"If there was ever a lesson in not being complacent and assuming a particular result before testing a unit when seeing the same basic power supply design redressed by yet another brand, this was it. The Xigmatek NRP-MC851 came into testing as a promising candidate for your enthusiast dollars as it shared a CWT PSH pedigree with such units as the Corsair TX750, Thermaltake Purepower RX 600w, Thermaltake Toughpower QFan 650w, and so on. All of these previous related units have been, if not award winning, at least good units in our testing. However, whereas the last Xigmatek unit we reviewed, the NRP-HC1001, stumbled slightly in relation to other CWT PUC based units in its review; today's NRP-MC851 fell flat on its face, twice." |

"With the laptop market growing in leaps in bounds over the last few years, the call for mobile external storage is sure to grow with it. SunnyTek has attempted to bridge the gap with its Mini Mobile Back Plane. As SSDs become more commonplace in laptops, the call for larger external storage will grow even more. For those early adopters of the SSD technology, we are often pigeon-held with small hard drives, which for the most part can only store the operating system, so an external hard drive is a must if you want to store more than a few documents. SunnyTek has set the bar high with its mini mobile back plane external hard drive caddy, offering many useful feature and also carrying the title of the first mobile mini back plane currently on the market..." |

The introduction of the Nvidia 790i chip set gives new meaning to SLI. With scaling running as high as 60-70%, SLI is becoming a more attractive option. With a feature rich board, easy to set up SLI, a really sweet bundle, and easy overclocking, it's hard to overlook the 790i for true enthusiasts. |

At over £175 including VAT, the Asus VK222H on the expensive side for a 22-inch widescreen monitor if you don’t factor in things like the webcam and HDMI port. However, when you do, it’s a reasonably priced HDMI-equipped 22-inch monitor with a webcam thrown in for kicks. If the webcam isn't on your list of requirements, there are cheaper 22-inchers with HDMI on the market but they don't appear to be as stylish as the VK222H's unassuming lines. |

"The unit carries no approvals for SLI or Crossfire on the packaging or in the user manual. The Nvidia website however, does list the Toughpower 650W (Model W0104RU), the one supplied to me is the Toughpower QFan 650W (Model W0163RU), so please do not confuse the two. The W0163RU is a relatively new addition to the power supply range according to the Thermaltake website and, at the time of writing this review, carried no certificates for SLI or 80 Plus. It would come as no surprise to see this power supply certified for both SLI and 80 Plus some time in the near future. With excellent DC load voltage regulation, good DC quality and efficiency of over 80% I would highly recommend the Thermaltake Toughpower QFan 650W power supply. I have no doubt it will easily power most mid to high end systems with a single graphics card but if you are considering a dual card set-up do your research first and ensure compatability with your intended system." |

In terms of overall graphics performance, the GeForce 9300 is in a class by itself on the Intel side of things. While the G45 struggles to maintain any kind of playable frame rates in the games that I tried and crashed 3DMark Vantage altogether, the GeForce 9300 was able to finish the test and have decent frame rates throughout. The GeForce 9300 chipset is 20% faster than the Intel G45 chipset across the board. By this performance metric, it is likely that the faster 9400 boards will outstrip the G45 chipset by 35% or more across the board. This is a very impressive feat for an integrated graphics card to say the least. Had the GeForce 9300 and 9400 come out when the G45 launched, Intel might have had a real problem. Intel is rumored to have a new CPU coming out for the high-end and we'll see how that translates with integrated graphics at that time. |

With the card itself, I was a little let down by the fact that the card only had 1 DVI output and when I realized Biostar didn't take full advantage of the 900MHz capable memory chips. However, there's a silver lining in the grey clouds. While I didn't have success in overclocking, your results may differ as there's plenty of potential headroom to be had. As well, once you find out that this card retails in the 70 dollar range, you suddenly realize all the potential it holds. It's for the budget conscious and it's a great budget upgrade for an older PC. When paired with a 19" LCD monitor at 1280x1024, you can still play some of the newer titles on the market. It may not provide the fastest framerates, but it'll do. |

While others claim to save more power, GIGABYTE can’t be knocked for starting this power saving revolution and it continues today. |

I got on the electronical horn with my Antec rep and quickly requested the new Antec Fusion Remote Max. The FRM as I will call it throughout this review has the demeanor that speaks luxury and class. Besides great looks the FRM does not limit the builder to small mATX motherboards as this new enclosure can house standard size main boards. And if that small feature doesn't sell this box then lets try mentioning the large cooling fans that are ultra quiet and the four 3.5" bays that can help to store your precious media collection. MSI Radeon HD 4850 Video Card R4850-512M @ Benchmark Reviews |

MSI takes what ATI started, and clean up a few rough edges. There's no doubting the performance potential of any Radeon HD 4850, but taming the beast within has been another story. All too often the industry produces a product a little too hot to handle, and the RV770 GPU is one fine example. Plagued with high heat output, it takes the daring minds at MSI to calm fire with ice. Benchmark Reviews has already tested the high-performance cooling options dedicated to the Radeon HD 4870: Sapphire has their Toxic and Palit has their Sonic, but it seems that the big names have overlooked the warm-blooded 4850. In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests the MSI Radeon HD 4850 video card R4850-512M SKU- MS-V803-285. |

"Considering the fact that modules run at cas 4 DDR2 800(400 FSB) at lower than the specified 1.9 volts with no issues, the overclocking potential looked promising. Getting to 900MHz(450FSB) was just a matter of adjusting the voltage to the voltage specified by G.Skill to run the modules at the stock speeds. Looking better! Pushing to 1000MHz (500FSB) required a couple of things from these modules. First was an increase in the vDimm to 1.95 volts and adjusting the CAS latency to 5 was needed to even boot. Still looking good at under 2.0 volts. Now pushing up to 1066MHz (533FSB) was where the drama started for me. I adjusted the timings to 5-5-5-12 to see if the modules would allow a boot at 2.0 volts! No go! 2.1 volts was still a no go, so I had to push 2.2 volts for 1066MHz to become a reality. Pushing higher even with 2.3 volts did not yield any additional increase in memory speed. So with my max speed set at 1066MHz at 2.2 volts, I went for the timings to see if they could be coaxed down any further. 5-5-4-12 at 1066MHz (533FSB) was the best I was able to achieve with the G.Skill Black PI modules." |

However, the question is will this latest series of fans be able to meet both the demands of performance and silence?" |

“Modern processors produce a lot of heat and it requires large heatsinks with fans to keep everything running to specification. Thermal paste is one of the most critical components for keeping your processor cool, especially for those of us who overclock. The surfaces of processors and heatsink bases may appear to be completely flat to the naked eye but on a microscopic level there are many imperfections. These imperfections create air pockets between the cooler and the CPU which can have a great effect on thermal performance. This reduces the size of the contact area and air is a poor heat conductor.” |

The ECS GF9300T-A Black Series GeForce 9300 motherboard is hopefully a BIOS update away from being an incredible motherboard. It seems well conceived and well designed, but there are just too many issues and limiting factors to get overly excited about it as is. The performance was respectable in many tests anyway, and it makes me wonder just how good this board could be (at stock speeds or overclocked) if it wasn't being held back. |

"The Palit HD4850 Sonic is an overclocked card built on a purpose built PCB. That purpose is to provide a card that is both stable and overclocks like gangbusters. It delivered clock speed increases of 15% on the RV770 core and a hefty 26% on the memory. OverclockersClub has done a few reviews on the ATI based HD4850 cards to show a wide range of performance with non reference cards with unique heatspreaders to just your basic reference video cards. Of the seven tested to date the Palit HD4850 is the cream of the crop. The three phase power design helps to get the most from this card. It just rocks. When pushed to the maximum this card gave the HD4870 and GTX260 a run for their money and and won in most instances. You just normally do not see that from a nice mid-range card. I have got to give Palit props for this card." |

Thermalright T-Rad² Video Card Cooler Review @ Hardware Canucks |

For the last few years Thermalright's video card cooling products were centered around the gargantuan HR-series of heatsinks which offered incredible performance but had an Achilles Heel: their size. We have to say we really like the Palit Radeon HD 4850 Sonic - the cooling solution performs incredibly well and the PCB redesign has enabled Palit to keep the price of this card down at around £120 (inc. VAT), which makes it an attractive proposition considering the factory overclock. Of course, it would have been nice of Palit to overclock the memory a big further, but we understand why it hasn't done this - all of the Radeon HD 4850s we've seen have been able to run at clock speeds in excess of 685MHz, but memory is a little harder to guarantee to certain clock speeds without bumping the price up. |

This brings us to today's review of the mid-range Palit GeForce 9800 GT Super+ 1GB video card NE/9800TXT302 from NVIDIA. "Battery Life: This is one of the most, if not the most, important factor to consider when shopping for a portable computer. For this test, I enabled every single onboard device, set the brightness to its maximum and disabled all the power saving options. It was left idling at the desktop for the whole time with the wireless connection used as a bridge so there was constant traffic going through the network adaptors. Using Windows XP, Asus' Eee 1000H managed to stay awake for over four hours, four hours and twenty five minutes to be exact. Turning to Ubuntu, things don't shine as much. The open source alternative can only manage three hours and forty-six minutes. It's still pretty good and longer than an average laptop, but it clearly is inferior to Windows in that category. Of course, battery life will vary depending upon your usage, but that four hour figure can easily be extended by quite a margin once you disable some peripherals, especially WiFi and Bluetooth. Another efficient way to improve your uptime is to leave power saving features on like they will be in a normal usage pattern and decrease screen brightness." |

ATI Radeon HD 4350 versus EVGA GeForce 9400GT @ Motherboards.org |
Posted by Nathan @ 1:24 AM (EDT) |
The ATI Radeon HD 4350 is an excellent card for the HTPC crowd. The ability to fit the card into a half height bay means It will fit into most cases without issue. The ability to run 7.1 HDMI Audio is a definite plus as the card can play audio without an audio card or even onboard audio. The ability to do full-screen Blu-Ray playback smoothly on the graphics chip is also a big plus. The 9400GT is more of a gamers' card than the ATI card. Its performance is higher across the board but again it becomes a matter of what do you want from a discrete graphics card. Do you want a card that plays the games with the highest resolution and settings? Then you'd be better off buying a more expensive card as the game play experience would be much more enjoyable. If you're a casual gamer that is looking to improve on the mediocre Intel integrated graphics then this is the card for you if you have $40 to spend. |

“NZXT are an American company primarily known for their unique looking cases geared towards the gaming market. NZXT is a corporation formed by gamers, for gamers, and with the NZXT Khaos we’re looking at today they’ve really made an attempt to mark their place in the high end of the market. We’ve reviewed quite a few of their cases in the past, but this is the first one to really foray into this territory. It is a fantastic looking case constructed from high quality materials, but with a hefty price tag of £270 and no extras such as a PSU, the NZXT has a lot to prove.” |

"Today we'll examine new Low-End solutions from AMD, which can provide acceptable performance in most games for a relatively small price. All these solutions and GPUs are based on the RV7xx architecture, also a foundation for the popular RADEON HD 4800 series. For now, in the practical part of this review we'll focus on the fastest RV730-based card." |

Vantec Aeroflow FX92/FX120 HDT CPU Coolers Review @ Virtual-Hideout |
Posted by Nathan @ 4:21 PM (EDT) |
“I'd have to say that the FX92 is definitely not a heatsink to pass up; though it does manage to make itself heard when spinning up to meet the load, it's cooling performance nearly matches that of the much heavier sinks, and even an upgraded watercooling kit. That's nothing to sneeze at. So, what we now have sitting here are a pair of products - one which is great, and one that needs work. On the plus side, though - they both work well enough, are accessible enough, and cheap enough to recommend, and that's a step forward.“ |

The HAF932 is another case from Coolermaster that is sure to be a big hit. The case offers a look that is unique from the masses and looks to be built to the point where it can take a pounding and keep protecting your prized components. The HAF stands for High Air Flow and it definitely is that as the unit has four large fans that measure at the minimum 14 centimeters up to 23 centimeters. Things have just got cooled in the labs so lets get on with the review before I give you all the details in the introduction. |

The latest slick offering from the big MS mob comes in the form of a rather miniature rodent, the Explorer Mini Mouse! The little gem is touting the latest all-surface tracking technology as well as power saving features and a sporty little bag, too! |

"The Cooler Master GeminII S Cooler is not only a great solution for someone using a smaller case or has other size restrictions, it also has a wide range of additional uses such as cooling other parts of your system like the RAM or North Bridge. The size to performance ratio of this cooler also makes it a great value, as it is quite small but packs a ton of features such as an pure copper base and 5 pure copper heatpipes running through the large array of aluminum fins located under a large yet quiet 120mm fan. The GeminII S does not stand quite a high as the TRUE nor the V8, however the temperatures the GeminII S was able to yield were very close within a few degrees of them." |

Every once in awhile a product comes along that makes you wonder why someone hadn't thought of it earlier. A product that makes so much sense yet is elegant in its simplicity. Today Benchmark Reviews takes a look at one such product, the Thermaltake BlacX. The BlacX is basically a very simple SATA to USB 2.0 adapter. What we have come to expect from Sapphire is that when a top tier graphics card has been released a newer and more powerful one will be on the way and branded with the Toxic name. They have done it again with the powerful HD 4870 by cranking up the numbers and by adding a heat pipe cooling system. |

n-Tegrity Pro - Fingerprint Protected Personal Data Manager @ TestFreaks.com |

"Today I've got another from a company called N-Trance. The n-Tegrity USB drive uses biometrics to secure the drive, so it's as unique as you are, but it also uses military encryption as well on the data that's stored on the drive itself. That's not all this drive is good for though, it does include a few applications with it, and you can add more as needed. The real feature of this drive is the ability to use your fingerprint to login to virtually any web site out there, that is part of the technology for this device that the company, N-Trance, has developed. No more passwords to remember as they are stored on the drive itself, encrypted of course for further protection. " |
