Foxconn A690GM2MA-RS2H AMD 690G Motherboard Review @ PCSTATS.com |
Posted by Nathan @ 3:07 PM (EDT) |
"The Foxconn A690GM2MA-RS2H motherboard is based around AMD's 690G / SB600 chipsets, and although it has both DVI and analog video outputs, it regrettably lacks the HDMI jack that many other AMD690G motherboards boast. In any case if you wanted to hook up the Foxconn A690GM2MA-RS2H motherboard to a HDTV, there's always the DVI port." |

AirLive has a very diverse line-up. Their Skyphone-1000 is a wireless phone to be used with Skype. It makes calling other Skype users or normal numbers just as easy as with every other phone - it will even ring when someone calls you. As connection method a proprietary Bluetooth protocol is used which lets you use the phone without any corded connection. |

As its name suggests, the PG221 is a 22.1” monitor. It has a widescreen 16:10 aspect ratio, a built-in 1.3MP webcam and speakers – including a subwoofer – and a bevy of input options. The PG221 has a high contrast glare-type panel coating as well, for better saturation and color density. If you look at its individual features, the PG221 seems like a winner. |

These coolers are not for avant-garde overclocker's, nor were they designed with the overclocker in mind. I have read a few reviews on line where this product gets kicked in the proverbial nut sack for being crappy for overclocking, but why? It's not even made for that environment. The CM Sphere works much better that the stock Intel retail box heatsink, which works just fine for standard usage and also is not geared for overclocking. Under full load the copper version ran at just above 32C and the Jet black at 34C on the Intel and on the AMD system the copper ran at 38C and the Jet Black at 41C. The cooling fan is very silent and if noise is something you wish to avoid, the CM Sphere is something worthy of your consideration. |

The ASUS P5K3 Deluxe that I am reviewing today is basically the same motherboard, but without the integrated memory. My expectations of the motherboard were naturally high as it theoretically would be just as good as the Premium, but without the disadvantages of the integrated memory. |

"I can remember when I first heard about the homeplug idea of using existing power lines in your house to create a network. This was a very exciting idea for me, but unfortunately the first generation of these products didn't live up to the hype, as they were only able to connect at a maximum of 14Mbit, not very fast at all. Now we have the next generation of these products and this time round they actually deliver." |

ASUS Blitz Formula & Blitz Extreme Motherboards Review @ Virtual-Hideout |
Posted by Nathan @ 3:01 PM (EDT) |
“ASUS has been gracious in providing us with two enthusiast minded solutions for both DDR2 and DDR3 utilizing the same P35 chipset, in the Blitz Formula and Blitz Extreme. Why would ASUS consider offering the two options? Well in a nut shell, it simply saves you some money since new memory standards are always costly at the start and some users would like to really maximize their DDR2 based system. ASUS is well aware of this and felt that there was no reason why both kinds of memory module owners couldn't have a little bit of cake and ice cream. The only question you would need to ask yourself is, which flavor ice cream you would like.” |

Kingston's DataTraveler Secure line helps assuage these concerns. Using a 256 AES Hardware Based Encryption, these drives can be password locked down for ultimate protection. Today, we will look at the Kingston DataTraveler Secure 2GB USB Drive. This drive provides physical protection, as well as data protection and is waterproof to boot." |

In America we know that excess is never enough. The technology industry provides us with portable solid-state disks that can hold every Atari 2600 cartridge ever created, and that still isn't enough. We know this game has gotten a ton of praise from every possible reviewer, but I have a hard time giving a game blind praise because the graphics are pretty (which they most certainly are) or they add supposed "innovation" to a type of gaming by more or less taking all the rules of Real Time Strategy and throwing them out the window. I guess what it all boils down to is that I'm disappointed. I'm disappointed that a game which oozed with potential and with such promise of immersive, realistic and destructive strategy game play, boiled down to nothing more than a rather visually stimulating way for me to take orders from my computer. |

Serious enthusiasts should be able to make good use of system memory like the Crucial Ballistix 2GB PC3-12800 DDR3. You know, in most aspects of my purchasing life, I buy the generic or the cheapest.but when buying computer hardware, I nearly always buy the "big name" or proven products. I have previously owned one Rosewill product, an IEEE 1394 PCI card, that I bought thinking I would need it to review a Firewire item. It wasn't the cheapest I could find, but it was the cheapest I could find with a brand name I had heard of. Rosewill makes a wide range of hardware items, and their goal is to build quality merchandise that will sell for a reasonable price. Today, I'll see if the R6AS5-BK lives up to that goal.” |

High speed USB flash drives are a huge market with prices constantly falling and capacities ever increasing. Mention the word "floppy" around the office and people look at you confused like you are stuck in the 90's. USB flash drives provide a rewritable, dependable, and portable medium for consumers to transport large files between PCs or other devices. Capacities of 2GB, 4GB, or even 8GB are not uncommon for these tiny little solid-state drives. With plug-and-play for any modern PC, Mac, or Linux OS, there are no extra drivers required, simply plug in the drive and it shows up as another disk ready to use. |
MSI K9AG Neo2-Digital AMD 690G Motherboard Review @ PCSTATS.com |

MSI's K9AG Neo2 Digital has an HDMI port right at the back. That means the K9AG Neo2 Digital is ready for HTPC use right out of the box - as opposed to a DVI-to-HDMI converter, the HDMI jack signifies it has audio as well as video signals. The former can only provide the HDMI video signal. |

Integrated. Among enthusiasts this has become a four letter word never to be uttered in their presence. It has come to mean lacking, underpowered and weak. But there is another side to integrated. Efficient, flexible, and simple. If you are looking to put together a home theatre PC (HTPC) then finding the right motherboard with integrated components is crucial. You don't need blazing fast graphics or the highest signal to noise ratio, that's what discrete cards are for. What you need is small, quiet and cool. That's exactly what GIGABYTE offers with their new G33 series motherboard. As if including audio and video weren't enough this board actually has an HDMI port on it. You want to talk about integrated, how about both your audio and video on one cable! Now that's what I call efficient. |

There's more to the Caviar GP than its Birkenstocks, too. "Several things instantly stand out on the specs list, most notably the fact that you can install a standard ATX system in this case. Many HTPC cases restrict you to Micro-ATX only systems, which really limits the type of hardware that you can use. A 7" LCD touchscreen is something you certainly don't see on most HTPC cases. When Geeks Computer Parts lists Intel E4300, E4400, and E4500 within $1 difference in price ($124), I could not help to request the E4500 for a spin. XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB Fatal1ty Videocard Review @ Elite Bastards |
Posted by Nathan @ 3:50 PM (EDT) |
"Well, I think we've talked up the Fatal1ty's clock speed boosts enough, now it's time to actually reveal them. Compared to the aforementioned stock core clock speed of a GeForce 8800 GTS board of 500MHz, XFX's offering sees a 150MHz increase, giving it a final core clock of 650MHz. This also translates into a 400MHz change in the Stream Processors' clock speed, up to 1.6GHz from 1.2GHz on a reference part. Finally, memory clocks haven't been skimped on either, with a 200MHz increase from 800MHz to 1GHz (2GHz effective). Some tasty improvements there, I'm sure you'll agree." |
Posted by Nathan @ 3:50 PM (EDT) |
"With ambient temperature somewhere around 26c on both days that we took results from, you can clearly see the Thermaltake clearly exceeds the stock cooler, at first I was worried when I saw the idle temps were almost identical, but under load well a whole 19c difference on the 8800GTX and in my eyes that makes this pretty special." |

Ever since Intel released the 3 series chipset, DDR2 has had the wind taken from its sails so that DDR3 could make waves. This was meant with the best intentions, but as DDR3 was released to the public it didn't take long for people to realize it was still too immature to compete against DDR2 in regards to performance. This put the weight of the world back on the shoulders of DDR2, which has just earned a reprieve from execution. But now that manufacturers are tooling up for DDR3 production, there are only a few names remaining on the shrinking list which are still releasing high-performance system memory for the DDR2 platform. OCZ recognizes that DDR2 has performance potential left in it, and offers the 1150MHz PC2-9200 2GB Reaper HPC OCZ2RPR11502GK DDR2 RAM Kit to Benchmark Reviews for testing. |

ASUS EN8600GT OC Gear Graphics Card Review @ Virtual-Hideout |

“It’s all about DirectX 10 (DX10) isn't it? Well, how about a sub $200 DX10 graphics card? If that pleases you, then how about this: a DX10 graphics under $200 with a stand-alone hardware overclocking tool? The ASUS 256MB GeForce 8600GT OC GEAR PCI-E SLI graphics card is that sub $200 card with external hardware overclocking ability. The added overclocking hardware allows the end user to overclock the graphics externally. The external display which has mirror like finish displays the current status of the graphics card and also displays the frame rate of the current game being played in real-time.” |

"This board features two 16x PCI-E slots one blue for 16x operation and the other (black) that runs at 4x and can run any card from 1x to 16x with a maximum speed of two GB/s. These two ports are crossfire compatible. Three standard PCI slots and two PCI-E 1x slots are also available. If dual graphics cards are used with the stock or aftermarket heatsinks accessing the PCI slots may prove difficult. Using water cooling would be a way to eliminate that as a concern. Many of the connectivity options are scattered along the bottom and right hand side of the board. These include the front panel USB and Firewire as well as the front panel high definition audio, an additional com port and the high definition audio header." |

Sliding the outer shell of the internal drive frame was tight but not so much so as to warrant complaint. With the internal frame all the way out, we see how our drive mounts in and slides back into the outer cover. One thing that struck me as odd was cooling; no cooling fan and no appreciable vents to speak of. Hard drives can get very hot and without any real cooling we plan on putting the screws to the Kingwin Z1. |

Logitech z-5300e THX-Certified 5.1 Speakers Review @ OCModshop |

Personal Computers are no longer the beige office machines of yesteryear: they are serious entertainment appliances capable of delivering a great home theater or gaming experience. Those serious about the sound their PC produces will certainly have a high-quality sound card and great set of speakers. While a separate amp and speaker separates may be overkill for the average gamer (particularly in the price department), there are several speaker sets that can deliver a satisfying soundscape. |

With Antec venturing further and further into the Home Theatre PC market, they’ve started to come out with some general Hi-Fi accessories as well, the first of which is the VERIS A/V Cooler. Today we take a look and see if it’s any good. |

“Intel has two chipsets in the P3x family, the Intel P35 Express and the P31 Express. The P35 Express is designed for higher performance platforms, with support for DDR2 or DDR3 memory and the ICH9 series Southbridge. The P31 being tailored for budget systems, only supports DDR2 memory and features Intel’s older ICH7 series Southbridge. However the P31 has one major advantage price. Today I’ll be reviewing Gigabyte’s GA-P31-DS3L platform based on the Intel P31 chipset. Let’s dig in and see how this board stacks up.” |
Logitech G9 3200 dpi Laser USB Gaming Mouse @ Benchmark Reviews |

Ever since I first laid my hand on the funny pointing device attached to the Apple Mac back in the forth grade, I felt that computers would always seem to be approachable. I think that most of us probably started this way, and eventually learned our way around the rest of the landscape. Times have changed, and now many of us require, nay demand, something more from our peripheral hardware than simple functions. The Logitech G9 3200 dpi Laser USB Gaming Mouse 910-000173 has arrived on the scene and Benchmark Reviews is ready to point and click... boom, head-shot! |

“Antec makes some of the best PC cases and power supplies available today. As far as cases go their Performance One series has been at hit. We have seen the P150, P160, P180, and P182 cases. Now it's time for the "Big Boy" the P190. The P190 combines 2 Antec power supplies with the P190 chassis giving you an all-in-one powerful system. This is the first time we have seen a dual-power supply design so it will be interesting to see how it works. Let's see what the P190 has in store for us!” |

"M-Audio recently broke into that fledgling market with its IE-40 professional reference earbuds, which claim to boast the same quality of sound reproduction as studio-grade reference speakers, with a price to match. They take many of the same technologies used in full-size loudspeakers and shrink them down into a portable ear-sized package." |
OCZ Platinum r2 DDR2-800 2GB Memory Kit Reviewed @ TheTechLounge |
Posted by Nathan @ 3:02 AM (EDT) |
“OCZ plays the high-end game almost exclusively, and has innovation and performance marks to back up the company’s rep. Given all that, their Platinum series is about as vanilla as they scoop. No SLI EPP features, no Vista certification, no extreme heatspreaders or water blocks; just sleek, downright minimalist looks, and a bar they, themselves, have set high.” |

Despite having a number of models available, ASUS is still not a name that's synonymous with notebooks. But one thing is certain, they don't push out poorly designed products. We are taking a look at a perfect example of what a quality notebook should be, with the G1S gaming series. |

Flash memory is a diverse product used everywhere from cell phones to PC storage devices. As it is relatively cheap and the production is abundant, it is no wonder it has became so popular. There are many types of flash memory cards available, but only 4 or 5 are deemed as major. Today we will take a look at the Gaming Edition flash memory cards from Lexar, designed to be totally compatible with gaming consoles and equipment. There are only two Gaming Edition cards which Lexar produce, a Memory Stick Duo Pro card which is commonly present on all Sony hardware and gaming consoles, and a Secure Digital card which is the most widely used flash card available and can also be found on Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii. |

Ok guys when you think of things you'd want to put on your top ten list for problems America has to deal with, what would they be. No not terrorism. No. not education. Not poverty. Not homelessness. Not zombies. In fact, if the actions of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security ICE (Immigrations and Customs Enforcement) have anything to say about it, the biggest threat to our American way of life is console modding. Yes console modding. |

When the dust settles, OCZ has released an excellent product at an even better price point. With the exception of the added height, the OCZ Reaper Memory Kit is something well worth considering for folks needing an upgrade but not quite ready for a full on DDR3 jump which would mean a new motherboard. |

The ATP Petito 2 GB USB stick features a solid metal shell which helps make the drive a lot more resilient to damage. “When you are working long hours or are doing some serious gaming nothing can keep you going like a nice cold drink. The problem is once you get a drink from the fridge and take it into your office there is no way of keeping it cold. Also if you are at a LAN party and you don't have access to a refrigerator there is no way to get a nice cold drink. This is where the Brando USB Mini Fridge comes in. It is powered by USB and can keep your drinks cold while you are doing work or gaming.” |

“The average price I can find for the DS107+ is about $330. This seems like an amazingly good deal as far as I’m concerned. It’s external storage with gigabit Ethernet, a web server, iTunes server, backup utility for Cameras and USB drives. Plus the (near as I can tell), unique internal bit torrent download client that you can use from a remote location. It’s not so high priced that a small home business or family with a home network and a couple computers can’t afford it. With 500GB drives around $100, it’s a very cost effective solution.“ |

The Super Talent W186IUX2G8 DDR3 memory does very well, but it will be interesting to see where the lines are drawn as more DDR3 memory comes into the lab. The speeds are pretty amazing, particularly considering the standard is still in its infancy. |

Memory maker OCZ added two new flash drives to their lineup last month; the ATV and ATV Turbo. Both drives are designed to keep your data safe even under the most extreme conditions. The rugged ATV Turbo has a rubber waterproof housing and should be pretty fast too. |

"We understand why AMD doesn't allow to retail cards like HD 2900 XT 1GB. Even after our first article of this series it was clear that the problem was not in memory capacity - 512 MB of memory was quite sufficient even for top graphics cards. There is nothing wrong with memory bus width either. The problem is in the core..." |
