ASUS TS MINI HOME SERVER REVIEW

(03-09-2010)

Today I'm going to take the Asus TS Mini home server for a test run and see how it performs when integrated into a typical home network. Since this is a product designed for the home market, it should be easy to setup and maintain, operate quietly, and be small enough to not be in the way of other electronic equipment.

SAMSUNG PN58B650 58 INCH PLASMA TV REVIEW

(03-08-2010)

The Samsung PN58B650 is one of those products that can be a little confusing to sum up in a couple paragraphs. For one, this TV is quite a bit cheaper than the higher end 850 series model, but other than the dimensions, it has a better overall visual viewing experience.

THERMALTAKE ISGC-300 CPU COOLER REVIEW

(03-04-2010)

I had high hopes for Thermaltake's ISGC-300 cooler. I liked the design and it was very easy to install on the 775 platform, although the mobo may have to be removed for installation, even for AMD users.

ZALMAN Z7 PLUS COMPUTER CASE REVIEW

(03-02-2010)

First of all, the Z7 cases have a distinctive look and profile that sets them apart from most others in their class, particularly the Z7 Plus that we saw this time out. I really like the looks of this case and the cooling performance was quite good, particularly when one considers how quiet it can be by virtue of the side panel fan controller.

Antec P183 Advanced Mid Tower Case Review @ ThinkComputers.org

Posted by Nathan @ 3:35 AM (EST)

Antec’s Performance One series cases have been a staple in the computer case industry for quite a while. I know quite a few people that have had their Antec P180 and P182 cases for years now. Antec has once improved their current Performance One cases with the new P183. It features new front door vents, air filters on the entire front of the case and more room for longer power supplies. Besides all of these new improvements you get Antec’s superior quality and sleek style. So let’s take a look at the P183 Advanced Mid Tower.

Thermaltake Toughpower XT 775W Power Supply Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 3:35 AM (EST)

The electrical performance of the Thermaltake Toughpower XT 775W with excellent DC voltage regulation from zero to full load, low noise levels and efficiency levels peaking at 88% put it up there with the best. There have been some design changes on the new range of Thermaltake Toughpower XT power supplies and the use of DC to DC converters for the +3V3 and 5V rails have no doubt helped in the production of a power supply that meets 80 Plus Bronze certification.

Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler Review @ Hardware Secrets

Posted by Nathan @ 3:34 AM (EST)

Today we are going to test Tranquillo from Gelid, a CPU cooler with a tower design, four U-shape heatpipes, one 120-mm fan and focused on silence. This cooler has identical specs to Noctua NH-U12P, Thermaltake ISGC-300 and 3R System iCEAGE Prima Boss, which we have already tested and have performed nicely. Will Tranquillo perform well too?

Lian Li PC-T1R Spider @ techPowerUp

Posted by Nathan @ 3:34 AM (EST)

Here's Lian Li being Lian Li. The PC-T1 is an open mini-ITX chassis, which is one of the most wacky cases on the planet: it looks like a spider when assembled. Being the case that it is, we wanted to look into the belly of the beast and see if the menacing looks are coupled with the kind of engineering required to pull such a design off.

Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 1GB Review @ XSReviews

Posted by Nathan @ 3:33 AM (EST)

In recent weeks, ATI has continued to roll out its “Evergreen” Radeon HD 5 series range of DirectX 11 graphics cards. The Nvidia v. ATI rivalry that has existed in previous GPU ranges has been a non-starter with ATI able to set out its performance, mainstream and lower end segment cards without response from Nvidia. Indeed, the Fermi cards are not due to hit the markets until late March, six months on from ATI's headline act – the Radeon HD 5870.

Cooler Master V8 Heatpipe CPU Cooler Review @ Bigbruin.com

Posted by Nathan @ 3:32 AM (EST)

It's been a while since we've seen a CPU cooler at Bigbruin.com, but today we have one of the more popular coolers on the market - the Cooler Master V8. Even though the V8 was launched in June of 2008, it is only now beginning to see its true potential thanks to the popularity of the Intel Core i7 and i5 processors, and the tremendous amount of heat they can produce.

Thecus N7700 Pro 7 Drive NAS Server Review @ Tweaktown

Posted by Nathan @ 3:32 AM (EST)

Thecus has their own history of Tick Tock behavior with their NAS servers. In April 2009 we reviewed the Thecus N7700 and found it to be an exciting product that was a step above the more consumer focused N5200 Pro while also being worthy of our highest award, the TweakTown Editors Choice. Since that time we reviewed the QNAP TS-809 Pro TurboNAS and found it to be able to transfer data faster with its faster processor (Core 2 Duo compared to the N7700’s Celeron M) and more memory.

Thecus’ answer to the flagship QNAP unit is now here, the N8800 Pro and N7700 Pro. The new Pro model of the 7700 features a Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB of memory. All of that pales in comparison to what came next. For the first time ever a product in this price category has an option to use a 10GbE data connection.

MSI GTX 275 Lightning @ ocaholic

Posted by Nathan @ 3:31 AM (EST)

With the GeForce GTX 275 Lightning MSI shows a card where absolutely no compromises hae been made. The card should be faster and quieter than every other 275 GTX. The card is everything else but not reference design and especially the ten plus two phase power design should be able to convince enthusiasts and overclockers.

Steel Series Siberia v2 @ LanOC Reviews

Always looking to perfect their products, Steel Series recently introduced a redesigned version of their popular Siberia headset called the Siberia v2. Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler Review @ BayReviews.com

Posted by Nathan @ 3:51 AM (EST)

Heat is any CPU's worst enemy and to fight off heat you need the best CPU cooler that money can buy. Without any kind of cooling, you would fry the CPU and/or motherboard to a crisp. The Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler is one that is compatible with most CPU socket types (AMD and Intel) available today. It can use up to two cooling fans for extreme cooling but can also be used without any fans at all. Let's now see how well it performs.

Kingston SSDNow V-Series 30GB Solid State Boot Drive Review @ ThinkComputers.org

Posted by Nathan @ 3:50 AM (EST)

Upgrading from a normal hard drive to a solid state drive can be quite expensive and for most people it really does not make that much sense. Solid state capacities are getting larger, but that just brings the price of the drives up even higher. Kingston wants to help people out who want to take advantage of the blazing speeds of solid state drives, but don’t want to break the bank. They have just released the SSDNow V-Series 30GB solid state boot drive. This drive will retail at around $100 and will allow you to load your operating system and applications on it for fast load times, and then you can just put all of your media on a normal SATA drive. This is a great upgrade option for people looking to get a solid state drive, but might not have that much extra money for one.

Cooler Master 690 II Advanced Review @ Overclockers Online

Posted by Nathan @ 3:49 AM (EST)

One of the things the 690 II Advanced has going for it is a lot of versatility. With support for mounting radiators in the top or bottom, SSD mount and an external hard drive dock the 690 II Advanced is ready for almost anything you throw at it. Cooling performance is good with the 3 stock fans and with support for up to a total of 10 you can tailor it to the level you want. Styling might be suggestive but I find the 690 II Advanced to be a great looking case and the black interior brings it all together.

Mushkin Mulholland Drive 2GB USB Drive Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 3:49 AM (EST)

The Mushkin Mulholland Drive was able to perform quite well when it was stacked up against the other drives that are currently out on the market, the synthetic testing was not where the drive was able to prove itself as much as during the realworld file transfer testing. I was quite impressed to see that a flash drive that costs just under $9 when purchased directly from Mushkin's website was able to perform the way that it was able to.

Gelid Solutions Tranquillo @ LanOC Reviews

Posted by Nathan @ 3:30 PM (EST)

We have taken a look at a few products from Gelid Solutions in the past, I was very impressed with the low noise levels of their first heatsink Silent CPU Cooler. Their last heatsink was designed to perform well, but not to compete with some of the larger high-end coolers that enthusiasts normally go after. No because of that Gelid Solutions has released the Tranquillo, a larger heatsink aimed at high performance but still following Gelid's Silent product line. Today we have the chance to put it to the test and see how it performs compared to some of best heatsinks on the market.

Coolermaster GX 750 Power Supply @ Pro-Clockers

Posted by Nathan @ 3:29 PM (EST)

Coolermaster realized this and came out with the new GX series of power units. As of this writing, the series consists of three units: 550W, 650W and 750W. The power range is not extreme at all, but the most sought after sweet spot. The entire line-up features a single 12 volt rail, which aims it at individuals needing the most stable power when using dual GPU setups. The largest of the three is Nvidia SLI certified. If you are not interested in the multiple graphic setups, but want great efficiency; well the GX has it as well with the 85% mark on all three units. We will take a short look at the new power supply to see what it has to offer.

In Win Fanqua Mid Tower Chassis Review @ ThinkComputers.org

Posted by Nathan @ 3:29 PM (EST)

In Win isn’t a widely known company, but it is slowly starting to get to there. Their unique cases are a different from the norm and the In Win Fanqua Mid Tower Chassis that we have to review today is no exception. Supporting up to nine drives the Fanqua houses four fans: three 120mm and one 220mm blue LED fan which lights up the entire case. In Win has also developed many tool-free devices to help ensure a fast and easy installation. Read on further to find out more about this case.

Raidmax Skyline Case Review @ OCIA.net

Posted by Nathan @ 3:28 PM (EST)

In the world of PC customization there are a wide range of products to choose from when looking to house your computing hardware. Some are expensive and high quality, while others are expensive and not worth their weight in tin. Others are great bargains and targeted towards the modding community, while some are cheap both in price and materials. Today we look at the Raidmax Skyline and decide which of these categories it falls into.

Coolermaster USP100 Case Review @ High Tech Reviews

Posted by Nathan @ 3:28 PM (EST)

It is our pleasure to review one of the newest cases from Coolermaster's growing selection. The USP100 is a mid-tower case that not only offer great cooling but enough room for three optical drives and seven hard drives, not bad for a mid-tower case.

Kingston 30GB SSDNow V Series Boot Drive Review @ Legit Reviews

Posted by Nathan @ 3:27 PM (EST)

The idea of an SSD boot drive like the Kingston 30GB V Series drive works well of a lot of users who just can't dump a load of money into a drive but would really like to get rid of the HDD bottleneck in their system. Performance for this drive was right on with the expectations set by Kingston. The unfortunate part of that is the write speed, which at 50MB/s, falls below hard drive speed and frankly, is disappointing. There were some benchmarks that did show writes exceeding this but they still barely rival most platter drives. While you'll still see a nice performance boost by upgrading from an HDD in Windows and application loading, there are going to be some aspects of your daily use that you may see no change or even a loss in performance due to the writes. Such is life when you are only paying $110 (or $80 for the launch special) for a low capacity SSD...

Kingston SSDNow V Series 30GB Boot Drive @ TestFreaks

Posted by Nathan @ 3:27 PM (EST)

Today for review I’ve got that new version but it’s only a 30gb drive as opposed to the original 40gb capacity. So we’ve gained TRIM support but lost 10gb in the process?! I’ve decided to compare it to that original 40gb drive and even a couple others I’ve got on hand. From my testing it is faster than the original that came out last year, which is a good thing, but it still lacks fast write speeds. The write speeds though are not supposed to be off the charts fast, it’s meant to be a boot drive which means you boot your OS from it and use it for reading from mainly, it’s meant to be paired with a standard mechanical hard drive where you would keep your programs and use that for writing to. For the price it’s well worth it for those that want the speed of an SSD but don’t really want to or have the cash to pay for a ‘regular’ SSD drive. So read on…

Toshiba Satellite E205-S1904 Laptop Review @ HotHardware.com

Posted by Nathan @ 3:26 PM (EST)

If you could design your own laptop in an effort to have the perfect balance of performance, price, size, weight, and features, what would you include and what could you live without? As part of its Blue Label program, Best Buy asked that question of its customers--accepting as much feedback as its customers could give and then channeling that information back to the laptop manufacturers it partners with. The ensuing results of this feedback now manifest themselves in the three current Best Buy Blue Label exclusive laptop offerings: the Dell Studio s15Z-2249CPN, Sony Vaio VPCS11FM/S, and Toshiba Satellite E205-S1904.

PowerColor Radeon HD 5870 PCS+ Review @ OCC

Posted by Nathan @ 3:25 PM (EST)

In all of the benchmark testing, the PowerColor HD 5870 PCS+ did great! Usually in the top two, it got first place many times as well thanks to the factory overclock. The massive quad heat-piped heat sink also kept the core and card running cool under load even when overclocked. The graphics card easily clocked to 950 MHz core and 1320 MHz memory. After that, 100% stability was not possible, although in some games I was able to play for hours up with the settings at 1000 MHz on the core and 1400 MHz memory - a small voltage bump and this card could reach high frequencies!

Gigabyte KM7580: Keyboard and Mouse Combo @ Bjorn3D

Posted by Nathan @ 3:24 PM (EST)

Gigabyte is not often being associated with keyboard and mouse. When mentioning Gigabyte and computer, I am sure everyone would think of motherboard or graphic cards instead of keyboard and mouse. The reality is Gigabyte is a big company and it has a wide variety of computer products ranging from keyboard, mouse, monitors, to cases and laptops.

Kingston SSDNow V Series 30GB Boot Drive Review @ HardwareLogic

Posted by Nathan @ 3:24 PM (EST)

Why would Kingston be coming out with a 30GB SSD boot drive if they already have a 40GB for sale? Without providing TRIM or garbage collection, Kingston scrapped the product and wanted to produce something the community was asking for. The 30GB boot drive was born with a new controller and slightly better specs.
