Acoustibuds Earphone Adapters @ OCModShop

Posted by Nathan @ 3:34 PM (EDT)

Acoustibuds are add-on silicone adapters that can be slipped over generic earbuds. Not only does it prevent your earbuds from slipping out, but it makes them more comfortable, too. Regular earbuds are "one size fits all" and remain snug by pushing your ear's cartlidge around hard plastic. After a while, your ears start to hurt. With Acoustibuds, the hard plastic is out of your ear, and replaced with a soft, rubbery silicone canal with fins.

CPU3D Article: How to turn your Geforce 9800GTX+ into a GTS 250

Posted by Nathan @ 3:33 PM (EDT)

When I first heard about this story a few weeks ago, I was very intrigued. Can this be true? Can you really just flash an old Geforce 9800GTX+ and turn it into a Geforce GTS 250? It just seems too good to be true. So I investigated. We foraged through our office for a Geforce 9800GTX+ ... and luckily, we found one from Palit. The next step is to flash the Geforce 9800GTX+ with a generic GTS 250 BIOS ... a task not for the faint-hearted.

Pioneer DVR-X162Q Qflix External DVD/CD Writer Reviewed @ TestFreaks

"Today I’ve got the Pioneer DVR-X162Q Qflix Enabled External DVD/CD Writer for review and from my time with it, and comparing it to two other external drives, I’ve found it’s a very fast drive. As for the Qfilx part of it, Qflix is something that only a few drives have on them, it’s special feature that works in conjunction with CinemaNow and Roxio Venue to allow you to purchase, download and burn movies to DVD, something I think is a very nice feature, especially if you watch a lot of movies as I do. Thermaltake Toughpower XT 850W Power Supply Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 3:32 PM (EDT)

"The Thermaltake Toughpower XT 850W performed flawlessly from start to finish. The DC voltage load regulation is excellent and the efficiency amongst the highest I have tested and fully deserving of the 80 Plus Bronze certification. This Thermaltake Toughpower XT 850W carries the AMD Game Ready and ATI Crossfire X Technology logos. The only information I can find on AMD Game Ready is a minimum PC specification (Athlon X2 5600, ATI Radeon HD3650, AMD 770 or Nvidia nForce 500 chipset & 2GB DDR2 memory) to meet before it can carry the logo but with the wide variety of different manufacturers producing these parts does this certification really mean anything?."

CPU3D Review: Seasonic M12D 850W Modular PSU

Posted by Nathan @ 8:02 PM (EDT)

The Seasonic M12D certainly looks good, and should perform with excellent results in our tests. The modular cable management will appeal to a lot of users who hate excess/redundant cables, and . Having said that, my only concern is price ... Seasonic power supplies do not come cheap. They are regarded in the industry as the "creme de la creme" when it comes to power supplies. So, my question is ... can Seasonic compete against the more glamourous brand names like Corsair, Coolermaster, OCZ, Thermaltake and many others.

Cooler Master ThermalFusion 400 Thermal Paste Review @ OCIA.net

Posted by Nathan @ 8:00 PM (EDT)

"While it may be difficult to get excited over a thermal paste, especially when there is a seeming myriad of different brands and types available, it is a necessary and often overlooked commodity. Cooler Master's new ThermalFusion 400 arrived in this plastic blister pack, unusual packaging for thermal paste. Included with the paste is an applicator, the first I've ever seen included with any brand interface material. This is a welcome addition, as it is common for thermal paste makers to give instruction to spread the product around without actually touching it or the surfaces to be covered. The thermal paste itself is in the typical syringe type container with plunger to control the amount of product released."

Sunbeam Automation Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 8:00 PM (EDT)

"The Sunbeam Automaton case has a few different features that are going to help it stand out from its competition, the first of which is the side window. This viewing window only covers about 40% of the side panel and is shaped in a way that flows very well with the curves of the case, along with the overall feel of the case. The other main difference between the Automaton case and other cases on the market that have side panel windows, is the fact that there is a window on both sides, not just the side that you are going to use to access the innards of your case. This can be either a nice addition or a negative one, as you will have to be more cautious of where you hide your cables to make sure that they are not visible (if that is the look you are going for). There is also a place to mount a fan on both sides of the case, though it only comes with one pre-installed."

Icy Dock MB881US-1S-1 External Hard Drive Docking Station Reviews @ Tweaknews

"The stand in particular turned out to be more rugged than I initially thought it would be. "Today we're looking at the Kingston DataTraveler 64GB flash drive, and to prove or dispel the notion that high capacity drives are slow, we're going to pit it against a popular and fast, smaller capacity flash drive. Inspired by Newton's proof that heavier objects do not fall faster to the ground than lighter ones, we're not convinced that large capacity flash drives transfer files slower than smaller drives. Cooler Master Hyper N520 CPU Cooler Review @ Bigbruin.com

Posted by Nathan @ 6:27 PM (EDT)

Overall, the cooler seems to be well made and so far the design intrigues me. The more compact size might be good for HTPCs or other computers with side panel fans that interfere with larger heatpipe towers. I just hope that the two 'smaller' fans can compete with the noise level and cooling performance of a 120mm unit.

Antec 900 2 Gaming Case @ Bjorn3D

Posted by Nathan @ 6:27 PM (EDT)

When companies are making cases designed for gamers they tend to generally stick to three main ideas. These three things are lights, airflow, and versatility. Gamers often times have massive graphics cards that they need to fit into cases and even sometimes have up to three of these 10.5' long cards crammed into their case. Lights are there to look pretty and keep the owner happy in the sense that they can say, 'Woo, pretty lights'. Along with those pretty lights, airflow is extremely important because of the amount of hardware and the amount of heat that hardware makes. That hot air needs to be moved out of the case in order to keep the temperatures within reasonable operating limits.

We've been noticing a fluctuation on the playing field of memory and Kingston has been scoring the touchdowns right and left with their HyperX lineup. We've been keeping a close eye on the different triple channel kits available for Core i7 machines and the bandwidth has been amazing. Kingston's line of HyperX and the new Kingston T1 heatspreader have been right there at the forefront of triple channel memory technology. Providing blazing speed and massive bandwidth, and looking good doing it, the Kingston HyperX T1 1866 we have to look at today just performs better than an 1866 MHz kit of triple channel should. Easily outdistancing kits rated to run at the same speed or faster it awed and amazed us.

Vizio VSB210WS Soundbar Review @ Digital Trends

Posted by Nathan @ 6:25 PM (EDT)

"Everything's high definition now - from TVs to women's make-up (no kidding). HDTVs have been around for a decade, and now manufacturers are pushing high-def sound big time, too. We've always been fans of true 5.1-speaker surround sound systems, but they're expensive and a hassle to install. That's why most people (over 60 percent, according to surveys) use built-in television speakers alone for shows and movies. A good middle ground are "sound bars," which are basically thin, narrow rectangles that fit neatly under flat-panel HDTVs. Pioneered by Yamaha, this single component has built-in amps, speakers and DSP circuitry to create a 5.1-system feel without the need to run wires everywhere, or break the bank. Top flat-panel seller Vizio is now branching out with its first sound bar. Is it high-definition sound? Let's settle in and find out."

CoolerMaster CSX Stacker 830 Red Flame Edition Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 6:24 PM (EDT)

"The first thing that stands out on this case are the beautiful graphics, that really have to be seen in person to get a grip on just how nice they really are. Pictures alone do not do it justice; the paintwork is smooth and flawless on top of the Cooler Master chassis. The artwork does not just cover one side and the front, but the theme wraps around the whole case - including the top sides and front. The front side shows the flaming skull the case is named for, along with the CSX logo and unit number - 56 - of this case in the series of 400. The rear is much like that of the stock RC 830 chassis. A single 120mm fan and the power supply are the only means for exhausting air out of the chassis."

Spire TherMax II CPU Cooler @ Bjorn3D

A CPU is at the heart of every computer, laptops and desktops alike, and although the solutions may be different, everyone of those CPU's has some sort of cooling device on it. As you enter the enthusiast and gamer cooling markets, the solutions perform better, tend to be bigger and louder, and most often look cool.

Best CPU Cooler Performance LGA1366 - Q1 2009 @ BmR

Posted by Nathan @ 6:51 PM (EDT)

Throughout all of 2008, I made it my mission to test every high-performance CPU cooler that Benchmark Reviews received. The Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors did their part to separate the cream of the crop from our large collection of LGA775 coolers. In our previous Best CPU Cooler Performance article, Benchmark Reviews retired the LGA775 platform from its testing duties and made room for the up-and-coming LGA1366 socket. It didn't take long to collect several CPU coolers designed for the Intel Core i7 CPU & X58 platform. This Best CPU Cooler Performance LGA1366 - Q1 2009 article focuses on a ! wide selection of performance-cooling products for overclockers. It's a mistake to think that any LGA775 cooler can do just as well with the new LGA1366/Core i7 platform; primarily because the size and location of processor cores has changed.

Cooler Master V10 Hybrid Heatpipe/T.E.C. CPU Cooler Review @ Tweaknews

Posted by Nathan @ 12:42 PM (EDT)

Cooler Master's V10 is impressive in many respects. Size and stature are reassuringly large, but fitment may be an issue for some motherboards and cases. The engineering innovation and design are quite nice, as is the fit and finish. Unfortunately, the high cost and potentially troublesome installation leave something to be desired. Frankly, there are better performing coolers out there that are half the price, easier to install and perform just as well. This is going to be a tough sell for Cooler Master.

In Win NA 3.5" External HDD Enclosure Review @ Virtual-Hideout

Posted by Nathan @ 12:39 PM (EDT)

“When I first saw the In Win NA at CES, my first impression was somewhere between intrigue and confusion. At a distance, you couldn't tell what it was exactly. But, it had to be something tech related being that it was CES. Sitting there on the table was what appeared to be a white porcelain storage container of sorts. It was the small white button and wire cut outs that suggested it was more than just any container, but a hard drive enclosure. At first glance, even my wife wondered what motivation was behind such a concept. And, she wondered what makes it so different from the countless other enclosures that have been on the test bench. Once it was assembled and set in the perfect spot on the desk, it suddenly revealed its value and purpose. “

Up until recently, if you really wanted a lot of desktop real estate, but didn't want to spend a small fortune to get it, the most economical choice was to run dual monitors. When it comes to the components, you first need to examine what your use for this computer will be. Some may be building a brand new system, but you may be constrained by using spare parts you already own and coupling them with a few new ones to complete the system. Keep in mind you might be limited in functionality depending on the components you choose. Some of the typical uses of an HTPC are listed below, and depending on your needs this will greatly affect the cost and components of your project."

NZXT Avatar Gaming Mouse @ Viper Lair

Posted by Nathan @ 4:30 AM (EDT)

"As for making a difference in my game play, the answer is a yes* with a * for me. While I understood the reasoning for gaming mice, I never really thought much about it as I never really considered myself a serious gamer. That changed the last 18 months as I have been pretty much a regular Call of Duty 4 gamer, and as of late, I took competition a little more seriously. What this essentially means is that any sort of edge I could find, I would at least give it a try. From PC upgrades to a change in Internet provider, the last issues I seemed to have were my input devices. As I had been using the Microsoft Wireless Desktop 7000 for a while, one issue I have always had was the freezing (where my wireless connection would drop) on occasion. With the NZXT Avatar, this problem was obviously gone (I also replaced my keyboard with a corded one). "

Whether or not the economic recession is here or if your current 27" CRT TV just died on you like mine, you may be in the market for an affordable TV that offers a little more than just the basics. The Samsung A630 is just that. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the 750, 850 or 950 series but it doesn't cut any corners on the basics to keep the prices down.

Seeing this need, they sought to correct this problem, by creating a “Super Tower” case. The case to solve the growing need for more space comes to us in the form of the Thermaltake Xaser VI Super Tower case."

AMD Phenom II X4 810 @ InsideHW

Posted by Nathan @ 4:27 AM (EDT)

“Whenever is new generation of CPUs presented, either by Intel or by AMD, besides high-end models always are presented models for users that don’t demand top-performance levels. There are various ways to “slow down” existing high-end core. One of those is “partial amputation” of L2 or L3 cache memory, or “total amputation” of one or more cores. In most cases faulty segments of CPU are disabled although in some cases this isn’t the case. Sometimes manufacturer disables perfectly operational segments of CPU so demands for such CPUs can be met. This means that even if you bought triple-core CPU, it doesn’t imply that you got 75% of fully functional quad-core. Same goes for L3 cache…”

OCZ 6GB PC3-12800 Platinum DDR3 Triple Channel Memory Kit Review @ Hardware Canucks

Posted by Nathan @ 4:27 AM (EDT)

While this low latency kit has impressive specifications, it is its admirably low price that draws our attention. This memory kit retails for as low as $150CDN (even lower with available mail-in rebates), which is unbelievable Bang for the Buck. There is no denying that in recent months DDR3 prices have tumbled like a drunk down a flight of stairs, but we would never expected such value so soon.

GigaByte EX58-UD4P @ Bjorn3D

Since the introduction of the x58 chipset and the Core i7 CPU, it is kinda hard to determine which board is the better one or provides the most features. That includes the one thing we all like to have on our computers, which is, stability. And that's whether it's at default CPU speeds or when we overclock our computers just a little bit to gain that extra performance or overclock our components a lot. We all want to have stability. It does help to make overclocking a little easier and make the adjustments a bit more understandable as well.

"I have a large desk, and I prefer to have my PC on my desk, my setup is monitor, monitor, monitor and then the case, so having it that close to me I want my PC to be as silent as possible, I don’t want to hear my computer, but yet it still needs to be cool. Enter NZXT with their Whisper case, true to it’s name it is silent with the help of insulating foam to dampen noise and several low RPM fans to help keep things cool. The Whisper though is a large case, and it’s very heavy, but it’s also very well made with room for nine hard drives and six 5.25" devices. Continue on to see the video tour of the case, along with several pictures as well… "
