"We've all fired up RivaTuner, ATITool, and nTune to squeeze out a little more performance out of our videocards, but is there an easier way? Asus thinks so, and they've made overclocking their EN8600GT as easy as turning a dial. Join HardwareLogic as we take 'er for a spin...literally." |

"With the latest designs, many motherboard manufacturers have started producing boards with chipset/mosfet heatsinks onboard, linked together with heatpipes. The HR-09 mosfet cooler was designed for those users with motherboards that either have an ineffective stock chipset/mosfet cooling system, or that don't have one at all." |

"Being a graphics card maker, there is one area that NVIDIA has a leg up, that being the IGP market. For the basic home PC and office workstation, IGP based boards really do have a home. Even for a Digital Home PC that does nothing but play movies and record TV programs, integrated graphics is perfect as there is no need to add in extra expansive hardware. |

XFX is first out of the gates with the latest gunslinger for the NVIDIA family, the all new XFX Alpha Dog XXX 8800GT 256MB Edition card. This card is priced at the same level as the ATI 3870 and is rumored to be thee card to have in the $200.00 price range. NVIDIA will be really making a dent in ATI’s sales if this card is as hot as they, but will availability like the 8800GT 512MB be an issue? We are the first in the world to see this card and couldn't wait to get this card onto a test bench and see what is really up with this new introduction into NVIDIA’s mid level lineup. Based on the new G92 chipset supporting PCIe 2.0 this card sports 256MB OF G-DDR3 sizes in at 9” and draws 105W of power. Lets take a look at what the card look likes and what it is made of. NVIDIA may just have another winner of a card in the form of this latest release. |

"NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (G92) 512MB PCI-E demonstrates phenomenal results almost in all tests. We've never seen a cheaper card outperforming more expensive products still available in stores. NVIDIA has done an impossible thing: it "killed" the 8800GTS (both modifications) and the 8800GTX with one stone." |

Intel 45nm Yorkfield Runs On 975X Motherboard @ HotHardware.com |
Posted by Nathan @ 5:42 PM (EST) |
We've gotten more than a few inquiries from readers, since we launched our Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (aka Yorkfield) article, about whether or not the new 45nm quad-core chip from Intel will play nice in legacy motherboards. The party line from Intel is that while technically, Yorkfield quad-core processors are not supported by chipsets like the 975X and P965, some motherboard manufacturers may choose to validate and support the product. |

"The Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 case comes with four 120mm fans pre-installed inside of the case. Two of these fans are mounted on the top of the case, which will blow the hot air that rises to the top of the case out of the case quickly. There is also a 120mm fan mounted on the rear of the case, above the I/O panel, that also blows more of the hot air out of the case. The placement of these fans seems like a great spot due to the fact that the CPU heatsink will be placed nearby. There is also a fourth fan that is located on the bottom of the case and is sucking cool fresh air into the case, but has its own special housing. The best feature of these fans is the fact that they are silent, operating at an advertised 17 dBA, while still running at 1,200 RPM." |

Back in September, 2007 we reviewed the ABS-Tagan TG1300-U33 ITZ 1300 Watt power supply and found it to be one of the best of the new generation of high-output power supplies. Our only functional concern with the ITZ 1300 was that it did not use a modular design. Modularity in power supplies has become extremely important to computer enthusiasts as it allows them to only use the wiring necessary to facilitate their system's operation. As one might expect, modular cabling further aids in the efficient management of your cables as it can vastly decrease that mass of extra wires that you have to deal with in the top/bottom of your case. |
Gaming Heaven Review: Company Of Heroes Opposing Fronts (PC Expansion) |
Posted by Nathan @ 5:40 PM (EST) |
Ah, the expansion pack. Time was, you would rush out to your local game emporium to pick up an extra chunk of your favourite game, only to find you'd bought a couple of poorly-executed extra missions and a single new character/weapon/background texture. Thankfully, these days we ask for a little bit more for our hard-earned cash. Relic have been excelling themselves of late, not only producing varied expansion packs for Dawn of War, but also making them stand-alone so that any gamer new to the series can get stuck in, without having to shell out for the original. So, how does Company of Heroes:Opposing Fronts (or COH:OF as I shall lazily call it) stack up? |

"Some time ago, ASUS announced their plans to enter the sound card market, with models targeting primarily gamers. This information was received with a solid amount of skepticism, as we could seldom see anyone who thought that a fresh sound card could beat Creative X-Fi models. In order to accomplish this task, the product itself has to be up to par, and read on to see whether it is." |

If you havent played the family celebration tapes for years you may be in for a rude awakening. The magnetic film may have aged, turned black and the images disappeared. The coating may mysteriously peel away or flake off when the tape is played. |

Well, what Aerocool would like for you to take interest in is their cooler for the Core2 processor titled Silverwind. The Silverwind has a style and shape to it that is kind of unique compared to a lot of current coolers on the block. The extrusion heatsink as Aerocool calls it pulls air down thru the middle of the cooler into an inner set of fins. And then the air………wait you have to click on some more pages before I spill the beans. |

Sunbeam's Mini Plant is a wolf in sheep's clothing. The PSU comes in an ATX standard sized casing but offers up to 950W of power. With most other manufacturers this means that the PSU fan will be very loud, not with the Mini Plant. Actually the fan is the quietest we ever tested in the 900W+ segment, you can almost not hear it, even under load. |

"Those with a knack for tinkering under the hood will be disappointed with the game. The sole tweak available is a selection between "Road" and "Off-Road" tire choice. This falls in line with the handling, which is typical arcade rally fare: cars turn on a pivot, a vertical axis through the center of the vehicle. Courses are lined with invisible barriers, through which cars can't pass. In other words, it's impossible for even the worst of drivers to go off course, which can make for some amusing and miraculous crash recoveries (incidentally, cars are unable to get completely inverted, regardless of the severity and velocity of an impact)." |

"Now on to the bread and butter, the actual Ultra Aluminum Hard Drive Cooler. The cooler has a nice blue hue to it and has many fins along the top plate of the cooler. Also, the heatpipes that go across the cooler are on both sides, allowing for thermal transfer between the two sides themselves. Finally, if you look closely at the screws holding the top plate down, you can see small springs. These springs are there to ensure that the top plate of the cooler makes firm contact with the top of the drive once it is installed." |

The year 2007 probably will be viewed as the year that people really got their eye up on the whole environmental issue, regardless if you believe in our impending doom or not. No one can deny that wasting energy is not exactly a good thing and if you, like me, live in a country where electricity comes at quite a high price you would want to keep the power usage down. Unfortunately it still seems that the price to pay for being at the technological bloody edge is that you consume electricity at the same rate as a small third-world nation. |

NZXT Rogue Ultimate Gaming SFF Chassis Review @ Virtual-Hideout |

What is there not to like about the XFX XXX Alpha Dog 8800GT? Absolutely nothing a great big old zero as this card rocks in every way. The 8800 Ultra is priced at almost twice that of the GT, and the GT is almost as fast and even faster in some instances than the Ultra. NVIDIA has done something which most companies would avoid like the plague, that is make a cheaper and faster product than their highest priced card, that essentially put the Ultra on the road to EOL (End Of Life). The XFX XXX Alpha Dog Edition is one of the fastest 8800GT cards you can get out of a retail box; it's priced well below the 8800 Ultra and offers a performance ratio that outweighs its current price by a wide margin. |

"The P3200 performed very well in the Sensitivity test. The range and movement of the analog sticks was very accurate. The feel of the controller during action was smooth and steady. In Airborne, navigating the skies with my parachute was effortless and when I landed, I had no trouble traversing the streets of Europe. The Cyborg Rumble took top prize in this category because of its Precision Mode; this feature allows the user to tighten the sensitivity of the analog sticks with the push of a button, making sniping your enemies easier and more accurate. All of the gamepads felt extremely nice while playing Combat Flight Simulator 3. The large variety of rumble forces featured in this game were enjoyable, from the steady rumble of your engines, to the quick bursts while using your guns, to the deep rumble felt from G-forces when banking and maneuvering during battle." |

It's been a while since the mid-range G84 hit the market. To be frank, after testing this card I had my doubts of its hierarchy in the community. Regardless the class, these cards along with entry level ones are the actual dough makers (do not confuse it with kitchen dough). High-end and enthusiast products are just a loose change, however they play a very important role in the market. Prestige and respect among (pardon the term) fanciers. |

One thing that can always make a computer operate like a new machine is memory. If you've ever used your system with the bare minimum amounts of memory or just enough to get the job done, then you've held your system back and probably noticed lots of lag. Plenty of system memory means your machine will perform much smoother with little or no lag. This is especially true with today's Windows XP Pro or Vista running these huge new games like Crysis and Call of Duty 4. The larger the data amount, the quicker the access and read times seem due to the extra memory.” |

"Getting the power supply freed from the packaging shows a gun metal grey powder coated finish on the case, with black sleeved main lines. The finish is done well, and even after a few screwdriver bites while removing the cover, there were no scratches to be seen in the powder coat finish. This is a big plus of powder coating over painting. The inlet side of the power supply is completely vented to promote airflow. Along the bottom of the power supply front are the 5 plugs for the component cables. All cabling is justified to the right to enable better cable routing against the back side of your case. Around back is the 80mm low speed ADDA fan that varies speed in response to load and temp conditions. The specification sticker graces the left side of the power supply showing the max current on each of the rails. Antec uses three +12V lines rated at 19A each to balance the current draw." |

Thermaltake Matrix VX Mid Tower PC Case Review @ DragonSteelMods.com |

Stiff as a board, light as a feather, stiff as a board, light as a feather..." Ever play that game when you were a kid? I didn't, but I've always wanted too... When I got the Thermaltake Matrix VX from the UPS guy I wasn't sure there was anything in the box, this case is the lightest case I have ever had the pleasure of reviewing. The fact that it's light doesn't mean it's not sturdy, it really is, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and construction of this PC case. |

The ability to hear is the ability to experience the world around us in a manner that none of our other senses can give us. Sound is what lets us know when an unseen object is nearby or far away. Sound is what tells us when someone is angry or upset. It conveys emotion and helps us develop a sense of space. Sound lets us know when we are in a cavernous hall or a cramped room. Without sound the world around us becomes empty. For years when it came to producing sound on a computer there was one company above all, Creative Technology. With their supremacy over the sound card market it would be an uphill battle for any company to offer a competing product. Then Vista came along and changed the rules. Now with a even playing field manufactures have started to offer their own brand of sound card. And thus I present to you a sound card from a company known for high quality product, the Xonar D2 and Xonar U1 Sound Station. Two products for two very different purposes. |

It'll take a bit of experimenting and experience before you find out which perks and which weapons work for your playing style. If you keep getting stabbed in the back by some sneaky player, or lose a lot of close encounters, consider picking the Martyrdom perk. It'll make you drop a live grenade every time you die, and you'll probably take one or more enemies down with you. Of course, a cheeky sneak will just grab your grenade and toss it at your mates anyway." |

Silverstone Kublai Series KL01 Case Review @ ThinkComputers.org |
Posted by Nathan @ 5:58 AM (EST) |
“Out of all of the cases I've had, I don't have to stop and think which one was my favorite. Hands down, the case I liked the most was a Silverstone Temjin TJ-05, the original model. It is big and beautiful, and I used words in my review like elegant and regal about it. It was the first large case I owned, the first with twin 120mm fans, the first that would hold more than three hard drives (it will hold seven), and a few other firsts for me. I still like it today as much as I did in 2003 when I reviewed it. I have had three different rigs in it, and I will undoubtedly use it again someday, unlike the other 6 or so unused cases that accompany it in my shed. So it stands that I feel Silverstone builds a fine case, along with their other fine products, which includes enclosures, power supplies, and cooling solutions. Will the KL01 live up to my expectations for quality and innovation? We'll see.” |

Antec Performance One P182 and P190 Cases: A Visual Review @ circuitREMIX |

A case is an important component of any computer system. It houses all the components, and thus can affect the performance of all of them. With so many high powered components prevalent in the average enthusiast's systems today, a good case has to offer sufficient cooling and proper design to allow for the highest levels of compatibility and stability. Antec is a company that has a reputation of fulfilling these requirements with their cases. Today we are going to be taking a look at two Antec cases, the P182 and the P190. Both of these cases are from the Antec Performance One series of cases. These are targeted towards high end users who want a high quality case with excellent noise and thermal properties. |

Even though Crysis looks like a beefed-up FarCry on the surface, there's a lot going on here. If you have the system to run it, I would recommend at least checking out the demo to see if this title grabs you. I didn't expect it to grab me, as I wasn't a huge FarCry fan, but I was pleasantly surprised. Crytek has done a great job here, and has produced a very impressive game world that manages to be fun to play in. Crytek fans will want to check out the collector's edition as well, although the cost will be $10 more. |

"The front of the box is where the magic really begins. Now we can see that VGA is printed down the left side but it doesn’t exactly stand out. Of course Blue Ray Decoder Card is what you see initially. |

Although the Diamond HD 3870 512MB G-DDR4 is not the NVIDIA killer that it was rumored to be it is still a very good card that performs well enough and is priced well enough to still be a viable VGA solution in the mid range market. The card performed flawlessly in Windows Vista and played every game we use without error at resolutions of up to 1680X1050, even with the features set to maximum. There are a few 24’’ and larger monitors that do higher resolutions, but the user who buys that has the money to also buy a card to go with that pricey monitor. Priced at around $219.00 US, it is at the moment lower than an 8800GT the card from NVIDIA at which it is priced to compete with. |

Thumb drives are a dime a dozen, so to help sell their 8GB DataTraveler II+, Kingston added a little software tool from the folks at Migo. Their software enables the user to carry their desktop to another computer and then back again. But, is this special functionality worth the premium? |

"After completing all the benchmarks in the suite, I can only arrive to one conclusion, the Intel Core 2 quad-core QX9650 performs. To date it has produced the highest scores out of any processor I have used or reviewed. I like the fact that even overclocked and on air cooling, my CPU temperatures did not go above 49 degrees Celsius at 100% load and that’s even with ambient room temperatures of 78 to 80 Fahrenheit or 23 to 26 degrees Celsius!" |

"We’ve got three 8800GTs on hand at the labs of TweakTown which would probably give us more 8800GTs than any retail shop has seen. To say supply on the 8800GT is pretty poor would be an understatement. |

This card is based on the same basic board design as the Radeon HD 2900 lineup for gamers, but it is tweaked on both the hardware and software level for enhanced workstation performance. The card is the least costly of ATI’s FireGL lineup based on the R600 GPU, and currently retails for just south of $1,000. |

The Ultra m998 shows us that classic good looks never die. Ultra Products has done an amazing job of updating a truly great case. They had the sense to keep what works while updating with extras and innovation where need be. The Ultra Power Bar is in no small measure a bonus to the m998 case. |

"CoolerMaster has come up with some very unique and target-based products through the years. Some of those unique items include enclosures and extremely large, over-the-top type enclosures. The CoolerMaster Cosmos 1000 is one of those enclosures. The Cosmos 1000 is large enough to house the family pet or that pesky mother-in-law of yours. Constructed from aluminum and steel, this unit is stronger and lighter than an all-steel unit. Some of the unique features include sound-deadening foam on the side panels, a removable rack-style hard drive tray, a new push button tool-less clip, and a host of other stylish features.” |

“We have taken a look at a few Lowepro bags in the past. They have been combination bags being able to carry a D-SLR camera and a laptop. We all know Lowepro makes some of the best bags for cameras, but what about for laptops. The combination bags we checked out really worked well, but can Lowepro make a standout laptop bag? The Slim Factor is one of Lowepro's newest laptop bags, let's see if it can set itself apart from other laptop bags.” |

Gigabyte recently announced its new G-Power 2 Pro CPU heatsink which adds additional airflow to the CPU Mosfets. This airflow helps to provide additional cooling for those Mosfets, making it easier for the motherboard to provide stable power for hungry CPUs. The G-Power 2 Pro has some nice features, including a very quiet 120mm fan. |

All thermal paste is relatively the same, and as long as you use something between your processor and heatsink (besides a thermal pad) you're good. |

"By far the most exciting missions are delivered by the air races, from the classic Reno Air Race to the newer (and equally dangerous) Red Bull Air Race events. The timed Red Bull races, flown in nimble Extra 300 craft, use a point scoring system as pilots manoeuvre through pylon-delineated courses close to the ground in urban environments. These events are strictly for expert pilots, as the required acrobatic manoeuvres require hours of practice." |

"The heatsink itself is very thin and has brackets for two fans, with one already in use by the stock fan. The four heatpipe configuration can be seen in the top down view of the heatsink, which is the most unique part, along with the two fans, about this cooler. The fins are separated by a couple of millimeters, as is standard with most heatsinks. On the top fan bracket, CoolerMaster can be seen elegantly inscribed, which is a nice addition if you like to show off your computer's internals. The included fan has a 3-pin power connector that is used by plugging it into your motherboard's fan header. There was no 3-pin-to-molex adapter provided, but those are easily obtainable, although it would have been a nice addition." |
