ZALMAN CNPS10X FLEX HEATSINK / COOLER REVIEW

The Zalman CNPS10X Flex follows a slightly different path than other CNPS10X models. When compared to other CNPS10X models, the fans are not included and the heatsink is now able to take full advantage of two fans.

INTEL I7-980X GULFTOWN SIX CORE PROCESSOR REVIEW

(03-10-2010)

The Intel I7-980x being reviewed today is one of those products coming onto the market that you know know is more of a 32nm victory lap rather than a product that is trying to leap-frog the competition. With nothing in sight that could even touch the Nehalem in terms of performance, the Gulftown adds to an impressive performance market lead that will not be superceded by anyone but themselves for some time to come.

ASUS TS MINI HOME SERVER REVIEW

(03-09-2010)

Today I'm going to take the Asus TS Mini home server for a test run and see how it performs when integrated into a typical home network. Since this is a product designed for the home market, it should be easy to setup and maintain, operate quietly, and be small enough to not be in the way of other electronic equipment.

ASUS P7P55D-E Pro Intel P55 LGA 1156 Motherboard Review @ ThinkComputers.org

Posted by Nathan @ 5:17 AM (EDT)

There are a couple of other decisions that will have to be made, mainly whether or not to get ready for the two other new technologies on the market…SATA 6gb/s, and USB 3. Many new P55 motherboards have onboard SATA 6Gb/s and USB 3, but were you aware that most of them actually use PCI-E lanes to compensate for the lack of buses to utilize these new methods of data transfer, taking those valuable lanes away from the video cards? Today I will be looking at the Asus P7P55D-E Pro, a middle-of-the-road version of Asus’ new P55 motherboards that sport SATA 6Gb/s and USB 3 without PCI-E compens ation. Yes, this board prepares you for the future while allowing you the full use of your PCI-E lanes for SLI or CrossfireX by using Asus’ new PLX implementation. Is the P7P55D-E Pro the P55 board to have? Read on to see!

Now that the AMD 890GX chipset is out we are seeing all of the manufacturers getting their boards into play. This is to be expected as the 890GX is a great chipset. But as with everything, each manufacturer will have its own method of implementation. Yes, the chipset is the same and the performance is going to be similar, but there are going to be very different feature sets.

Coolink Corator DS Gapless Direct Touch CPU Cooler Review @ Legit Reviews

Posted by Nathan @ 5:15 AM (EDT)

Back in January Coolink released its newest CPU cooler called the Corator DS, and they sent us one to test. Coolink is known for inexpensive coolers that perform, and in times like now inexpensive is good. This time around Coolink is bringing new technology to the market with their cooler: Gapless Direct Touch. Just like the name suggests, the base of the Corator DS is Heatpipe Direct Touch (HDT) design instead of the normal gaps between the round pipes. Also, the base of the HDT design is copper fitted, so that fills the space between the heatpipes. It allows the base to perform as an HDT cooler and also has the benefits of a solid base with no gaps. What also makes this interesting is that Coolink is using the Noctua SecuFirm2 mounting system...

Xclio A380 Color Plus Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 5:14 AM (EDT)

It seems Xclio put a slightly higher importance on looks than function, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing because I still think it looks awesome. On the other hand, these problems did show in the testing. I don't really have too much to say about the wire management, as some features are there such as mostly everything already being pre-wired, but it doesn't seem like much extra thought was put into making other wiring look clean. For a case as expensive as this, I really would have expected better temperatures, some paint on the inside, some accommodations for wire management, and the simple, but massively convenient, heatsink mounting bracket access hole.

HIS Radeon HD 5770 1GB Video Card @ Tweaktown

Posted by Nathan @ 7:24 PM (EDT)

The card to arrive was a HD 5770; it wasn't a Turbo nor an IceQ version and since I had already reviewed two HD 5770s from HIS, I figured I was probably going to be dealing with a card that I'd already seen. When I opened it up, though, I found a new fan design that looked pretty cool.

Since the release of the HD 5700 series we've seen companies release models with different types of fans. ATI themselves had two different versions of the card; one with the cooler that's like the HD 5800 series cards and a cheaper designed one. It seems that HIS have added another card to the flock so let's take the time to see how it goes.

ProlimaTech Armageddon CPU Cooler Review @ Benchmark Reviews

Posted by Nathan @ 7:24 PM (EDT)

The aftermarket heatsink industry is very competitive, and manufacturers often release several product designs before finally scoring a win with enthusiasts and overclockers. The Megahalems was ProlimaTech's first run at CPU-cooler's, and a very sucessful one at that. Earning our Editor's Choice Award and countless accolades from other websites, ProlimaTech has built high expectations with their follow-up products. The ProlimaTech Armageddon is one such cooling solution with a legacy to fill, and with six heatpipes and enough finsink area for two 140mm fans it seems a reasonable possability. Benchmark Reviews recently tested the ProlimaTech Armageddon heatsink in our Best CPU Cooler Performance series, on an overclocked Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition processor against several other top CPU coolers.

Antec CP-850 850W Power Supply Review @ ThinkComputers.org

Posted by Nathan @ 7:23 PM (EDT)

Antec has always been known for making very reliable power supplies. They have done something a little interesting with their CP-Series power supplies though. They are designed differently so they are larger than most power supplies, which means they will only fit in certain cases. Those cases include Antec’s Twelve Hundred, P183, and P193. The larger size does allow for a better internal design, but is that worth limiting what cases you can put the power supply in? Antec has sent us their 850W version of the CP-Series, let’s put it to the test and see if it’s worth it!

Asus M4A785TD-V EVO AM3 Motherboard Review @ OverclockersHQ

Posted by Nathan @ 7:22 PM (EDT)

Asus has been making quality components for a number of years. For some it has been the go to company for components because they are rock solid and always quality. A somewhat new technology Asus is focusing on is their Xtreme Phase technology. Unlike their competitors they decided to go with unique phase angles as opposed to they use double phase angles which are not as efficient. So what does this mean to you? Most problems with poorly design motherboards is the power efficiency and distribution. Poor quality power or the wrong voltages can send your motherboard into a tail spin, Asus knows this and that is why they included their Xtreme Phase technology on their latest motherboards, it is utilized by hardware switching; when the load is medium to heavy it activates all the phase banks, when your load is less it will scale down to 4 phase banks. Asus makes quality products because of their introduction of VRM technology and quality components to an already great board design. Today we will be looking at one of Asus’s Xtreme Design front runners: the Asus M4At85TD-V EVO Motherboard, coupled with the always welcome 785G Chipset for the AM3 platform.

Arctic Sound E361-BM Earbuds @ Techgage.com

It's not uncommon for a company which focuses on one thing to branch out into another, but I am not sure many people would have predicted a company such as Arctic Cooling would begin producing audio equipment. Fortunately though, the company has obviously done its research, as the audio quality is very good (with great bass!).

“DDR3 memory has definitely been developing into a mainstream standard in the past few months, as witnessed by the constant price drop and nearing the prices of DDR2. Having in mind that Intel has already presented its P55 platform to the market, it’s hardly surprising that faster and better memory kits for it appear all the time. Unlike the X58 platform, P55 was designed for dual-channel memory access, which “revived” dual-channel memory kits for Intel platforms…”

Cooler Master Excalibur @ LanOC Reviews

It's rare nowadays to see a company make a case fan attractive without the use of lighting of some sort. That doesn't mean it can't be done. Cooler Master's new 120mm case fan the Excalibur, is proof of that. The simple and sleek design just doesn't get justice behind bezels. Careful not to judge books by their covers today I sit down with the Excalibur to see how it performs.

Crucial 8GB Kit DDR3-1333/PC3-10600 CT2KIT51264BA1339 Memory Review @ Ocinside

Posted by Nathan @ 12:41 PM (EDT)

These new Crucial 4GB UDIMM DDR3 modules were announced recently and each module has 4GB per module instead of the so far usual 2GB per module. This capacity makes an enormously high memory upgrade possible for current High-End systems, because with e.g. 4x 4 GB modules it is possible to reach gigantic 16GB DDR3 RAM. This is fantastic for developer of 3D animations and graphic designer, but also for all other power users with a 64 bit operating system. Two of these new Crucial PC3-10600 4GB UDIMM modules were tested as 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 kit in an AMD socket AM3 system, compared with some other RAM kits and overclocked to the maximum limit.

Antec Two Hundred Mid Tower Chassis Review @ Tweaktown

Posted by Nathan @ 12:40 PM (EDT)

Lately what I have seen from Antec was the out of the box concept of test bench style chassis’. They made quite a stir with the release of their open air Skeleton series cases and I for one was a fan of the uniqueness and overall concept of those chassis’. The Antec 900 I mentioned and we have all come to know over the years, was the trendsetter for the Gaming series of Antec chassis design. Since then, there have been several variations including revisions of the original 900, but a much larger partner in cooling components, the 1200.

Today we are going to have a look at their kid brother. With this concept Antec has taken some of the original elements and packed them into a much smaller and budget concept package. I am referring to the Antec Two Hundred Gaming Mid Tower chassis. From the looks of things at first glance, there are fan controls and the traditional matte black paint, but this time Antec has placed a much more unique front panel on the Two Hundred.
