster, the drive is also more resilient as it has a shock tolerance of 350g @ 2ms. This shock tolerance is 17% better than the 300g @ 2ms found on the 7200.2 series. If you are hard on your notebook you might want to search for a drive with G-Force Protection as it will increase your chances of not losing data in the case that your notebook is dropped. This is made possible due to an optional drop sensor that senses when the system is in a free-fall state, moving the heads off the platter and locking them in place-all within three-tenths of a second. This is a pretty neat little feature that not many people know about, so if you are upgrading an old hard drive it is something to look into if you like trying out new things..."

MSI 790GX-G65 AM3 Motherboard Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 3:10 AM (EDT)

"Well, when it comes down to the wire, apples to apples, the DDR3 memory support does give the AM3 processors a bit of a lead. In just about every test there was an increase when using a 790GX based board with DDR3 memory support over DDR2 memory support. If you are in the market for a new system, then I highly suggest going the AM3 route. However, in my opinion, if you are already running a strong DDR2 based AMD system, then the cost does not justify the minimal increases that you will currently get. All of that aside the MSI 790GX-G65 is a rock solid board with great features that will make any enthusiast smile. The overclocking on this board was very easy and has been one of the stablest I have seen with minimal tweaking. That suffix means that this is CPU with lower power consumption or smaller TDP (Thermal Design Power)…”

Honeywell Airlite 740 @ Bjorn3D

Posted by Nathan @ 5:19 PM (EDT)

If you are anything like me, you get tired of having a weight hanging off of your ear all day long in the form of a Bluetooth headset. While a Bluetooth headset is a definite improvement over the days-gone-by technology of wired headsets, it can become uncomfortable over time. It used to be that by the time I got home at the end of the day my ear would hurt from having the headset on all day.

Cooler Master V10 CPU Heatsink Review @ Virtual-Hideout

Posted by Nathan @ 3:06 PM (EDT)

“Cooler Master, one of the staff favorites here at Virtual-Hideout, to say the least. On the block today is the middle child in their family of high-end, automotive themed heatsinks. Offering a potential extra 20 watts of dissipation over the former champion V8, thanks to the inclusion of a Thermoelectric module and extra heatsink mass, the V10 promises to the be the premier item in the cooling market for the time being. The question then, is if the extra cost over the V8 is worthwhile, and if the inclusion of a TEC will be another rendition of gimmick flair - much like the Titan Amanda, or Ultra Chillitec - or if the V10 will actually keep things nice and chilly. Let's take a look.”

Cooler Master Sileo 500 Silent Mid-Tower Chassis Review @ Overclockers Online

Posted by Nathan @ 3:05 PM (EDT)

In working with the Cooler Master Sileo 500, I was utterly blown away by how well the sound dampening material works. Being the defining feature of this case, I can attest to the fact that the sound dampening material really sets this case apart from other cases I have worked with. In terms of other features, the Sileo 500 is your typical mid-tower case. With a minimalistic design, its elegance will appeal to everyone. The tool-less drive bays, simple hard drive mounts and tool-less expansion slots are great and make installation very quick and easy.

OCZ Gladiator Max CPU Cooler (OCZTGLADM) Review @ XtremeComputing

Posted by Nathan @ 3:05 PM (EDT)

"Gone are the dimples that were pressed into the fins in the previous Vendetta coolers, this time the fins are plain and smooth. Rather strangely the aluminium base around the heatpipes has 6 columns that extend up and have three fins attached to them. I can only assume this is to give more supporting structure to the cooler as I doubt it would make much difference in temperatures."

Coolit Domino Advanced Liquid Cooling System Review @ Motherboards.org

Posted by Nathan @ 3:04 PM (EDT)

The CoolIT Domino ALC CPU cooler is an excellent self-contained liquid cooling system for the CPUs. While a temperature of 58C is not the lowest temperature I've observed, it was also taken on a system running one of the hotter CPUs on the market, the QX9770. The other thing is the system was 100% stable at a clock speed of 4.4GHz while the Domino was installed. The unit runs for a very reasonable price of $79 which is virtually unheard of for a liquid cooled CPU cooler. Installation and setup couldn't be easier. I have to say that the Domino ALC cooler does the job that CoolIT designed it for very well, and is well worth the purchase as it comes with everything needed for the latest CPU interfaces including the LGA-1366.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 Processor Review @ Legit Reviews

Posted by Nathan @ 3:03 PM (EDT)

"With four processing cores running at 2.66GHz, a total of 6MB of shared L2 cache, a 1333MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) and the fact that the processor is built on the 45nm process are all great reasons to think about getting a Q9400. Add to that a 1.2GHz overclock that was easy to reach and you have yet another winner from Intel. If you don't want to go with an Intel Core i7 series processor, the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9XX's series of processors are good choices as they cost less and can still compete..."

Socket 1366 Cooler Roundup (March 2009) @ Driverheaven

Posted by Nathan @ 3:02 PM (EDT)

In October last year Intel released processors based on the socket 1366 architecture and with these came a requirement for redesigned heatsink install methods. Essentially the distance between corners of the heatsink increased (as did the processor footprint) and existing high end coolers were no longer compatible with new motherboards.
